Where shoppers could really save hundreds
Large OLED and QLED televisions
Televisions offered the clearest path to savings of several hundred dollars because retailers were discounting large screens and clearing some previous-generation models. The 65-inch LG C4 OLED was reported at about $1,296.99 at Walmart, while smaller C4 sizes were reported starting around $796.

The LG C4 was a 2024 model during the 2025 sale, but it still offered features that mattered for movies and gaming: OLED contrast, a 120Hz panel, Dolby Vision, HDMI 2.1, variable refresh rate and automatic low-latency mode. A prior-generation OLED can be excellent value when its picture quality matters more than having the newest processor.
There were trade-offs. OLED panels can experience image retention or burn-in under certain long-term usage patterns, and a bright room or heavy news-and-sports schedule may favor a QLED or mini-LED television. Delivery, installation, wall mounting, haul-away, protection plans and return terms can also reduce the practical value of a headline discount. Gaming laptops and desktops
Gaming computers were another strong category for absolute savings, particularly systems with discrete graphics or higher-end processors. However, not every “gaming deal” was a good deal. A large markdown on an older GPU, low-memory configuration or poor display may be less useful than a smaller discount on a better-balanced system.

For a gaming laptop, compare the exact GPU, processor, memory, storage, display resolution, refresh rate, ports and cooling design. For a desktop, include the monitor and upgrade costs in the budget. The reported sale price should be judged against the computer’s capability, not only its percentage discount. GamesRadar’s historical Best Buy gaming coverage provides additional event context.
The Apple deals that were worth considering
M4 MacBook Air
The 13-inch M4 MacBook Air with 16GB of memory and a 256GB SSD fell to about $849–$850 from a $999 reference price. The 15-inch 16GB/256GB model reached about $1,049–$1,050 from $1,199. Selected 512GB configurations also received discounts.
This was one of the more credible laptop deals because the M4 was current-generation hardware during Memorial Day 2025, and the machine combined strong everyday performance, a quality display, a camera and long battery life. The limitation was the base 256GB storage: it can fill quickly with photos, video, games or creative projects. Storage cannot be upgraded later, so paying more for 512GB may be sensible if the laptop is intended to last several years.

Some retailer prices required an on-page coupon or applied only to a particular configuration. Verify the model before buying using Apple’s MacBook Air buying page. Buyers with sustained professional workloads, extensive ports or demanding graphics needs may be better served by a MacBook Pro or a Windows workstation.
iPad models
The 128GB Wi-Fi iPad with the A16 chip was reported around $299 versus $349, while selected iPad mini 7 configurations were discounted by approximately $100. M3 iPad Air and M4 iPad Pro models saw reductions of up to about $300 on selected configurations.
The largest dollar discounts were attached to higher-storage or higher-end models, which also cost substantially more. Compare storage, cellular capability, screen size, processor generation and included accessories. An iPad that requires a keyboard, stylus, cellular plan or extra storage may cost more than the sale listing suggests.
Apple Watch Series 10
The 42mm GPS Apple Watch Series 10 was reported at $299 versus $399, while the 46mm GPS model reached $329 versus $429. Cellular and titanium versions offered larger potential dollar savings.
Cellular is worthwhile only for buyers who will use the watch away from an iPhone and accept a recurring carrier charge. Compatibility also matters: Apple Watch is designed for iPhone users. Someone who only needs notifications, step counting or basic sleep tracking may not get enough value from a premium model to justify the purchase.

AirPods 4 with active noise cancellation fell to about $149 from $179. That was a reasonable discount on a current Apple audio product, but it was a tens-of-dollars saving—not a “save hundreds” purchase.

Check whether a listing is new, open-box or refurbished. Refurbished AirPods should be presented separately because condition, battery health, hygiene and warranty terms can differ. Buyers who prioritize the strongest noise cancellation or silicone ear tips may prefer AirPods Pro 2 or another competing model.
How to interpret the advertised savings
The basic calculation is:
Reference price − sale price = advertised savings
The important question is what the reference price represents. It may be a manufacturer list price, a retailer’s regular price, a price before a coupon, or a retailer-defined “comparable value.” Those labels are not interchangeable.

