The Best Reseller Web Hosting Services We’ve Tested for 2026

The best reseller hosting depends on more than the advertised monthly price. Compare ScalaHosting, Liquid Web, InMotion, GreenGeeks, HostGator, and ResellerClub for tools, limits, support, and profit potential.

Reseller hosting is a small-business product, not simply a discounted shared-hosting plan. You are buying server resources plus the tools to create separate customer accounts, attach your own branding, set prices, collect recurring payments, and keep one customer’s website from becoming everyone else’s outage.

For most new agencies, ScalaHosting is the best starting point because it combines managed infrastructure with reseller-friendly account controls. Liquid Web is the stronger choice for agencies serving larger or more demanding sites, while InMotion Hosting offers a useful middle ground. GreenGeeks stands out for agencies that want an environmental angle in their sales proposition.

Prices, included licenses, storage limits, and renewal rates change frequently. Treat the figures shown at checkout as the source of truth, and compare the total cost of ownership—not just the promotional monthly rate.

Our picks for the best reseller web hosting

Provider Best for What makes it stand out Main drawback
ScalaHosting Most new reseller businesses Managed hosting, reseller account tools, white-label options, and a relatively approachable control panel Advanced customization may require a higher-tier plan or support assistance
Liquid Web Higher-end agencies and managed services Strong infrastructure, support, and a focus on professional hosting operations Costs more than entry-level reseller platforms
InMotion Hosting Growing agencies that need room to expand Reseller plans with conventional hosting controls and useful resource allocations Plan names, license inclusions, and promotional pricing need careful checking
GreenGeeks Eco-conscious agencies Reseller hosting paired with a sustainability-focused brand Not every customer will value the environmental positioning enough to offset other price differences
HostGator Low-cost entry and familiar shared-hosting workflows Broad plan range and beginner-friendly account management Backups, malware protection, and some operational extras may cost more
ResellerClub Domain-heavy businesses Hosting and domain-selling tools designed around reseller accounts Less compelling if your business mainly sells managed WordPress or application hosting

1. ScalaHosting: best overall for most resellers

ScalaHosting is the most balanced option for a freelancer, web designer, or small agency that wants to resell hosting without becoming a server administrator. Its reseller offering is built around separated customer accounts, white-label presentation, and managed infrastructure rather than leaving you to maintain every service yourself.

The key feature is the ability to manage customers independently. You should be able to create packages with different disk, bandwidth, mailbox, database, and domain limits, then suspend or modify one account without affecting the others. That matters when a client stops paying or a site begins consuming excessive resources.

ScalaHosting also uses its own SPanel environment on some managed products. That can be an advantage if you want a modern alternative to cPanel, but it is a migration issue for customers who expect traditional cPanel instructions. Before buying, confirm whether your selected reseller plan includes cPanel, SPanel, or both, and whether the license cost is included.

Choose it if: you want managed infrastructure and predictable account administration without paying enterprise-level prices.

Skip it if: your customers specifically require cPanel or you need deep, low-level server customization that managed hosting restricts.

2. Liquid Web: best for premium agency hosting

Liquid Web is better suited to an agency selling performance, support, and managed service rather than the cheapest mailbox-and-website bundle. Its infrastructure and support model make more sense when a customer’s site generates leads, processes orders, or supports an internal business operation.

The financial case is straightforward: a more expensive reseller account can still be profitable if it lets you charge for monitoring, updates, security, backups, staging, and priority support. It is a poor fit if you plan to compete solely on a low monthly hosting price.

Pay particular attention to what is included in the advertised package. Reseller hosting may involve separate charges for control-panel licenses, billing software, backup capacity, premium support, or additional IP addresses. Those costs can materially change your gross margin.

Choose it if: you sell hosting as part of a managed website or IT service.

Skip it if: you are validating a business idea with only a few low-value clients.

3. InMotion Hosting: best middle ground for a growing agency

InMotion Hosting is a practical option for agencies that have moved beyond one-off website projects but are not ready for a premium managed-services platform. Its reseller plans generally follow the familiar hosting model: a parent account, customer packages, domain and email management, and access to a standard administration environment.

