The June snapshot covered everything from a basic Chromebook to premium MacBooks. For a finance-minded buyer, the lowest price was not automatically the best value: a $299 Windows laptop with an SSD may be more useful over several years than a $139 Chromebook with limited storage.

Best overall: Apple M3 MacBook Air for $699
The M3 MacBook Air was the strongest all-around pick in the June roundup. Laptop Mag gave it a 4.5/5 review score and reported roughly 15 hours of battery life in testing. At $699 instead of $899, it offered a relatively long useful life, strong everyday performance and the benefit of Apple’s long-term software support.
#1 Best Overall
- BUILT FOR COLLEGE. AND BEYOND — MacBook Air with the M5 chip packs blazing speed and powerful AI capabilities into an incredibly portable design. And with up to 18 hours of battery life,* this thin and light powerhouse is ready to take on almost any major, just about anywhere.
- TEAR THROUGH TOUGH ASSIGNMENTS — With its faster CPU and unified memory, the M5 chip delivers even more performance and fluidity across apps, making multitasking and creative workflows smooth and responsive. A powerful Neural Engine and next-generation GPU with Neural Accelerators give you a powerful platform for AI.
- MAKE QUICK WORK OF YOUR TO-DO LIST — Apple Intelligence helps you write, express yourself, and get things done effortlessly — whether it’s for school or everyday life. With groundbreaking privacy protections, it gives you peace of mind that no one else can access your data — not even Apple.*
- UP TO 18 HOURS OF BATTERY LIFE — MacBook Air delivers incredible battery life with amazing performance, so you can power through a full day of classes without worrying about plugging in.
- A BRILLIANT 13.6-INCH DISPLAY* — The gorgeous Liquid Retina display on MacBook Air supports 1 billion colors, making photos and videos pop with rich contrast and sharp detail, and text appears supercrisp. So everything — from class presentations to movies to games — looks truly stunning.
It is not the cheapest option, and buyers should still check the exact memory and storage configuration. But if the laptop will be used daily for work, college or a small business, the higher upfront cost may be easier to justify than replacing a very cheap machine after a short period.
Best options under $500
Acer Aspire 3: $299
The Acer Aspire 3 was one of the more practical low-cost Windows choices. Its listed configuration included an AMD Ryzen 3 7320U processor, 8GB of RAM, a 128GB SSD, a 15.6-inch 1080p display and Windows 11.
The 128GB drive is not generous, but an SSD should feel more responsive than the eMMC storage commonly found in entry-level Chromebooks. This is the better category to consider if you need conventional Windows software, Microsoft desktop applications or compatibility with peripherals that do not work well with ChromeOS.
Asus Vivobook 14: $349
The Asus Vivobook 14 was listed at $349, down from $599. The advertised configuration had a Core i5-1334U, 12GB of RAM, a 256GB SSD, a 14-inch 1080p screen and Windows 11 Home. On paper, that made it a particularly compelling productivity deal: more memory and storage than the $299 Aspire 3 without moving far beyond a $300 budget.

- FOUR STUNNING COLORS. ONE DURABLE DESIGN — Choose from four beautiful colors — Silver, Blush, Citrus, or Indigo — each with a color-coordinated keyboard. And MacBook Neo is made with a durable recycled aluminum enclosure that helps it reach 60 percent recycled content by weight — the most ever in any Apple product.*
- FLY THROUGH EVERYDAY ASSIGNMENTS — Whether you’re cramming for finals, using Apple Intelligence* to summarize class notes, creating presentations, or even playing the latest Apple Arcade game,* MacBook Neo delivers the performance and AI capabilities you need to get things done.
- UP TO 16 HOURS OF BATTERY LIFE — MacBook Neo delivers all day battery life, so you can power through from early morning classes to late night study sessions without worrying about plugging in.
- A VIBRANT 13-INCH DISPLAY* — The gorgeous Liquid Retina display on MacBook Neo supports 1 billion colors, so photos and videos pop and text is crisp for easy reading.
Lenovo Chromebook 3i: $269
The Lenovo Chromebook 3i was listed at $269, reduced from $399. It included a 15.6-inch 1080p touchscreen, Intel Celeron N6000, 4GB of RAM, 128GB of eMMC storage and ChromeOS.
This makes sense for browser-based work, streaming and Google Workspace. It is less suitable for demanding applications or anyone who expects to install Windows software. ChromeOS also changes the storage calculation: 128GB of eMMC is not equivalent to a 128GB SSD in speed or general-purpose flexibility.
Lenovo Chromebook Duet 11 Gen 9: $299
The Duet 11 Gen 9 was advertised at $299, down from $359. Its listed features were a 10.95-inch 2K touchscreen, MediaTek Kompanio 838, 4GB of RAM, 64GB of eMMC storage and ChromeOS. The keyboard folio was included.
Its appeal is portability rather than raw performance. The small screen and 64GB storage limit it as a primary computer, but it can be a sensible secondary device for travel, reading and light online work.

