Theom announced on September 13, 2022, that it had emerged from stealth with an oversubscribed $16.4 million seed round. Ridge Ventures led the financing, and M12, Microsoft’s venture fund, participated. The company said it would use the funding to expand product coverage and customer use cases, and to grow its go-to-market efforts.
What Theom announced in 2022
Founded in late 2020, Theom presented the financing as the launch of a cloud data security company built around a question its co-founder and CEO, Navindra Yadav, said inspired the team: “Is my data really secure?” The company described its goal as making security controls follow data as it is stored, replicated, or accessed in cloud environments.

The $16.4 million figure comes from Theom’s September 13, 2022 announcement; contemporary coverage often rounded it to $16 million. Ridge Ventures led the seed round, with M12 participating, and Theom described the round as oversubscribed. The company said the money would fund broader data-store technology coverage, support more customer use cases, and expand go-to-market activity. Those were announced plans, not verified spending results. Theom’s 2022 seed announcement

What problem Theom said it was addressing
Theom’s launch-era pitch was that securing a cloud data store requires more than knowing where data sits. The company said its product examined who accessed data, including access by vendors, looked for abnormal activity, and prioritized risks across data stores. It also said it could connect with customers’ existing SIEM and SOAR tools to support remediation.

That description explains the product thesis, but it is Theom’s own account of its capabilities—not independent testing or proof of security effectiveness. The company’s framing was that controls should remain relevant as data moves or is accessed across cloud services, rather than being tied only to a static storage location.
How the company’s story developed
2023: Microsoft Sentinel integration
In April 2023, Theom announced an integration with Microsoft Sentinel and said it had joined the Microsoft Intelligent Security Association (MISA). The company described the integration as a way to bring threat intelligence from data clouds and lakehouses into detection and incident-response workflows. Its announcement characterized the product as agentless and no-proxy, operating inside data clouds and lakehouses, and said it used the MITRE ATT&CK framework. These are company-reported product and integration claims. The April 2023 Microsoft Sentinel announcement
2025: Series A financing
The 2022 seed round is an earlier chapter, not Theom’s latest reported funding event. In 2025, the company announced a $20 million Series A led by Wing Ventures, with strategic participation from Databricks Ventures, Snowflake Ventures, and SentinelOne’s S Ventures. The announcement also included company-reported claims about customer outcomes; those figures are not independently substantiated by the cited announcement. Theom’s 2025 Series A announcement

The announcement documents an early financing event and the company’s stated product direction: follow data and its access context across cloud environments, then connect risk detection to security workflows. It does not establish that the product independently prevented breaches, that planned funding uses were completed, or that company-reported performance claims were validated by an outside evaluator. For readers assessing the company, the distinction between a financing announcement, a vendor’s product description, and independently verified results matters.