That conventional setup can reduce friction. Many freelance developers already know cPanel and WHM, and many customer-support tutorials assume those tools. Still, do not assume every reseller tier includes the same software. Check the current plan for the exact number of cPanel accounts, storage allocation, backup frequency, SSL handling, and billing-system access.

InMotion is particularly worth considering when you want to keep hosting separate from your own development stack. You can sell a branded hosting package while retaining the option to move heavy or unusual projects to a VPS later.

Choose it if: you want familiar reseller controls and a platform that can support a modest client portfolio.

Skip it if: your main selling point is the lowest possible price or you need highly specialized cloud architecture.

4. GreenGeeks: best for sustainability-focused branding

GreenGeeks gives agencies a distinct marketing angle: hosting that can be presented as a more environmentally conscious choice. That can be useful when your customers are nonprofits, ethical brands, sustainability consultants, or businesses with environmental reporting requirements.

The environmental claim should not be your only selection criterion. Compare server locations, storage rules, backup retention, support response, account limits, and renewal pricing with conventional reseller providers. A green label does not automatically mean faster hosting, more generous resources, or better support.

GreenGeeks becomes more attractive when the brand fit helps you win or retain customers. If clients do not care about sustainability, another provider may offer better economics or more flexible technical controls.

Choose it if: sustainability is part of your agency’s positioning and your customers value it.

Skip it if: your priority is maximum technical flexibility per dollar.

5. HostGator: best for a low-cost entry point

HostGator is familiar, widely documented, and aimed at beginners. That makes it a reasonable place to test whether clients will actually pay for your hosting service before committing to a more sophisticated platform.

The important qualification is that the cheapest plan is not necessarily the cheapest operating plan. Automated backups, malware cleanup, additional security, and premium support may be add-ons. If you promise daily backups to customers, price the backup product into every package rather than absorbing it as an unplanned expense.

HostGator can work for brochure sites and small WordPress installations. It is less suitable for a portfolio containing busy online stores, resource-intensive applications, or clients who expect you to provide guaranteed incident response.

Choose it if: you need a recognizable, accessible platform for a small initial customer base.

Skip it if: your service promise includes premium performance or hands-on infrastructure management.

6. ResellerClub: best when domains are central to the business

ResellerClub is worth examining if your business model includes domain registrations, transfers, renewals, and hosting in one customer account. Domain reselling has different economics from hosting: margins can be thin, renewal dates create support work, and privacy, transfer, and registry rules can affect the customer experience.

Before signing up, calculate the full annual cost of each domain extension you intend to sell. Compare wholesale registration, renewal, transfer, privacy, and redemption fees. A low first-year domain price can become a liability if the renewal price is not clearly disclosed to the customer.

Choose it if: you want domains and hosting to be core products.

What to check before buying reseller hosting

1. Account and resource limits

Look beyond “unlimited” wording. Confirm the number of customer accounts, CPU and memory limits, inode limits, database limits, email quotas, and allowed processes. “Unlimited bandwidth” does not mean a server can handle unlimited simultaneous visitors, and a storage allowance may exclude certain file types or backups.

Ask whether resources are pooled across the reseller account or assigned per customer. Pooled resources are flexible, but one badly behaved site can affect the rest of your portfolio if the provider’s isolation is weak.

2. White-label capability

A proper reseller product should let customers see your business name, support email, nameservers, logo, or at least a neutral hosting identity. Check whether the provider’s name appears in control-panel URLs, outgoing system messages, server headers, invoices, or support pages.

White-label hosting is not the same as simply placing your logo on an invoice. If your customers can contact the upstream host directly, you may lose control of the support relationship.

3. Billing and automation

WHMCS remains common in reseller hosting, but it may be included only on selected plans or offered as a license add-on. Verify that the system can:

  • create hosting accounts automatically after payment;
  • send renewal and overdue notices;
  • suspend accounts for nonpayment;
  • apply taxes or VAT rules correctly;
  • accept your preferred payment methods; and
  • handle domain registration and renewal if you sell domains.

Manual provisioning is manageable for three customers. It becomes an error-prone unpaid job at 30 or 50 customers.

