Which day is best for avoiding Costco crowds?
Brian Heiss, identified as a manager for the warehouse wholesaler, said at the opening of Costco’s Guilderland warehouse that Tuesdays are best for shoppers trying to avoid large crowds. The same local report described Friday through Monday as busier and midweek as quieter. Times Union (updated Aug. 6, 2026) reports his guidance; it is not published traffic data for Costco warehouses nationwide.
That makes Tuesday a reasonable first choice if you can pick your shopping day. If Tuesday does not work, another midweek day is a sensible alternative based on the same local observation.
What time should you go?
Heiss said crowds at the Guilderland location diminished between 6 p.m. and its weekday closing time of 8:30 p.m. That suggests trying after 6 p.m. may help at that warehouse, but the observation does not establish that evenings are quieter everywhere. Closing times and crowd patterns differ by location.

Check your warehouse’s hours before you leave
Use Costco’s warehouse locator or app to check the specific warehouse’s current schedule, holiday hours, and closures. Costco says hours can vary by location and that earlier shopping hours for Executive members may be available locally. Do not assume early access is offered at every warehouse or that it fits your membership.
Costco’s Kirkland, Washington warehouse listing illustrates the variation by showing separate schedules for Executive and Gold Star/Business members. Your own warehouse listing is the relevant one when deciding whether an early visit is possible.
