Kelechi Iheanacho tops the clearest published 2024/25 EFL Championship wage list at an estimated £75,000 a week. But the available figures are estimates, not official salary disclosures, and published sources disagree on several players’ pay. The evidence supports a dated ranking of 12 players—not a dependable, verified top 20.
What the 2024/25 estimates show
The Football Group published this ranking on February 28, 2025, attributing the figures to Capology and stating they were correct at publication. Its list reports estimated weekly wages for 12 players in the English Championship. The amounts below preserve that article’s ranking and figures; they are not verified contract terms or a full-season accounting.

The published sources conflict
Capology’s surfaced 2024/25 season table gives several figures that differ from The Football Group’s February list. For example, it lists Holgate at an estimated £50,000 a week rather than £70,000, Phillips at £45,000 rather than £65,000, Solomon at £45,000 rather than £60,000, and O’Brien at £35,000 rather than £50,000. The available evidence does not establish why the estimates differ, so choosing selectively between them would create a misleading composite ranking.
#1 Best Overall
Capology’s 2024/25 Championship salary page displays estimated figures and distinguishes fixed salary, bonuses and total compensation. Its table supports some leading amounts, including Iheanacho at £75,000 a week and Bamford at £70,000, but it does not make the other source’s disputed figures definitive.
The evidence does not establish places 13–20
The strongest contemporary editorial ranking available covers 12 names. Although Capology’s season table includes more players, the evidence here does not independently verify a complete, consistent set of ranks 13–20. The title’s requested top 20 therefore cannot be presented as a settled ranking without overstating what the published figures establish.

What “pay” means in these lists
The weekly amounts are estimates of gross fixed salary, not take-home pay. Capology separates fixed salary from estimated annual bonuses and total compensation. Its fixed-pay definition excludes image rights, commercial agreements, bonuses and other compensation; bonus data may also be incomplete. Comparing a fixed weekly estimate with an annual total would mix different measures.
Loans add another complication: Capology notes that a loaned player may have multiple salary estimates reflecting how pay is allocated between the former and current clubs. The cited lists do not independently verify which club paid what share for each player, so the club column identifies the team named by The Football Group rather than establishing salary responsibility.

How to read the figures
- They are estimates, not disclosures. Capology states: “All salaries are estimates and are not official figures.” It also notes that some entries are algorithmic estimates and historical data may be incomplete.
- They are a snapshot, not a season-long ledger. The Football Group’s figures reflect its February 2025 publication-time snapshot; the evidence does not show that each amount applied unchanged throughout the season.
- They are not net income. Gross estimated salary does not account for tax or establish what a player actually received after deductions.
- They are not a definitive ordering across all players. Disagreements between published estimates prevent confidence in a precise league-wide top 20.
Capology’s displayed 2024/25 dataset also reports estimated gross fixed first-team salaries of £443,299,600 and estimated gross total salaries and bonuses of £549,949,300, with an average annual salary of £577,966 across 767 of 768 available players. These are platform estimates, not official Championship totals.