4. Backups and restores

Ask how often backups run, how long they are retained, where they are stored, and whether you or the customer can perform a restore. A backup advertised as “available” may mean a manual snapshot, a weekly copy, or a separately billed service.

Keep an independent backup for important client sites. If the backup system and the production server fail together, a provider-only backup is not a complete disaster-recovery plan.

5. Support boundaries

Reseller support usually helps with the server and hosting platform. It may not include fixing a customer’s broken WordPress plugin, custom PHP code, hacked theme, email configuration on a phone, or third-party DNS mistake.

Write those boundaries into your own service agreement. Otherwise, customers may assume that a low-cost hosting package includes unlimited website maintenance.

The numbers to calculate before launch

Use a simple break-even model:

Monthly break-even customers = monthly operating cost ÷ monthly gross profit per customer

For example, if hosting, billing software, payment fees, monitoring, and backup tools cost $120 per month, and you retain $12 per customer after direct costs, you need 10 active customers just to cover those expenses. That calculation excludes your labor, taxes, refunds, advertising, and bad debt.

Cost Why it matters
Introductory hosting price Shows the promotional cash outlay, often paid upfront
Renewal price Determines whether your pricing remains profitable after the first term
Control-panel licenses May be billed separately or change with account count
Billing automation Reduces manual work but can add a recurring software fee
Backups and security Should be included if you promise them to customers
Payment processing and taxes Reduce the amount you actually keep from each invoice
Support labor The largest hidden cost in many reseller businesses

How to choose between shared reseller hosting and a VPS

Shared reseller hosting is usually the sensible first step. The provider handles the operating system and much of the server maintenance, while you focus on customer acquisition and support. A VPS offers more control and predictable resources, but it also creates responsibilities for updates, security hardening, monitoring, mail reputation, and incident response.

Move to a VPS when the business has a clear technical reason—such as resource isolation, custom services, unusual software, or a consistent client base that justifies the administration cost. Do not upgrade merely because “VPS” sounds more professional.

Common reseller-hosting mistakes

  1. Pricing from the first-term promotion: publish customer prices that still work at renewal.
  2. Promising unlimited resources: define practical limits and acceptable-use rules.
  3. Including unlimited support: charge separately for maintenance and emergency work.
  4. Relying on the provider’s backup alone: maintain an independent copy of valuable sites.
  5. Ignoring email: mailbox size, sending limits, spam filtering, and deliverability need separate review.
  6. Failing to plan for account ownership: document how customers receive their files, domains, and databases if they leave.

FAQ

What is reseller web hosting?

Reseller hosting lets you purchase server capacity from a hosting company and divide it into separate customer accounts. You can sell those accounts under your own business name, usually with package limits, white-label tools, and optional billing automation.

Is reseller hosting profitable?

It can be, but the hosting fee is only one part of the calculation. Control-panel licenses, billing software, backups, payment fees, taxes, support time, refunds, and renewal pricing all affect profit. Agencies usually earn more by bundling hosting with maintenance, security, and website management.

Do I need technical knowledge to resell hosting?

You do not need to administer a server from scratch when using managed reseller hosting, but you should understand DNS, SSL, email records, backups, WordPress troubleshooting, account limits, and basic security. Customers will usually treat you as their first line of support.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Should I choose reseller hosting or a VPS?

Choose reseller hosting when you want the provider to manage most server operations and your priority is launching a customer service quickly. Choose a VPS when you need defined resources or custom software and are prepared to handle more administration, monitoring, and security work.

The Bottom Line

ScalaHosting is the best overall starting point for most reseller businesses. It offers a practical balance of management tools, customer-account separation, and operational simplicity. Choose Liquid Web when your customers justify a premium managed service, InMotion when you want a conventional platform with room to grow, GreenGeeks when sustainability supports your sales pitch, and HostGator when you are testing demand at a lower entry cost.

Whichever provider you choose, build your price from the renewal rate and include every tool you promise. A reseller plan is not a passive-income product: your real margin depends on support time, backup discipline, billing automation, and how clearly you define the service.
