Qatar Airways leads the 2026 ranking summarized by Outlook Traveller, which compares economy seat pitch, width and how consistently those dimensions appear across an airline’s fleet. The summary reports about 31 inches of pitch and 18 inches of width on most Qatar aircraft. That is a ranking result, not a guarantee for every aircraft or seat: the space on your flight depends on its aircraft, cabin layout and row.
How the 2026 ranking compares economy seats
Outlook Traveller’s June 27, 2026 summary of a Simple Flying analysis says it used aircraft seat data from aeroLOPA and considered three factors: pitch, width and fleet consistency. It names Qatar Airways first, with Emirates and Singapore Airlines next, then discusses ANA, Japan Airlines and JetBlue. The reviewed summary does not provide the complete scoring rubric or a full airline list, so treat the order and figures as reported findings rather than a reproducible league table. Read Outlook Traveller’s ranking summary.
What pitch and width tell you
- Seat pitch is the distance from a point on one seat to the same point on the seat ahead. It is a useful legroom proxy, but it does not directly measure the clearance a particular passenger has.
- Seat width describes side-to-side room. Check how it is measured: Japan Airlines, for example, specifies width between armrests.
- Layout and row affect the experience too. A carrier-wide figure can conceal differences among aircraft, cabin versions and seats. Standard economy also should not be compared as if it were the same product as an exit-row or paid extra-legroom seat.
Airlines highlighted for spacious economy seats
The figures below are approximate ranges or descriptions in Outlook Traveller’s summary; they are not guarantees for every flight. Aircraft-specific variation matters, and the summary does not provide a complete set of measurements by aircraft.
| Airline | What the 2026 summary reports |
|---|---|
| Qatar Airways | About 31 inches of pitch and 18 inches of width across most of its fleet; some 777 and 787 aircraft vary. |
| Emirates | About 32 inches of pitch and 17.3–18 inches of width in most economy cabins, depending on aircraft. |
| Singapore Airlines | About 32 inches of pitch and typically 18 inches of width across much of the fleet; 18.5 inches on A380s. |
| ANA | Many international aircraft reportedly have 34 inches of pitch and 17–18 inches of width. Some 777-300ERs use a nine-abreast 2-4-3 layout. |
| Japan Airlines | Up to 34 inches of pitch and widths exceeding 18 inches on many international 777 and 787 aircraft. |
| JetBlue | Described as the only US carrier in the list. Most aircraft reportedly have at least 32 inches of pitch and 18 inches of width, with up to 34 inches on select A321s. |
The same summary also describes Qantas, Delta Air Lines, Turkish Airlines, Cathay Pacific, Korean Air and Air New Zealand as competitive, but does not provide a full dimension table for them.
#1 Best Overall
- CloudAir Support: This airplane seat cushion is equipped with 49 pressure reducing airbags that can evenly distribute weight, effectively reducing pressure on the coccyx and buttocks and relieving fatigue caused by prolonged sitting(✅ Correct: Inflate to 50–60% capacity; the air chamber should be full but yield noticeably when pressed by hand. On an airplane, 30–40% inflation is recommended.❌ Incorrect: Do not over-inflate until rigid; sitting on an over-inflated cushion will be uncomfortable and negate the pressure-relieving effect.)
- Built in Inflation Pump Design: Compared with other inflatable seat cushions, it does not rely on an external inflation pump and is very convenient to use. Simply press the surface inflation button repeatedly(Tip for easier inflation: Start by blowing one breath of air in, then use the manual pump to adjust the inflation level.)
- Adjustable Comfort: After inflation is complete, you can press the surface adjustment button to slowly release the gas inside the cushion to change its support. You can adjust to the best comfort according to your actual feelings(✅When storing, be sure to open the exhaust valve to release all the air.)
- Portable and Widely Used: When storing, first exhaust the air inside the cushion, then fold the cushion and put it into a storage bag. It is very portable and is an ideal companion for long-distance flights, travel, office work, driving, camping and other scenarios
- Practical Three-layer Structure Design: The smooth surface of the fabric is skin friendly and breathable. The high elasticity and durable TPU layer in the middle can withstand a weight of up to 440 pounds. Paired with a reliable non-slip bottom, it firmly grips chair surfaces and can remain stable even when it bumps or moves suddenly
Why other spacious-seat lists can name different leaders
A ranking based on the maximum pitch available on a particular aircraft answers a different question from one that weighs standard-seat dimensions and consistency across a fleet. SeatRecon’s dataset, generated October 6, 2026, covers 1,192 configurations; 494 have published pitch and 394 have published width. Those are data-coverage counts, not measures of passenger comfort.
By maximum published pitch, SeatRecon lists Royal Air Maroc’s 787 at 38 inches, Jin Air’s 777 at 36 inches and Air Premia’s 787 at 35 inches. These are configuration-level values, and SeatRecon flags some unusually high figures as typically extra-legroom or exit-row maxima. It preserves published ranges and separates extra-legroom economy from standard economy. Its figures should not be combined with the Outlook Traveller ranking as if both used the same method. See SeatRecon’s seat data.

Awards are another separate measure. Skytrax’s 2026 Best Economy Class Airline Seat list puts Korean Air first, Japan Airlines second and Singapore Airlines third. Its overall Best Economy Class Airline list instead names Singapore Airlines first, Cathay Pacific second and Qatar Airways third. Those award placements are not direct pitch-and-width measurements. Japan Airlines’ aircraft-level specifications show why a single airline-wide number can mislead. For international economy, JAL reports width between armrests and pitch as follows, while noting that some seats may vary:

JAL also says paid advance seat selection can include front-row and bulkhead seats with more legroom. Do not assume those seats are included in the base fare. Consult the airline’s current aircraft and seat information for the flight you are considering; JAL’s page is one example of aircraft-level detail. View Japan Airlines’ international economy seat information.
- Open your itinerary and identify the operating airline and aircraft type, not just the airline selling the ticket.
- Check the airline’s seat map and aircraft-specific cabin information for that flight. Look for the standard economy layout and distinguish it from exit-row, bulkhead or other extra-legroom seats.
- Compare both pitch and width where published, noting the measurement definition and any range. A pitch figure alone does not describe seat width or personal clearance.
- Check the selected row and whether choosing it costs extra. Aircraft substitutions and configuration differences can affect which seats are available.
What to take from the rankings
For a fleet-wide balance of reported pitch, width and consistency, Qatar Airways is the leader in the 2026 ranking summarized by Outlook Traveller. If you are choosing a specific flight, however, the aircraft and row matter more than the airline name alone. Treat maximum-pitch tables and airline awards as different kinds of evidence, and verify the seat details for your itinerary before paying for a seat selection.
