Ukraine’s military drone capability is not one program or one manufacturer. It is a wartime industrial network: companies build expendable FPV aircraft, long-range strike UAVs, reconnaissance platforms, interceptors, motors and specialized control systems. That division matters because drones face different battlefield problems—and because an airframe is useful only if its sensors, links and components can be supplied and replaced.
What Ukraine’s military drone industry includes
“Drone” covers systems with very different roles. Short-range FPV aircraft attack tactical targets; one-way attack UAVs are built to strike farther away; reconnaissance aircraft find and track targets, support artillery and assess results. Interceptors hunt hostile UAVs. Fiber-optic-controlled systems use a physical cable for the command link rather than relying on radio. Behind these aircraft are suppliers of motors, cameras, batteries, electronics, datalinks and other parts.
The companies commonly named in accounts of Ukraine’s drone sector therefore are not all direct competitors. Some make complete aircraft, while others supply components or a specific technology. A company’s public product list establishes what it says it offers; it does not by itself verify production volume, battlefield performance or the origin of every part.
Six companies and their different roles
| Company | Role | Representative system or product |
|---|---|---|
| Fire Point | Long-range and front-line strike UAVs | FP-1 and FP-2 |
| Ukrspecsystems | Reconnaissance, surveillance and targeting | PD-2 and SHARK family |
| Skyeton | Long-endurance reconnaissance | Raybird, also identified by the company as ACS-3 |
| Wild Hornets | Tactical FPV drones and interception | FPV systems and Sting |
| Motor-G | Drone components | Electric motors, according to a secondary account |
| 3DTech | Fiber-optic control systems | Fiber-optic drones and cable spools, according to a secondary account |
Fire Point: strike systems
Fire Point’s current site lists FP-1 and FP-2 UAV systems and also lists missile systems, so its business extends beyond drones. The company describes FP-1 as a deep-strike modification and FP-2 as a front-strike modification. It says its development and manufacturing cycle incorporates combat feedback. These are company descriptions; the public material cited here does not establish current output, unit cost, payload or a precise range. Fire Point’s company overview

Ukrspecsystems: reconnaissance and targeting
Ukrspecsystems’ portfolio includes PD-2, SHARK-D, SHARK-M and Mini Shark. Its Ukrainian-language PD-2 page describes the aircraft as used by Ukraine’s armed forces and lists more than eight hours of endurance, more than 180 kilometers of communications range and a 55-kilogram maximum takeoff mass. These are manufacturer specifications; performance can depend on configuration. The communications figure is not the same as flight range or operational radius. PD-2 and UAV specifications Current product portfolio
The company presents the SHARK family as a multifunctional ISR platform and says SHARK-D is in active service with Ukraine’s armed forces. Its product page emphasizes stabilized electro-optical equipment, automated launch equipment and information-sharing features. SHARK-D product page
Reconnaissance aircraft matter because they can locate targets, track movement, help correct artillery fire and assess the outcome of a strike. Counting only attack drones misses the surveillance and targeting layer that helps other weapons work.

Skyeton: persistent surveillance
Skyeton’s fixed-wing Raybird is designed for long-duration reconnaissance. The company advertises more than 28 hours of endurance, a 2,500-kilometer maximum flight range, more than 200 kilometers of datalink range and more than 350,000 hours of combat missions. These are manufacturer-published figures, not independently audited measurements. “Maximum flight range” should not be read as an operational radius: the company’s page does not make that equivalence, and range, endurance and datalink distance describe different limits. Skyeton specifications and claims
Skyeton says Raybird was adopted by Ukraine’s armed forces as the ACS-3. Its company page also describes a workforce of more than 500 people, including over 100 engineers. Both adoption and workforce figures are company statements. Skyeton company information
Long-endurance aircraft offer persistent coverage, but they are more complex than simple FPV drones and need suitable launch, recovery, communications and maintenance support. Their role is surveillance and operational reconnaissance, not simply a larger version of a one-way attack drone.
Wild Hornets: tactical drones and interception
Wild Hornets describes itself as a Ukrainian miltech company focused on combat drones. It highlights FPV strike aircraft and Sting, an interceptor intended to counter Shahed-type attack drones, as well as collaboration with Ukrainian military units. The company’s descriptions and battlefield-effectiveness claims are not independent assessments. Wild Hornets Company profile and Sting

