The highest documented price in the official auction records covered here is $30,204 per kilogram for a 20-kilogram lot of Hacienda La Esmeralda washed Geisha sold at Panama’s 2025 Best of Panama auction. The latest auction reported here, in 2026, had a different leader: Elida Geisha Torre at $18,004 per kilogram. These are prices for finite lots of green coffee sold at auction—not ordinary prices for a retail bag or café drink.

This ranking compares reported public auction prices per kilogram of green coffee at the official Best of Panama auctions in 2025 and 2026. It is not a comprehensive list of every expensive coffee worldwide, nor a comparison of retail bags, café servings, private sales, or unverified claims. The ranking follows documented auction prices; it does not rank coffees by taste.
“Geisha” and “Gesha” are both common spellings. The entries below identify the producer, lot, process when reported, auction year, and price basis so that unlike products are not mistaken for direct retail comparisons.

The 2025 top sale is the strongest verified headline figure in the official sources covered here: the Specialty Coffee Association of Panama (SCAP) reported the lot and price, and Panama’s Tourism Authority independently reported the same amount and 20-kilogram size. What the 2026 Best of Panama auction shows
SCAP reported that the 2026 auction sold 50 lots of 15 kilograms each—40 Geisha lots and 10 varietal lots—for $3,041,940 in total. All 40 Geisha lots exceeded $1,500 per kilogram, while five lots topped $10,000 per kilogram; all five were Geishas. Hacienda La Esmeralda’s varietal lots ranged from $897 to $4,216 per kilogram. Those figures describe the auction’s finite lots, not the prices shoppers should expect for packaged coffee.
The 2026 results also illustrate why a single record price does not describe an entire event: Elida Geisha Torre led at $18,004 per kilogram, while other named lots sold at lower prices. SCAP’s results are available at the 2026 Best of Panama report.

Why auction prices are not retail prices
An auction price is the winning bid for a particular lot of green coffee, with a defined quantity and provenance. It is not the listed price of roasted beans in a shop, and it cannot be translated directly into the cost of a cup. Roasting, packaging, distribution, retail margins, and the amount sold all differ from an auction lot. The sources here do not establish comparable current retail prices for these coffees or for other premium varieties, so a global retail-price ranking would require a different evidence base.
A separate Hacienda La Esmeralda producer announcement reports a private electronic sale at $7,532 per kilogram to George Howell Coffee Company. That is a different transaction from the public Best of Panama record and should not be substituted for it: Hacienda La Esmeralda’s auction announcement.

Is Geisha coffee worth the price?
The auction record establishes what buyers bid for one identified lot; it does not establish that every drinker will prefer its taste, or that a retail bag with a Geisha label has the same provenance. A high price is not, by itself, proof of a better personal experience. If you are considering a purchase, compare the coffee and its traceability rather than treating the record price as a recommended budget.
What to verify before buying beans
- Farm and lot identity, including whether it is the specific auction lot or a different coffee from the same producer.
- Harvest and processing method, such as washed or natural.
- Whether the product is green or roasted, the quantity in the package, and the roast date.
- The total price you will pay, not an auction price per kilogram presented without context.
“Panama Geisha coffee beans” can help locate retail offerings, but it does not mean the record-setting green lot is available at a comparable per-kilogram price. Confirm the seller’s claims about the specific coffee before buying.
