The original Galaxy Watch Ultra is a strong buy only if you can still find new U.S. stock around $325–$350 from a seller with a clear warranty and return policy. Woot briefly offered the 2024 model for $319.99 on July 1, 2026—about 50.8% below its $649.99 list price—but that was a retailer promotion, not a lasting Samsung price cut. The Galaxy Watch Ultra2 has since launched, so the decision is now about whether its hardware upgrades are worth the higher price.
What did the “50% off” deal actually mean?
On July 1, 2026, Woot briefly listed the brand-new 2024 Galaxy Watch Ultra for $319.99. Against the $649.99 list price, that is a $330 reduction, or about 50.8%. The deal report described free shipping for Prime members and a $6 delivery charge otherwise. The price and stock were specific to that Woot promotion; they do not mean Samsung cut every Ultra to that price. 9to5Google’s July 1 deal report

The promotion is historical, not a price you can assume is still available. Samsung’s June 2026 U.S. MSRP sheet continued to list Galaxy Watch Ultra LTE variants at $649.99, while its offer page highlighted trade-in credit rather than a universal half-price reduction. How much does Ultra2 cost, and when did it arrive?
Samsung announced the Galaxy Watch Ultra2 on July 22, 2026, and general availability began August 7. Its U.S. launch price is $699.99—$50 more than the original Ultra’s listed price. Samsung’s offer page advertises up to $200 in instant trade-in credit for a Galaxy Watch Ultra, but the actual credit depends on the device and transaction; it is not a guaranteed discount for every buyer. Specifications are from Samsung’s Ultra2 product comparison and launch announcement. The 2024 Ultra and the 2025 refresh were described as nearly identical, but that comparison should not be confused with the 2026 Ultra2: Samsung lists meaningful hardware differences between the older Ultra and Ultra2.
Display and outdoor use
Ultra2’s peak brightness specification rises from 3,000 to 5,000 nits, and its screen grows from 1.47 to 1.52 inches. That can matter when checking data in direct sunlight while running, cycling, skiing, or boating. Peak brightness is a manufacturer specification, not a promise that the screen will appear 67% easier to read in every condition. Indoor users may notice less practical benefit.
Battery and charging
The larger 800mAh battery is Ultra2’s clearest hardware advantage over the older model’s 590mAh battery. Samsung claims up to 60 hours with always-on display enabled and says the watch can reach 40% charge in 30 minutes. Treat both as manufacturer claims, not guaranteed results: LTE, GPS workouts, brightness, sleep tracking, temperature, and software settings all affect endurance. The difference is most useful for long GPS sessions, overnight tracking, LTE use, and people who dislike frequent charging.
Storage and processing
Ultra2 has 64GB of storage and 2GB of memory, alongside a five-core Snapdragon Wear Elite chip manufactured on a 3nm process. More storage gives room for offline music, apps, maps, and downloaded content; it matters less if you stream and install few apps. The newer processor and software baseline may appeal to someone keeping a watch for several years, but no specific future-support period is established here.

Outdoor training and diving
Ultra2 emphasizes GPX route loading with turn-by-turn guidance, climb guidance, trail-running metrics, and hydration or nutrition alerts. Samsung also says it can track dive depth, dive time, and water temperature, with an advanced Ultra2 Diving app expected later in 2026. Its EN13319 certification and dive functions do not make it a universal replacement for dedicated, safety-critical diving equipment.
What remains familiar
Both watches keep the same broad concept: a large, rugged, titanium-built, LTE-capable Samsung smartwatch with dual-frequency GPS and Samsung’s BioActive health sensor platform. Ultra2 remains a substantial 47mm watch, listed at 61.5g and 10.7mm thick. If you want a small or unobtrusive wearable, the newer model does not solve that problem. Samsung’s launch announcement
Who should buy the original Ultra?
Choose the older Ultra if it is near $325–$350, the seller offers a clear U.S. warranty and return policy, and your main uses are notifications, Samsung Health, sleep tracking, payments, music, and routine GPS workouts. At roughly half Ultra2’s $699.99 launch price, the original can deliver the rugged-watch experience without charging you for upgrades you may not use.
- You do not need the brightest display, the larger battery, faster charging, or the extra storage.
- You are not relying on Ultra2’s newer trail or diving capabilities.
- The exact model, storage, LTE status, and regional compatibility suit your phone and carrier.
- The final price is still attractive after shipping and tax, and the condition is genuinely new rather than open-box or refurbished.
As old inventory clears, a low sticker price is not enough by itself: check warranty coverage, returns, and whether a listing is for the 2024 model or a 2025 refresh. If the original Ultra is priced near $500 or more, the savings over Ultra2 shrink enough to make the newer hardware harder to dismiss.

