The seven clubs at the top of Deloitte’s 2026 Football Money League are the biggest by revenue, not proven to be football’s seven most financially stable. The report covers the 2024/25 season; it does not rank clubs by debt, liquidity or their ability to meet bills. UEFA assesses financial sustainability through several separate tests, and its latest monitoring decisions show that high revenue does not guarantee compliance.
Which seven clubs lead football revenue?
Deloitte’s 2026 Football Money League ranks clubs by revenue from matchday, broadcast and commercial activities. Its top seven are:
| Revenue rank | Club |
|---|---|
| 1 | Real Madrid |
| 2 | FC Barcelona |
| 3 | Bayern Munich |
| 4 | Paris Saint-Germain |
| 5 | Liverpool |
| 6 | Manchester City |
| 7 | Arsenal |
The ranking covers financial years ending in 2025, corresponding to the 2024/25 season. Deloitte reports that Real Madrid was the only club to exceed €1 billion in revenue in that period. The report says revenue is shaped by factors such as competition participation, stadium activity, sponsorship and retail performance. It also states that Deloitte did not audit or verify the underlying financial statements and other information for the publication.
These figures show the scale of the clubs’ income-generating operations; they do not establish which clubs can best withstand losses, service debt or pay their obligations. A club can earn a great deal and still have high costs or liabilities. The Money League is therefore useful context, not a stability league table.

What does financial stability mean for a football club?
There is no single figure in the cited sources that settles the question. A meaningful comparison would examine whether a club can pay obligations when due, manage its debt and sustain operations without relying on temporary income or repeated outside support. UEFA’s official framework groups financial sustainability into three pillars:
Solvency: can the club pay what it owes?
UEFA’s solvency controls include quarterly checks for overdue payments to other clubs, employees, UEFA, and tax or social authorities. This focuses on whether obligations are being met—not simply on how much revenue a club reports.

Football earnings: do relevant income and expenses balance over time?
The football-earnings rule compares relevant income and expenses across three monitoring periods. A multi-period view can expose a different picture from a single season’s revenue, although the rule is not by itself a full assessment of a club’s financial resilience.
Squad-cost control: how much revenue goes to football costs?
From 2025/26, UEFA’s squad-cost rule limits spending on player and coach wages, transfers and agent fees to 70% of club revenue. This is a cost-control measure, not a guarantee that a club has manageable debt or ample cash.

Why a high revenue rank is not proof of stability
UEFA’s June 30, 2026 announcement on monitoring for the 2025/26 season illustrates why revenue and compliance need to be considered separately. It said Newcastle United and Juventus did not comply with the football-earnings rule in the assessment covering financial years ending in 2023, 2024 and 2025. The announcement also said Newcastle, Aston Villa and Chelsea were among the clubs above the 70% squad-cost ratio for calendar 2025. UEFA reported settlements, fines and other consequences in connection with the monitoring.
Those findings concern specific rules, periods and UEFA monitoring decisions; they are not a complete judgment on each club’s financial health. They do show that revenue scale alone cannot establish either regulatory compliance or resilience. A club may perform differently across solvency, earnings and cost control.

What evidence would support a genuine top-seven stability ranking?
To compare clubs fairly, an analyst would need current, comparable club-level information and a consistent accounting perimeter—the entities and activities included in each set of accounts. At minimum, the comparison should disclose:
- Liquidity and overdue liabilities: available short-term resources and whether payments to clubs, staff, authorities or other creditors are overdue.
- Net debt and debt service: borrowing and other relevant debt obligations, alongside the cost and schedule of servicing them.
- Recurring operating performance: results from normal operations, separated from exceptional items such as transfer gains that may not recur.
- Owner and related-party funding: how much the club depends on financial support from owners or connected parties, and on what terms.
- Squad costs: wages, transfer costs and agent fees in relation to revenue, with the period and calculation method stated.
- Revenue durability and diversity: how dependable the club’s matchday, broadcast and commercial income is, rather than just its total for one season.
Each club’s numbers would need to cover comparable periods and be reported with their sources. Without that common evidence, assigning a defensible stability rank to seven clubs would create false precision. The Deloitte list identifies seven revenue leaders; the available UEFA monitoring information supplies selected rule assessments, not the full dataset needed to name seven stability leaders.

What football’s financial history can—and cannot—tell you
UEFA’s financial-sustainability overview provides sector-level context: it reports net losses of €1.6 billion among Europe’s top-division clubs in 2009 and a profit of €140 million in 2018. It also reports cumulative losses of €7 billion among top-division clubs following the COVID-19 shock, without assigning a more precise period to that figure in the cited passage.
These historical totals describe the sector, not any of the seven clubs above. They help explain why financial oversight matters, but they cannot substitute for current club accounts or support a present-day ranking of individual clubs.
