The Simpsons’ Six Principal Voice Actors, Ranked by Published Net-Worth Estimates

Audacy’s published estimates put Hank Azaria highest among The Simpsons’ six principal voice actors, but the figures are unverified and other rankings differ.

There is no verified financial ranking of the principal Simpsons voice cast. Celebrity-wealth estimates are not audited disclosures, and published lists disagree. Using the figures reported by Audacy, Hank Azaria is listed highest at $90 million, four performers are tied at $85 million, and Nancy Cartwright is listed at $80 million. These estimates concern performers’ overall wealth—not proven earnings from the show.

Published estimates, from highest to lowest

The comparison below follows the amounts in Audacy’s ranking, which attributes its estimates to CelebrityNetWorth, TheThings, and TheRichest. The inspected Audacy page’s publication date was not established, so these figures should be read as estimates reported by that outlet, not as current or independently verified totals.

Performer Published estimate Position in this comparison
Hank Azaria $90 million (Audacy; publication date not established) Highest listed estimate
Harry Shearer $85 million (Audacy; publication date not established) Tied
Julie Kavner $85 million (Audacy; publication date not established) Tied
Dan Castellaneta $85 million (Audacy; publication date not established) Tied
Yeardley Smith $85 million (Audacy; publication date not established) Tied
Nancy Cartwright $80 million (Audacy; publication date not established) Lowest listed estimate

The four performers at $85 million share one tier; the figures do not support a meaningful ordering among them. Nor does the $5 million difference between adjacent amounts establish a reliable difference in actual wealth.

Why other rankings show different numbers

These are not figures derived from a disclosed, consistent accounting method. A newer Startefacts ranking gives Hank Azaria a range of roughly $90–120 million and Julie Kavner roughly $90–100 million, while putting Dan Castellaneta and Yeardley Smith at about $85 million. Just Jared’s August 10, 2024 ranking also estimates Castellaneta at $85 million. Those reports provide comparison points, not a way to settle which estimate is correct.

No source in these rankings supplies an independently verified calculation of each actor’s assets and liabilities or a transparent methodology for its estimate. The lists also do not establish how much of any performer’s wealth came from The Simpsons, rather than other acting, producing, writing, or business work. Treat the numbers as published estimates of overall net worth, not as a ledger of the show’s pay.

Who counts as a major Simpsons voice actor?

Here, “major” means the six principal performers: Dan Castellaneta, Julie Kavner, Nancy Cartwright, Yeardley Smith, Hank Azaria, and Harry Shearer. They voice the central family and many other residents of Springfield. The Television Academy’s interview archive includes interviews with the performers, but it is not a record of their finances.

The roles also illustrate why voice-cast headcounts can be misleading. In its report on the show’s 800th episode, the Associated Press recounts that Cartwright initially wanted to audition for Lisa, then asked to voice Bart. The AP quotes creator Matt Groening saying she “completely channeled him.” Cartwright has also said that some viewers still do not know Bart is voiced by a woman. That casting history is useful context for the cast, but it says nothing about the performers’ wealth.

Net worth is not the same as Simpsons salary

A net-worth estimate attempts to describe a person’s overall financial position; an episode-rate claim describes compensation for a particular job and period. Neither can be substituted for the other. Startefacts repeats a claimed peak rate of $400,000 per episode, citing CelebrityNetWorth. That is secondary reporting about a purported peak, not proof of present pay or a rate paid in every episode or season.

For historical context only, The Simpsons Archive reproduced a 2001 report attributed to Variety stating that the cast received $100,000 per episode for seasons 13 and 14, with a reported $125,000-per-episode guarantee for season 15. Those are historical trade-report figures, not current salary disclosures. No authoritative source here establishes the performers’ current per-episode pay.