- Everyday protection: Flexible and shock-absorbent layer defends against daily scratches, bumps, and drops
- Raised bezels: Elevated edges offer extra screen protection from direct impacts
- Precise cutouts: Easy access to all buttons and sensors
- Flexible fit: Soft TPU material allows quick and hassle-free installation
- Check for Compatibility: Only compatible with Galaxy Watch Ultra 2 47mm (2026). NOT compatible with Galaxy Watch Ultra 47mm (2025/2024).
Who should pay more for Ultra2?
Ultra2 makes more sense if its specific upgrades solve a problem you have. Outdoor athletes who often read the watch in strong sun, people tracking long GPS or LTE sessions, and anyone who values faster charging or substantial offline storage have a clearer reason to pay extra. It is also the relevant choice for buyers interested in Samsung’s new trail and diving features, with the diving-app timing and capabilities subject to Samsung’s stated rollout.
- Compare the actual checkout price after trade-in, not just the advertised maximum credit.
- For carrier offers, include required service, installment terms, activation charges, and bill-credit conditions.
- For a long-term purchase, weigh the newer hardware and launch software against the price gap; do not assume a particular number of software-update years without a published policy.
T-Mobile lists Ultra2 at $699.99 full price and advertises up to $430 off with a new watch line; its deals page also shows a $35 device connection charge. The offer is most relevant if you already want the cellular service and meet its terms, not if you are seeking an unlocked watch with no added line. T-Mobile’s watch deals
How to check an Ultra deal before buying
- Identify the generation and configuration. Confirm whether the listing is for the 2024 Ultra, a 2025 refresh, or Ultra2; check model number, color, storage, and LTE status rather than relying on a shortened product title.
- Confirm region and carrier fit. For Ultra2, Samsung lists Android 13 or later and a phone with more than 1.5GB of memory; LTE bands, carrier support, and health-feature availability can vary by region. Check the requirements for your specific phone and country. Samsung’s compatibility information
- Read the condition and warranty terms. Distinguish new, open-box, and refurbished inventory. Verify who provides the warranty, how long it lasts, and whether returns are allowed.
- Calculate the real price. Add shipping and tax; for trade-ins, check the value for your exact device; for carrier credits, include any required line, plan, installments, and connection fee.
- Match the model to the use. Do not pay for a rugged LTE watch if you mainly want a lighter everyday wearable, or for dive features if you need professional dive equipment.
When should you consider something else?
If you want a smaller, less rugged Samsung watch, the Galaxy Watch8 is a more conventional alternative. Samsung’s June 2026 MSRP sheet lists its 40mm Bluetooth model at $349.99 and its 44mm Bluetooth model at $379.99 before promotions. Samsung’s June 2026 MSRP sheet
Serious endurance athletes may prefer a Garmin model selected for their training and mapping needs; compare those models separately because pricing and capabilities vary. iPhone users should look at Apple Watch options instead: Galaxy Watch models are oriented toward Android, and compatibility should be checked before purchase. For Ultra hardware below new-stock pricing, certified refurbished stock can be worth considering only when the seller clearly states battery condition, warranty, and returns. Samsung identifies sleep-apnea risk detection as FDA-cleared on its Ultra2 page; that status applies to the named feature, not automatically to every health measurement. Samsung’s Ultra2 product page
