The 5ers Review: Scam or Good Prop Trading Firm?

The5ers appears to be an established prop-trading firm rather than an outright scam, but its accounts are high-risk performance contracts with strict rules and conditional payouts.

Verdict: The5ers does not fit the usual definition of a scam. It is a real proprietary-trading evaluation company with a long operating history, a published rule set, and many reported successful payouts. However, it is not a regulated broker, and passing an evaluation does not give you a conventional live trading account or ownership of a share of investor capital. Your fee is at risk, the rules can be strict, and the company can deny a payout when it believes the account breached its terms.

The5ers may suit an experienced trader who understands drawdown rules and can afford to lose the evaluation fee. It is a poor choice for anyone treating a “funded account” as guaranteed income, a low-risk investment, or a shortcut around the need for a verified trading edge.

What is The5ers?

The5ers is a proprietary-trading firm, commonly written as The5ers or The 5%ers. Traders pay for an evaluation or account program and trade under predefined risk limits. If they meet the firm’s conditions, they may become eligible for profit withdrawals and, in some programs, account scaling.

The important qualification is that this is generally not the same as opening a brokerage account. Prop firms typically provide simulated or demo trading environments and pay traders according to their contract and performance rules. You should read the firm’s risk disclosure before assuming that trades are being placed with real outside capital.

The5ers has offered more than one program over time, and its account sizes, targets, drawdown calculations, leverage, minimum trading days, payout conditions, and permitted strategies can change. A review that gives one permanent list of rules is likely to become outdated.

Is The5ers a scam?

There is no sound basis for calling The5ers an outright scam simply because it charges an evaluation fee or operates a simulated trading program. Those features are common across the prop-firm industry. The more useful question is whether the firm clearly discloses its rules, identifies the contracting entity, explains how breaches and payouts are handled, and has a credible record of paying eligible traders.

The5ers has been active for years and is widely known in the retail prop-trading market. That is a stronger credibility signal than a newly launched firm with no operating history. It is not, however, proof that every customer will receive a payout or that every complaint is unfounded.

The main risks are contractual and operational rather than the classic “take deposits and disappear” model associated with an unlicensed investment scam. A trader can lose the fee, fail because of a technical rule, misunderstand the drawdown calculation, or have a payout withheld after a compliance review. The firm’s terms—not a marketing headline—control the result.

How The5ers makes money

The business model normally involves selling access to evaluations or funded-style accounts. Most traders fail to meet the rules, making the fees paid by unsuccessful participants an important source of revenue. The firm may also earn from successful traders through profit-sharing arrangements or other program economics.

This model creates a conflict that every customer should understand: the firm is not simply a neutral broker charging a small commission. It decides whether the trader passed, whether a rule was broken, and whether a withdrawal satisfies the program’s conditions. That does not automatically make the model unfair, but it means the wording of the rules matters enormously.

The main advantages

Potential advantage Why it matters
Established market presence A longer operating history is preferable to an anonymous firm with no verifiable track record.
Several account formats Different programs may accommodate traders who prefer an evaluation, a quicker funded route, or a scaling structure.
Defined risk limits Rules force traders to control daily and total losses instead of treating the account as unlimited leverage.
Profit-withdrawal opportunity Eligible traders can potentially earn a share of profits without depositing a large trading balance with a broker.
Publicly available documentation Published FAQs and program terms make it possible to check conditions before paying.

These are potential benefits, not guarantees. A choice that looks attractive on a program page can become unattractive once you account for the target, spread, slippage, drawdown method, payout waiting period, and probability of failure.

Important disadvantages and risks

1. The fee is not an investment

An evaluation payment is usually a service fee, not money placed into a protected trading account. If you fail the rules, you may lose the fee. Do not use rent money, emergency savings, borrowed money, or a credit card balance to buy a challenge.

2. Drawdown rules can be misunderstood

A stated maximum loss may be calculated from the initial balance, the highest equity, the daily starting balance, or a moving high-water mark. Equity can include floating losses, commissions, and swaps. A position that has not been closed can still breach a loss limit.

Before trading, write down answers to these questions:

  • Is the daily loss limit based on balance or equity?
  • At what time does the trading day reset, and in which time zone?
  • Does the limit include open-profit reversals, commissions, and swap?
  • Is total drawdown fixed or trailing?
  • What happens if the limit is touched for only a few seconds?

3. “Funded” does not necessarily mean live capital

Prop-firm marketing often uses account balances that are much larger than the money economically at risk. The account may be simulated, and the balance may be a notional figure used to apply risk rules. That can still provide a legitimate performance-based contract, but it is not equivalent to receiving $100,000 in cash to invest.

