Published lists combine playable racket models, reported auction sales, unverified asking or list prices, and a diamond-covered tournament trophy—different kinds of objects and different kinds of prices. The figures below are best read as reported claims, not a verified leaderboard.
Why a reliable top-ten ranking is not possible
“Most expensive” can mean a racket’s retail price, an asking price, a completed auction sale, or a reported valuation. Those measures are not interchangeable. A price attached to a model does not establish that anyone paid it, and a trophy’s stated value is not a sale price.
The available coverage also does not consistently establish sale dates, currencies and fees, provenance, or authentication. Without those details—and comparable primary auction records—ranking ten objects would imply more certainty than the evidence supports.
Reported figures, separated by what they describe
| Item | Reported figure | What the source says—and what it does not establish |
|---|---|---|
| Proximus Diamond Games racket-shaped trophy | $1.3 million; more than 1,700 diamonds | Expensive World reported this in 2022 as a trophy valuation, not a demonstrated sale price. The coverage describes a gold-and-diamond prize awarded after a player won three singles titles in five years. These details are secondary reporting, not a primary record establishing a sale. Expensive World. |
| Billie Jean King’s Wilson racket | $125,000 | Money Inc. reported this as an auction sale price in an article posted in 2018 and updated in 2020. The original auction lot record was not located, so the figure is not independently verified here. Money Inc.. |
| Wilson Pro Staff 85 Original | $2,000 | Insider Monkey stated this figure in a 2014 listicle. The article does not establish that it was a completed sale or define the price as a current market value. Insider Monkey. |
| Bosworth Tour 96 | $18,000 | Readree listed this amount in 2025, but does not substantiate it as a completed transaction. It should not be treated as a confirmed market price. Readree. |
| Yonex Astrel 105 | $17,000 | Readree listed this amount in 2025, but does not substantiate it as a completed transaction. It should not be treated as a confirmed market price. Readree. |
These entries do not form a ranked list: one is a trophy valuation, one is a secondary report of an auction sale, and the rest are figures from listicles without demonstrated completed sales. The underlying records needed to compare them on equal terms are not established by those sources.

How to interpret the trophy and racket prices
The Proximus prize was a trophy, not ordinary playing equipment
The reported $1.3 million figure concerns a one-off, racket-shaped gold-and-diamond trophy. It belongs in a discussion of tennis-related valuables, but it should not be described as the price of a playable racket or as the most expensive racket ever sold: the cited coverage reports a value, not a sale.
A reported auction price needs a traceable transaction
Billie Jean King’s Wilson racket is described by Money Inc. as having sold for $125,000. That is a notable reported figure, but without the original lot page or another primary auction record, readers cannot check the transaction details, provenance, or whether fees were included. The distinction matters especially for match-used memorabilia, where historical association and documented ownership can drive value beyond the equipment itself.

Model prices in listicles are not sale records
The Wilson Pro Staff 85 Original figure dates to a 2014 article, while Readree’s much larger Bosworth Tour 96 and Yonex Astrel 105 figures appear in a 2025 list. Those pages do not establish that the amounts were paid in completed transactions. A model’s listed price, asking price, or unsourced figure cannot stand in for a verified market sale.
What would make a ranking defensible?
A credible ranking of the most expensive tennis rackets ever sold would need, for each entry:
Rank #3
- Wilson Tour Slam Adult Recreational Tennis Racket - Grip Size 2 - 4 1/4", Pink/Grey
- Volcanic Frame Technology provides enhanced power and stability
- Power Strings feature longer strings for explosive power
- AirLite Alloy construction creates lightweight frame with power and durability
- Stop Shock Pads reduce racket vibrations for improved feel
- A primary auction-house lot record or similarly reliable transaction documentation.
- A completed sale price, distinguished from an estimate, asking price, or reported valuation.
- The sale date and currency, plus clarity on whether the amount includes buyer’s premium.
- Provenance and authentication details, especially for player-used rackets.
- A clear category: playable equipment, match-used collectible, or trophy.
Goldin’s pages confirm that it runs auctions and includes tennis among its categories, but a general results page does not verify a particular racket sale. A relevant original lot is needed to substantiate an individual price. Goldin.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Buying a racket to play is a different question
Collectors may pay for a racket’s history and documented connection to a player or match. Players choosing equipment need a racket suited to their game and budget; the reported trophy and memorabilia figures say nothing about the value or performance of ordinary retail rackets. The cited sources do not provide a dependable current retail-price comparison, so they cannot identify the most expensive playable model available today.
