In a list published on October 29, 2023, Motive Talk ranked Valentino Rossi first, Marc Márquez second, and Jorge Lorenzo third among the richest MotoGP riders. Those positions reflect one publisher’s estimates—not an authoritative or audited ranking—and the article even gives two different figures for Rossi. The available numbers are best read as claims made by particular sources, not verified measures of the riders’ wealth.
Who did the 2023 list rank as the richest MotoGP riders?
Motive Talk’s October 2023 list put three riders at the top:
| Rank in Motive Talk’s list | Rider | Amount reported |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Valentino Rossi | The heading says $210 million; the article body estimates $200 million. |
| 2 | Marc Márquez | $35 million |
| 3 | Jorge Lorenzo | $30 million |
These are estimates presented by Motive Talk, not figures confirmed by financial disclosures. Its Rossi discrepancy cannot be resolved from the article: neither amount should be repeated as an established fact. Motive Talk does not provide a transparent methodology or primary financial documentation for the estimates. Motive Talk’s November 2023 list
Why published net-worth estimates differ
A net-worth estimate concerns accumulated assets minus liabilities. It is not the same thing as a rider’s salary in a particular season. Public lists may attempt to account for racing contracts, endorsements, businesses, investments, and other assets, but the sources here do not show comparable, audited calculations across those categories.
A separate ranking attributed to Sportingfree and reproduced by Katadata in March 2022 listed Valentino Rossi at US$135 million, Marc Márquez at US$35 million, and Jorge Lorenzo at US$30 million. It was described as a 2021 ranking, so its figures should not be treated as a fresh 2022 or 2023 valuation. Katadata also identifies its English-language article as an AI-generated translation. This secondary reproduction shows that estimates vary by publisher and date; it does not verify the underlying amounts. Katadata’s 2022 article reproducing the ranking
What MotoGP salary estimates can—and cannot—tell you
Autosport reported estimates for rider pay in 2022, a more specific measure than net worth. It put the combined pay for the 24-rider grid at €47,150,000, or about €1.96 million per rider on average. The publication compared that total with €58.5 million three years earlier and described the 2022 figure as 19.45% lower. These are reported salary estimates, not a tally of rider wealth, and they are tied to the seasons in Autosport’s report rather than current pay. Autosport’s 2022 salary reporting

Top salary estimates in Autosport’s 2022 report
| Rider | Estimated 2022 pay | Qualification |
|---|---|---|
| Marc Márquez | €15 million | Before prize money, according to Autosport’s estimate |
| Joan Mir | €6.5 million | Salary estimate reported by Autosport |
| Fabio Quartararo | €4 million | Salary estimate reported by Autosport |
The salary figures illustrate how pay can be concentrated among leading riders, but they cannot establish who has the greatest total wealth. A salary estimate does not reveal a rider’s accumulated assets, debts, endorsement income, business interests, taxes, spending, or investment results. Nor should a 2022 salary figure be presented as a current contract amount.

How to read a MotoGP wealth ranking
- Check the date. Treat each amount as an estimate tied to the publication date or ranking period, not as a live balance sheet.
- Identify what is being measured. Annual salary, prize money, endorsements, and net worth are different measures; a source that reports one does not establish the others.
- Look for a method and documentation. Without transparent calculations or primary financial records, a ranking is a publisher’s estimate rather than a verified comparison.
- Keep each source’s claim attached to its source. The 2021 list reproduced by Katadata and the 2023 Motive Talk list are not interchangeable valuations, and neither confirms the other.
