Adding a new payment option may help a business reach customers who want to pay that way—but there is no independent evidence here that adding “eCash” itself causes sales growth. The term can refer to different systems. This article uses it narrowly for the public e.cash network, which uses XEC; it is not a guide to every cryptocurrency or to Syria-focused services using the ecash-pay.com name. For merchants, the case for testing XEC at checkout depends on actual customer demand, the integration’s costs and risks, and results from a measured pilot.
What does “eCash” mean at checkout?
“eCash” is not a single, universally defined payment product. The official e.cash site describes a public network using XEC and lists PayButton among its tools. That identifies the network and a related checkout tool, but it does not establish that every ecommerce gateway supports XEC, or that a particular merchant integration offers specific fees, settlement times, refund protections, or compliance arrangements.
A separate search result uses the ecash-pay.com name for a Syria-focused payment gateway. That service is not shown to be the same as the XEC network, and its claims are not independently verified here. Cashu-style ecash and locally issued electronic-money balances are also distinct concepts. Before evaluating any option, establish exactly what the customer pays with, who processes the payment, and what the merchant receives.
Why merchants are considering crypto checkout
A 2026 PayPal and National Cryptocurrency Association release reports that 39% of surveyed US merchants already accepted cryptocurrency at checkout. The online Harris Poll survey was conducted October 21–27, 2025, among 619 US payment-strategy decision makers. The release reports a sampling precision of ±3.9 percentage points at a 95% confidence level. These are survey findings—not a census of merchants or evidence that crypto acceptance caused growth.

The same survey found that 88% of respondents said they had received customer inquiries about paying with crypto, while 69% said customers wanted to use it at least monthly. Those reports suggest that customer interest exists among some surveyed businesses; they do not establish demand in every country, sector, or merchant’s customer base.
Asked about possible benefits, 79% agreed that accepting crypto could help attract new customers, and 84% believed crypto payments would become common within five years. These figures describe merchants’ beliefs, not measured customer acquisition or a forecast proven by observed outcomes. PayPal’s Vice President and General Manager of Crypto, May Zabaneh, said in the release: “When crypto payments are offered in ways that feel as familiar as cards or online payments, they become a powerful growth tool, helping businesses reach new customers and access funds more quickly.” That is a vendor executive’s view, not independent causal evidence.

Growth is a hypothesis to test, not a guaranteed result
The available evidence supports a practical question—whether customers at a particular business want a particular payment option—not a promise that adding eCash will increase revenue. The survey is about cryptocurrency acceptance generally; it does not isolate XEC or establish an eCash-specific sales lift. Interest, completed purchases, new-customer acquisition, and profitable growth are different outcomes.
Ease of setup may matter to merchants considering crypto. In the same release, 90% said they would be likely to accept crypto if setup were as simple as accepting credit cards; a separate 90% finding concerned willingness to try acceptance if the experience matched traditional card acceptance. These survey responses show the importance respondents placed on familiarity and simplicity. They do not verify that any particular XEC tool or gateway is as easy to install as card processing.

Payment habits also vary by market. In the European Central Bank’s 2024 SPACE results, cards remained the most popular payment method in the euro area, while digital payment use increased more slowly and most consumers considered the option to pay with cash important. The ECB surveyed 50,000 euro-area consumers, with data collected in September–November 2023 and April–June 2024. A July 2026 BIS Bulletin says retail payments have digitalised rapidly, but incumbent banks and card networks retain dominant positions in key markets. Neither source establishes local demand for XEC; both underline why a new method should complement, rather than automatically replace, the options customers already use.
What to check before choosing an eCash integration
Compare the actual service and its terms, not just the label “eCash.” Ask the provider for written answers to these questions before enabling payments:
Rank #4
- User-friendly interface with fast 58mm thermal printing and starter roll included
- 4200 price lookups and 50 departments for organized product management
- Dual displays: LCD operator screen and 8-digit customer display
- Comprehensive reporting, including financial, PLU, hourly, and refund reports
- Serial and USB ports for barcode scanner, kitchen printer, scale, and PC connection
- Asset and protocol: Does the customer pay in XEC, another cryptocurrency, or a locally issued electronic-money balance? Do not assume these options are interchangeable.
- Market demand: Do customers in the business’s actual sales regions request this specific method, and can the checkout explain it clearly?
- Platform and setup: Is there a supported integration for the existing ecommerce platform? What configuration, testing, maintenance, and customer support will it require?
- Settlement: What asset does the merchant receive, when is it available, and how is it redeemed or converted if the merchant needs local currency?
- Fees and price exposure: What charges apply at each stage, and who bears any exchange-rate movement between payment and settlement?
- Refunds and disputes: How are refunds initiated and delivered? What happens when a transaction is sent incorrectly or a customer contests a purchase?
- Custody and keys: Who controls the funds and credentials, and what recovery and security processes apply?
- Compliance: Which legal, tax, reporting, and identity-check requirements apply to the merchant and its customers in each operating market?
The e.cash site makes claims about network features, but network-level claims do not prove that a merchant’s chosen integration will deliver lower fees, instant finality, worldwide reach, greater privacy, or fewer chargebacks. Those outcomes depend on the product, provider, transaction, and jurisdiction. Confirm them directly rather than treating them as inherent benefits of the word “eCash.”

- Instrument the new method. Track how often customers see and select it, how many complete payment, and whether they are new or returning customers. Protect customer data and apply the business’s normal privacy practices.
- Reconcile costs and outcomes. Include provider charges, conversion or redemption costs, exchange-rate exposure, refunds, failed or unresolved payments, and staff time—not just the displayed transaction fee.
- Set a decision rule in advance. Decide what level of completed purchases, operational reliability, and net contribution would justify keeping or expanding the option. Stop or revise the pilot if support problems, reconciliation gaps, or costs outweigh its value.
A rise in orders during a pilot does not by itself prove the new payment option caused the rise. Compare results with a suitable baseline and account for seasonality, promotions, traffic changes, and other factors that could affect sales.
What the evidence does—and does not—show
Merchant survey responses indicate interest in crypto checkout and perceived potential to attract customers, while consumer and market evidence shows established payment methods remain important. The available sources do not show that adding XEC specifically produces a measurable growth lift, nor do they establish comparative provider pricing or confirm XEC compatibility for a named gateway. A merchant’s strongest basis for adoption is therefore verified demand, clear operational terms, and pilot results from its own checkout—not a general promise attached to “eCash.”