An interceptor can add a flexible response to hostile UAVs, but it depends on detection and cueing, and on conditions such as weather, visibility, speed and altitude. It must still reach its target; it does not make air defense automatic or guarantee a cheaper outcome in every engagement. Company-published destruction totals should be treated as claims unless independently corroborated.
Motor-G: the component layer
A December 2025 SlashGear account identifies Motor-G as a Ukrainian drone-motor maker and reports output of 100,000 motors per month. The article provides no primary source or methodology for that figure, so it should not be treated as a verified current production rate. It is also unclear whether the number refers to actual output, capacity or a target, or which motor types it covers. SlashGear’s December 19, 2025 overview
Motor production illustrates why localization is more than building an airframe. Motors can be a bottleneck, but the motor alone depends on inputs such as magnets, copper, bearings and controllers. A local supplier can reduce one point of exposure without proving that the full supply chain is domestic.
3DTech: a cable-based control link
The same SlashGear account attributes fiber-optic-controlled drones and 3D-printed cable spools to 3DTech. Fiber-optic control can bypass radio-frequency jamming or spoofing of the command link because commands travel through a cable rather than a conventional radio connection. That does not make the aircraft invulnerable: cable adds weight, limits the route and length of travel, and can snag, break or run out. The drone remains exposed to physical interception and other defenses. SlashGear’s account of 3DTech

Why the systems are not interchangeable
The best comparison is mission fit, not a single ranking. An inexpensive FPV drone is expendable and suited to tactical attacks; a long-range UAV is built for a different target set and logistics burden. An ISR aircraft may carry no strike payload at all, yet help find targets and direct other weapons. A persistent aircraft trades simplicity for time aloft, while a fiber-optic link trades freedom of movement for reduced dependence on radio control.
- Scale and attrition: Drones are lost to electronic warfare, air defenses, small-arms fire, crashes and weather. A system’s usefulness depends partly on whether it can be replaced.
- Survivability: Radio-link resilience, navigation, signature, altitude and recovery arrangements affect whether a platform can complete its mission.
- Cost and complexity: A simpler aircraft may be easier to replace; a more capable platform may provide endurance, sensors or reach that a small FPV system cannot.
- Feedback speed: Ukrainian firms operating close to users can adapt designs to changing countermeasures. Fire Point explicitly describes combat feedback as part of its development model.
Russia’s electronic warfare and counter-drone measures help explain why the ecosystem needs multiple approaches rather than a single universal aircraft. No one design eliminates the need for other types, and advertised specifications do not alone establish survivability under combat conditions.

Domestic production can mean several different things: a system is designed in Ukraine, assembled there, integrated and maintained there, or built with locally made components. These are not interchangeable claims. A locally designed aircraft may still depend on imported cameras, batteries, radios, flight controllers, semiconductors or composite materials.
SlashGear reported that Ukraine had approximately 500 drone companies, produced more than four million drones in 2025, and that only about 5% of Ukrainian drone companies avoided Chinese components. The article does not provide a methodology for these figures or clarify the boundaries used for company counts and production totals. They should be treated as attributed claims, not settled measures of the industry. SlashGear’s December 2025 account

Reducing dependence on foreign parts is a resilience goal, not evidence that dependence has ended. Building local capacity for a critical component can reduce exposure to export restrictions, shipping interruptions and shortages, while leaving other imported inputs as constraints.
How international partnerships fit in
Domestic companies are also entering wider European defense-industrial networks. Skyeton announced a UK joint venture with Prevail Solutions. Such partnerships can offer access to capital, production capacity, certification and allied markets, while also bringing export controls, security requirements and more complex procurement processes. The announcement demonstrates a partnership, not by itself a measure of resulting production or sales. Skyeton–Prevail Solutions announcement
How to read the public numbers
Public claims about drone output and performance need careful interpretation. Company pages are useful for identifying products and understanding how manufacturers position them, but are not independent combat evaluations. Secondary reports can document a claim at a particular date without proving that it remains current.
- Endurance depends on payload, weather, flight profile and configuration.
- “Range” can mean flight distance, operational radius or communications distance; these figures are not substitutes for one another.
- Production figures may refer to actual output, capacity or an announced target. The cited public accounts do not establish those definitions for Motor-G’s reported monthly number.
- Claims about destroyed equipment or combat hours should be attributed to the company unless independently verified.
- Exact production, deployment and procurement details may be withheld for operational security; limited public information is not proof that a supplier is unimportant.
