The final Pontiac GTO generation is the 2004–2006 coupe, and examples have appeared around or below $15,000. That budget is not a reliable price for a good-condition car: Hagerty’s average condition-3 value for the generation is $18,800, while documented sub-$15,000 examples include high mileage and the market records distinguish asking prices from completed sales.
Which GTO is the last one?
The final GTO generation arrived for the 2004 model year and ran through 2006. It was a U.S.-market adaptation of the Holden Monaro, rather than a continuation of the earlier American GTOs. The original U.S. run ended in 1974, when the GTO was an option package on the Pontiac Ventura.
The 2004 model used a 5.7-liter LS1 V8 rated at 350 horsepower, paired with either a Tremec six-speed manual or a four-speed automatic. Hagerty’s February 18, 2026 model report identifies those specifications and the Monaro connection.
What does $15,000 buy?
It can put a buyer in range, but the available figures do not establish $15,000 as the going price for a sound, good-condition example. Hagerty reports an average condition-3 value of $18,800 for 2004–2006 GTOs, up 6.8% since 2020; the captured valuation page does not state its publication date. Condition-based values are guides, not guaranteed transaction prices.

#1 Best Overall
- V8 POWER: The model features a 400 cubic inch V8 engine, reflecting the muscle and power that defined the GTO's reputation.
- DETAILED SUSPENSION & EXHAUST: The kit incorporates separate rear suspension and exhaust detailing, adding to the realism of the model.
- BUCKET SEATS & CONSOLE: The model's interior features bucket seats and a floor shifter with a console, capturing the iconic look and feel of the GTO.
- OPTIONAL SUPERCHARGER: For those seeking more power, the kit offers an optional supercharger, allowing you to customize your model.
- CLEAR & COMPREHENSIVE INSTRUCTIONS: The included instructions are clear and user-friendly, making the kit accessible to modelers of different skill levels, from beginners to experienced hobbyists.
Individual market records illustrate the spread. Hagerty recorded a 2004 GTO with 148,450 miles selling for $9,416 on September 4, 2026. Its captured guide values for a 2004 were $16,400 in condition 3 and $9,800 in condition 4; the valuation excerpt does not identify the guide month. CLASSIC.COM’s 2004 archive recorded an $11,000 auction sale on June 25, 2026, and a $13,999 last asking price dated July 24, 2026. The asking price is not evidence the car sold for that amount.
These are dated examples, not confirmation of cars currently available. They show why a low advertised or completed price needs context: mileage, condition, and whether the figure is an asking price or a sale all matter.

How the earlier classic compares
If “classic GTO” means the 1960s–1974 American cars, $15,000 is a less realistic target for a good-condition example. Hagerty’s July 2026 figures put a good-condition 1970 GTO convertible at $26,533–$36,833 and a good-condition 1970 455 hardtop at $35,033–$45,867. Those examples are well above the budget, making the 2004–2006 generation the more plausible GTO to investigate at this price point.

Treat a sub-$15,000 price as a reason to investigate the car, not as proof of a bargain or a trouble-free purchase. Compare candidates on the factors that can change both value and ownership risk:

- Year and generation: Confirm whether it is a 2004–2006 return-generation coupe or an earlier GTO.
- Mileage and condition: The documented $9,416 sale had 148,450 miles; a low price should be considered alongside wear and mechanical condition.
- Title and accident history: Review title status and available history records rather than relying on the listing description.
- Transmission: Establish whether the car has the six-speed manual or four-speed automatic and assess its condition.
- Originality and modifications: Note non-original parts or performance changes and consider how they affect maintenance, reliability, and value.
- Price evidence: Separate the seller’s asking price from a completed sale, and compare both with condition-based guide values.
Because the documented examples vary substantially, no single figure guarantees what a particular car is worth. Condition, history, and the specific transaction matter more than the budget headline.