- List-price discount: The difference from the manufacturer’s stated price.
- Regular-price discount: The difference from the retailer’s stated prior price.
- Comparable value: A retailer comparison that may not reflect the product’s prevailing street price.
- Coupon price: Available only after an on-page, account-specific or membership-based coupon is applied.
- Gift card or trade-in offer: Valuable, but not the same as an unconditional price reduction.
Best Buy’s reported $1,800 saving on a 77-inch LG C5 illustrates the distinction. The television was listed at $1,899.99 against a $3,699.99 displayed comparable value. That records what Best Buy showed, but it does not prove shoppers normally paid $3,699.99. The figure should therefore be called an advertised or displayed saving.

Amazon
Amazon offered strong Apple and accessory pricing, but prices and coupons could change quickly. Multiple sellers might list the same product with different condition, warranty and fulfillment terms. A low price should be tied to the exact seller and configuration, not merely the product title.
Best Buy
Best Buy combined new products with open-box inventory, installation services and trade-in options. Open-box and refurbished products need separate labels. Membership fees, protection plans, delivery and installation can change the final cost, while “comparable value” can make the apparent savings look larger than the product’s normal market discount.

Walmart
Walmart was aggressive on TVs, tablets, laptops and inexpensive accessories. Marketplace listings, however, may come from third-party sellers. Check who sells and fulfills the item, the condition, warranty provider and return policy. An unusually cheap laptop may also have a weak processor, limited memory or a small SSD.
Apple
Apple’s own store was useful for confirming model generations, specifications and warranty coverage, but third-party retailers generally supplied the deepest Memorial Day cash discounts. Apple promotions may instead take the form of education pricing, gift cards, financing or trade-in value.
Checklist for evaluating a technology deal
- Confirm the exact model number and generation. A C4 and C5, or different iPad generations, are not interchangeable.
- Match the complete configuration. Compare the same memory, storage, screen size, processor, connectivity and panel type.
- Check condition. New, open-box, refurbished, restored and marketplace inventory should never be blended together.
- Identify the seller. Review fulfillment, warranty responsibility and return terms.
- Check price-history evidence. A small discount may not be unusual outside the holiday.
- Calculate the total cost. Include installation, shipping, subscriptions, cellular service, accessories and storage upgrades.
- Confirm compatibility. Check phone, operating system, smart-home platform and gaming-console requirements.
- Decide whether to buy or wait. A current model at a documented low can justify buying; a small discount on an aging or underpowered product may be worth postponing.
What was not necessarily a bargain
Low-cost accessories such as AirTags, basic earbuds, smart plugs and individual bulbs were useful supporting deals, but they rarely justified a “save hundreds” claim. The same was true of budget laptops with inadequate specifications and phone promotions advertised as “free” when they required a new line, qualifying plan, trade-in and years of bill credits.
For personal-finance purposes, the most important distinction is between money you do not have to spend and value you receive under conditions. A $150 instant discount is not the same as a $150 gift card, and a trade-in credit is not the same as a lower cash price.
Bottom line
The strongest Memorial Day 2025 technology bargains were large televisions, gaming computers, premium Apple configurations and selected current-generation laptops. The M4 MacBook Air, discounted Apple Watch Series 10 and LG C4 OLED were among the more compelling deals because the products themselves remained useful—not merely because the advertised markdown was large.
But the biggest displayed savings required the most skepticism. Verify the exact configuration, distinguish new from refurbished or marketplace inventory, and treat “comparable value” as a retailer claim rather than proof of a normal street price. Since these Memorial Day 2025 offers are expired, use the historical prices as benchmarks—not as current availability or a reason to buy an unsuitable product.
