What do the review and box-office figures show?
Reviews: an 89% snapshot
ComicBook.com reported an 89% Rotten Tomatoes score based on 237 reviews on September 20, 2025. That is a dated critics-score snapshot, not a verified current score or an objective measure of quality. Rotten Tomatoes scores can change as reviews are added or its underlying data changes.
In the same September 20, 2025 comparison, ComicBook.com listed Carrie at 94%, Stand by Me and 1922 at 92% each, Gerald’s Game and Misery at 91% each, and The Shawshank Redemption at 89%. On that dated list, The Long Walk matched The Shawshank Redemption and trailed Carrie. These percentages are useful only as a comparison of the scores reported at that time, not as a lasting ranking. - A group of teenage boys compete in an annual contest known as "The Long Walk," where they must maintain a certain walking speed or get shot.
Box office: an opening, not a lifetime total
An IMDb news aggregation page reported a domestic opening weekend of $11.5 million on September 16, 2025, attributing the figure to Box Office Mojo. That is an opening-weekend figure, not the film’s cumulative domestic gross or worldwide total. The available reporting does not establish either lifetime total, nor does it verify the exact amount used in the original headline. IMDb’s September 16, 2025 report.
How to interpret “off to the races”
The phrase points to the film’s early box-office performance, while “best-reviewed” refers to the contemporaneous Rotten Tomatoes score. Together, the reported opening and review snapshot make the headline’s characterization understandable. They do not, by themselves, show whether the movie ultimately became a box-office hit: that would require cumulative domestic and worldwide results, which the cited reporting does not provide.