What the $139 laptop really meant
The headline price referred to an HP 14-inch Laptop at Best Buy. The June 16 listing described a reduction from $199 and said the offer ended June 17, 2025. It should be treated as a basic Chromebook-level deal, not as a typical Windows laptop or MacBook bargain.
There is an important model-identification problem. A separate Laptop Mag Memorial Day article described an HP 14-inch Chromebook at $139, with a 14-inch 1366×768 display, Intel Celeron N4500, 4GB of RAM and 64GB of eMMC storage, but gave a different previous price of $349. Those descriptions should not be merged. Anyone evaluating that deal should confirm the Best Buy SKU or model number, operating system, storage type and return terms.
At this price tier, expect compromises: limited memory, modest processors, low storage capacity and potentially shorter useful life. It can be a good emergency replacement or homework machine, but buying the cheapest laptop may be false economy if you need Windows applications or local storage.
Premium deals worth considering
The M4 MacBook Air 13 was listed at $849, down from $999, while the 15-inch version was $1,049, reduced from $1,199. The smaller model is easier to carry; the 15-inch model charges more for screen area rather than necessarily changing how everyday tasks feel. Compare the exact RAM and storage before paying the premium.

The M4 MacBook Pro 14 appeared at $1,429, down from $1,599. It is the more sensible choice for sustained professional workloads, but not for ordinary browsing and documents if an Air meets your needs.
The Lenovo Yoga Book 9i fell to $1,549 from $1,999. The listed base configuration used a Core Ultra 7 155U, 16GB of RAM and a 1TB SSD, along with dual OLED displays. Its unusual design can be valuable for a narrow group of mobile professionals, but the discount alone does not make it a financially efficient choice for routine laptop use.
How to evaluate a laptop sale before paying
- Confirm the exact model. Retailer listings often group several configurations under one family name. Check processor, RAM, storage, screen resolution and operating system.
- Compare the price, not just the claimed discount. A “was” price is less useful than the current price of comparable laptops. In this snapshot, the $349 Vivobook’s listed specifications were more informative than its claimed $250 reduction.
- Match the operating system to your software. Chromebooks are generally suited to browser-based work. Windows is the safer choice for broad software compatibility. MacBooks require comfort with macOS and Apple’s ecosystem.
- Budget for accessories. A mouse, case, USB-C hub or external storage can add $30 to $150. Check whether a Chromebook’s keyboard is included; the Duet Gen 9 listing included its keyboard folio.
- Check warranty and returns. A low sale price is less attractive if the return window is short or the seller is not the retailer you expected.
- Use coupons carefully. The Lenovo ThinkBook 16 Gen 8 was listed at $804 from $1,009 with the codes
SAVEONTHINKBOOKandBUYMORELENOVO. The deal information did not clarify whether both codes were required or applied under separate conditions, so test the cart total before assuming the advertised price.
Which deal made the most financial sense?
For a strict budget, the Acer Aspire 3 or Asus Vivobook 14 offered a more flexible starting point than the $139 HP listing because they were Windows machines with SSD storage and, in the Vivobook’s case, 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. For browser-only use, the Lenovo Chromebook 3i was a reasonable middle ground.
For a primary computer expected to last several years, the $699 M3 MacBook Air was the clearest value pick in the roundup. The right decision depends on whether you need Windows, ChromeOS or macOS—and whether the cheaper machine will actually handle your work.

FAQ
Was the $139 HP laptop a Windows laptop?
The June 16, 2025 roundup called it an HP 14-inch Laptop but did not provide enough information to establish the exact model with certainty. A separate article described an HP 14-inch Chromebook with different specifications and a different previous price. Confirm the retailer SKU and operating system before buying.
What was the best laptop deal under $500?
The $349 Asus Vivobook 14 was one of the strongest documented options because it was listed with a Core i5-1334U, 12GB of RAM, a 256GB SSD and a 1080p display. The $299 Acer Aspire 3 was a cheaper Windows alternative, while the Lenovo Chromebook 3i suited browser-based work.
Was the $699 MacBook Air a good deal?
In the June 16, 2025 snapshot, the M3 MacBook Air was reduced from $899 to $699 and was the roundup’s best overall pick. Laptop Mag reported about 15 hours of battery life in testing. The exact memory and storage configuration should still be checked.
Are these laptop prices still available?
Not necessarily. These prices were recorded on June 16, 2025, and the $139 HP offer was stated to end June 17, 2025. They should be treated as historical sale prices rather than current offers.
The Bottom Line
The June 2025 deals ranged from a $139 entry-level HP listing to premium MacBooks and dual-screen laptops. The $699 M3 MacBook Air was the strongest overall value, while the $349 Asus Vivobook 14 and $299 Acer Aspire 3 were more practical Windows choices under $500. Treat the $139 figure cautiously: the available descriptions conflict, and the exact HP model must be confirmed before purchase.
