Yes. The FDA determined on February 21, 2025, that the U.S. shortage of semaglutide injection products, including Ozempic, was resolved. The agency said the manufacturer’s reported availability and manufacturing capacity could meet present and projected nationwide demand. That does not guarantee that every pharmacy has every dose in stock: limited, intermittent local disruptions may still occur as medicine moves through the supply chain.

What the FDA’s shortage decision means

The FDA’s determination is about nationwide supply, not the inventory of an individual pharmacy. Under the agency’s standard, a shortage is resolved when supply is no longer exceeded by demand or projected demand. FDA said it confirmed with the manufacturer that availability and manufacturing capacity could meet current and projected national demand. FDA’s February 21, 2025 update cautioned that limited, intermittent disruptions could continue locally while products move from the manufacturer through distributors to pharmacies.

The shortage history reflects the broader semaglutide injection supply picture: FDA listed Wegovy injection in March 2022 and Ozempic injection in August 2022, then determined the shortage resolved on February 21, 2025. FDA’s drug shortage records track these status changes.

What to do if your pharmacy cannot fill Ozempic

A national shortage resolution does not tell you whether a particular pharmacy has your prescribed dose available today. If you cannot fill your prescription, ask the pharmacy about local availability and contact your prescriber about appropriate next steps. Do not change your dose, stop treatment, or substitute another product without guidance from your healthcare professional.

How the decision affects compounded semaglutide

The resolution also ended the general shortage-based rationale for compounding essentially-copy semaglutide products, subject to FDA’s limited transition periods and applicable statutory requirements. In its February 21, 2025 update, FDA said it did not intend to take action for certain violations tied to shortage-list status through April 22, 2025, for state-licensed pharmacies and physicians operating under section 503A, and through May 22, 2025, for outsourcing facilities under section 503B. Those dates were temporary enforcement-discretion periods, not ongoing authorization.

FDA’s framework, described in its page updated April 1, 2026, sets distinct statutory conditions for compounding. Under section 503A, these include an individual-patient prescription and limits on regularly making products that are essentially copies of approved drugs. Section 503B facilities generally may use bulk drug substances only under specified conditions, including when the drug is on FDA’s shortage list at the relevant time or the substance appears on the applicable bulks list. FDA stated in that update that semaglutide was not on the 503B bulks list or the FDA drug shortage list. Compounded drugs are not FDA-approved, and they should not be assumed to be interchangeable with approved Ozempic.
