There is no current published ranking that combines buying a car and servicing it into one overall top 10. This curated comparison brings together brands supported by J.D. Power’s latest located U.S. dealer-service study (2026) and sales-satisfaction evidence (2025, with additional 2024 context). The studies measure different experiences, so the brands below are not presented in a mathematically derived order.
How to read this top 10
J.D. Power’s 2026 U.S. Customer Service Index (CSI) measures satisfaction with dealer service among owners and lessees of one- to three-year-old vehicles. It included 51,228 verified registered owners and lessees and was fielded from January through December 2025. Its overall dealer-service satisfaction score was 868, three points higher than the previous year. The study covers both franchised-dealer and aftermarket visits, so it is evidence about service satisfaction—not vehicle quality or the car-buying process. J.D. Power’s 2026 CSI results.
The sales evidence is separate. J.D. Power’s 2025 U.S. Sales Satisfaction Index (SSI) chart gives mass-market rankings, while the latest located official SSI release with buyer-factor details is from 2024. The 2024 study surveyed 34,596 buyers who bought or leased from March through May 2024; the survey was fielded July through September. Do not compare a sales score directly with a service score or treat close scores as meaningfully different without statistical evidence. J.D. Power’s 2025 SSI chart explicitly says numerical rankings do not necessarily imply statistical significance.
The ten brands below are a curated comparison, not an official combined ranking. The service ranks are stated within their premium or mass-market category; sales results are identified by study year and category. Some brands are included for service evidence, some for sales evidence, and some for both.

The 10 car brands to consider for dealership experience
1. Porsche — premium dealer service leader
Porsche ranked first among premium brands in J.D. Power’s 2026 CSI, with 915 points. That is a service-satisfaction result, not a 2026 sales ranking. In the 2024 SSI, Porsche also led premium-brand purchase satisfaction with 851 points, but that older sales result should not be mistaken for a current sales rank. The pairing makes Porsche a notable option for shoppers weighing both sides of the dealership relationship, while the years and measures remain distinct.
2. Infiniti — strong service results, including premium SUVs
Infiniti ranked second among premium brands in the 2026 CSI, at 912 points, and led the premium SUV service segment at 911. In the 2024 SSI, it ranked second among premium brands for sales satisfaction, at 840 points. Those are separate study results; they do not establish a combined score.
3. Lexus — among the premium service leaders
Lexus placed third among premium brands in the 2026 CSI, scoring 900 points. That supports its inclusion for dealer service. The evidence cited here does not establish a corresponding current sales-satisfaction rank for Lexus, so shoppers should assess the local sales process independently.

MINI led mass-market brands in the 2026 CSI, with 887 points. It also scored 820 in the 2025 SSI mass-market chart, tied with GMC at that score. The service result is the stronger reason for its inclusion; the sales chart provides a separate snapshot of the purchase experience.
5. Subaru — strong in service and sales evidence
Subaru ranked second among mass-market brands in the 2026 CSI, at 886 points, and led the mass-market SUV/minivan service segment with 887. It placed second in the 2025 SSI mass-market chart at 823 points. Its service leadership is especially relevant to SUV and minivan shoppers, though a segment result still cannot predict an individual dealership visit.
6. Buick — near the top of the mass-market sales chart
Buick ranked third among mass-market brands in the 2025 SSI, scoring 827. It was also third in the 2026 CSI mass-market service ranking, at 882. Buick therefore appears near the top in both studies, but the sales and service points measure different things and should not be added or averaged.

7. Mazda — service standout among mass-market cars
Mazda led the mass-market car service segment in the 2026 CSI, at 884 points. It scored 815 in the 2025 SSI mass-market chart. The service segment result is the clearest reason to consider Mazda here, particularly if you are shopping a car rather than an SUV or truck.
8. Ford — truck-service segment leader
Ford led the truck service segment in the 2026 CSI, scoring 869. This is a segment-specific service result, not an overall mass-market service rank or a sales-satisfaction result. For truck buyers, it is useful evidence to weigh alongside local service capacity, appointment availability, and repair follow-through.

Chevrolet scored 821 in the 2025 SSI mass-market chart, placing third. The evidence cited here supports its inclusion for the purchase experience; it does not establish a matching top service rank in the 2026 CSI. Evaluate the dealership you would actually use for both buying and maintenance.

10. GMC — a strong 2025 sales-chart showing
GMC scored 820 in the 2025 SSI mass-market chart, tied with MINI on points. J.D. Power cautions that numerical positions do not necessarily imply statistically significant differences, so the one-point distinction between GMC and Chevrolet should not be treated as proof of a meaningfully better purchase experience.

The buying process
J.D. Power’s 2024 SSI evaluates delivery, dealer personnel, working out the deal, paperwork, the dealership facility, and the dealership website. It also includes people who shopped at a dealership but bought elsewhere, making the study broader than a survey of completed purchases alone. For a shopper, that means responsiveness and clarity during the process matter alongside the final handover.
Service after the sale
The 2026 CSI gives the greatest weight to service quality, followed by vehicle pick-up, the service advisor, the service facility, and service initiation. The study reported 979 points when all 10 top service KPIs were met, compared with 632 when only three were met. That is an association within the study, not a guarantee of an individual customer’s result. J.D. Power also reported that 12% of repairs in its 2025 CSI were not completed correctly on the first visit; among those customers, only 50% said they returned or planned to return to the dealership.

Service needs vary by vehicle type. In the 2026 CSI, Mazda led mass-market cars, Subaru led mass-market SUVs/minivans, Infiniti and Porsche tied for premium cars at 921, Infiniti led premium SUVs, and Ford led trucks. The 2025 CSI also found EV service satisfaction lagging ICE service satisfaction. Choose evidence relevant to the vehicle and powertrain you expect to own, rather than assuming one brand result applies equally across every model and repair.
How to compare dealerships near you
A brand-level study result is a useful starting point, not a promise about a particular store. Before choosing a dealership, compare the locations you can realistically visit and ask for specifics in writing.
- For a purchase: request itemized out-the-door pricing, check whether quoted terms and fees are clear, and note how promptly staff answer questions about the vehicle and delivery.
- For service: compare appointment lead times, the process for approving additional work, how the advisor provides updates, and what happens if a repair does not resolve the problem.
- For your vehicle type: check whether the nearby service department handles your model and powertrain, and whether it has the capacity or expertise your expected maintenance requires.
- Across locations: compare more than one store when possible. A highly rated brand may have meaningful differences in communication, convenience, and follow-through from one local dealership to another.
Use the study year beside each result when making comparisons: the newest sales chart cited here is 2025, while the newest service study is 2026. The studies use different samples, questions, and measures; they are not a common scale.
