The cheapest new car in the available U.S. 2026 price ranking is the Hyundai Venue, at $22,650 including destination, according to an Associated Press report published by Edmunds on May 27, 2026. That ranking verifies five vehicles—not ten—so a complete top-10 list cannot be stated reliably from the available consistent price evidence. These are starting prices, not out-the-door quotes or measures of total ownership cost.

The cited ranking supports five least-expensive vehicles. It does not establish positions six through ten on the same destination-included basis. Adding cars from other model years or mixing manufacturer MSRPs that exclude destination with prices that include it could produce a misleading order, so no further ranks are assigned here.
#1 Best Overall
The 2026 Toyota Corolla LE is a useful price cross-shop, but its listed $23,125 base MSRP is not a destination-included figure. The available ranking does not establish where it would fall among the five vehicles above on a like-for-like basis. Toyota’s 2026 Corolla page lists that base MSRP.
What the advertised starting prices leave out
A starting price is not the amount a buyer necessarily pays. Depending on the manufacturer’s stated basis and the dealer’s offer, the final price may also reflect destination or freight, taxes, title and license charges, dealer fees, options, and applicable incentives. Confirm which charges are included before comparing offers, and ask the dealer for an itemized out-the-door quote.
Rank #2
Manufacturer pages illustrate why price bases matter. Hyundai lists a 2026 Venue starting MSRP of $20,550, excluding freight, tax, title, and license; its Elantra page lists a starting MSRP of $22,825 on the same exclusion basis. Those figures differ from the destination-included Venue and Elantra prices in the AP/Edmunds ranking because the listed price bases differ, not necessarily because one source is incorrect. Hyundai also says actual dealer prices may vary.
- Hyundai’s 2026 Venue page lists the MSRP and excluded charges.
- Hyundai’s 2026 Elantra page lists its MSRP and excluded charges.
- Chevrolet’s 2026 Trax page says MSRP excludes destination freight, tax, title, license, dealer fees, and options.
How to compare the cars for your budget
The lowest starting price is a useful filter, but it does not show which car costs less to own or suits a particular buyer. Before choosing, compare the same model year and trim for body style and passenger or cargo space, EPA-estimated fuel economy, standard safety and infotainment equipment, warranty coverage, and local availability. The available price ranking does not provide a complete side-by-side comparison of all those factors for ten vehicles.

- Set a comparable price basis. Compare destination-included prices, or add destination to each manufacturer MSRP before ordering the list. Keep taxes, title, license, dealer charges, options, and incentives separate until you have a local quote.
- Check the exact trim. A base price applies to a particular entry trim; verify the equipment and price of the version actually available at nearby dealers.
- Request itemized local offers. Ask what is included, whether options or dealer fees have been added, and whether any incentive applies to your circumstances.
- Look beyond the purchase price. Compare expected fuel use, insurance, maintenance, and financing terms for the specific vehicles you are considering. A low advertised starting price alone does not establish the lowest total cost.