4. Rule breaches can occur after a successful trade

Traders can reach a profit target and still fail because of prohibited conduct or a technical condition. Depending on the program, issues may include news trading, holding positions over a weekend, exploiting price-feed delays, using third-party trading services, copy trading, high-frequency activity, arbitrage, or trading during restricted periods.

  • THE 2026 EDITION, REBUILT FROM TRADER FEEDBACK: Same trusted system, better in every way. An extra daily page for more room to log the session. That review habit is the edge. You're 42% more likely to hit a goal you've written down.
  • BUILT TO LAST, ARRIVES GIFT-READY: Vegan-leather hardcover, 100gsm bleed-resistant paper, two ribbon markers and an elastic closure band. Never rely on a sales representative’s informal message when a rule is important. Save the written answer and compare it with the contract and FAQ.

5. Payouts are conditional

A profit split is not a guaranteed wage. Withdrawal eligibility may depend on a minimum number of trading days, a consistency condition, a minimum profit, a safety buffer, identity verification, and confirmation that no rule was violated. Payment processing can also take longer than a trader expects.

6. Leverage magnifies mistakes

Even when the nominal account is simulated, the permitted leverage can encourage oversized positions. A trader who risks the maximum allowed amount on every trade may have little room for ordinary spread widening or slippage. The sensible approach is to risk well below the firm’s loss limit.

Is The5ers regulated?

The5ers should not be treated as a regulated stockbroker, bank, or investment manager merely because it offers trading accounts. A prop-firm customer generally does not receive the same protections associated with a regulated broker, such as segregated client money, formal investor compensation, or a regulator handling an ordinary payout dispute.

Check the exact legal entity named in the checkout page, terms of service, and payment receipt. The brand name alone is not enough. Also check whether the firm accepts customers in your country and whether your local rules affect payments or trading-related services.

What traders should check before paying

  1. Read the exact program rules. Do not rely on a YouTube review or an old comparison table.
  2. Calculate the real loss limit. Convert the percentage into a currency amount and include open trades, fees, and possible slippage.
  3. Check prohibited strategies. Look for language covering news, overnight positions, weekends, copy trading, expert advisors, latency arbitrage, and account sharing.
  4. Review payout conditions. Confirm the first withdrawal date, minimum amount, profit split, consistency rules, verification requirements, and payment method.
  5. Check the refund policy. Find out whether a fee is refundable, when the right expires, and whether a chargeback can terminate your account.
  6. Test support before purchase. Ask a specific rules question and keep the answer in writing.
  7. Use a payment method carefully. Keep invoices, screenshots of the rules, trade records, and all support correspondence.

Who might consider The5ers?

The5ers is more defensible for a trader who already has a tested strategy, can follow a fixed daily loss limit, understands the platform, and views the fee as disposable. Such a trader should begin with the smallest sensible program and avoid increasing size merely because a larger nominal account is available.

It is unsuitable for a beginner who has not demonstrated profitability on a demo account. It is also unsuitable for a trader whose strategy depends on unrestricted news trading, weekend exposure, martingale sizing, grid systems, latency differences, or holding through events that the program restricts.

Alternatives to buying a prop challenge

A trader can first use a regulated broker’s demo account to test whether the strategy survives realistic spreads and execution. Another option is a small personal account with money that can be lost without affecting essential expenses. These alternatives do not offer the same nominal buying power, but they avoid evaluation fees and prop-firm-specific rules.

If you compare The5ers with another prop firm, compare the complete contract rather than the advertised profit split. A lower fee with a trailing drawdown may be more expensive in practice than a higher fee with a fixed drawdown. The relevant measure is the amount you can lose and the probability that your strategy can operate inside the rules.

Final assessment

The5ers appears better described as a genuine, high-risk prop-trading business than as a proven scam. Its history and visibility distinguish it from an unknown firm, but they do not remove the risks of simulated trading, conditional payouts, strict drawdown rules, changing programs, or limited consumer protection.

Do not buy based on the account size or profit split. Read the current terms, model the drawdown in dollars, confirm the payout process, and assume that the evaluation fee can go to zero. For a disciplined trader with a verified edge, The5ers may be worth comparing with other established firms. For a beginner or anyone seeking dependable income, it is not a good financial product.

FAQ

Is The5ers legitimate?

The5ers is an established prop-trading company and is not automatically a scam because it charges evaluation fees. Its programs still involve substantial contractual and financial risk, and legitimacy does not guarantee that every trader will pass or receive a payout.

Does The5ers give traders real money?

You should not assume so. Prop-firm accounts are often simulated or demo environments, with payouts governed by the firm’s contract. Check the current risk disclosure and terms before treating an account as access to live investor capital.

Can you lose money with The5ers?

Yes. You can lose the evaluation or account fee if you breach the rules or fail to meet the required performance conditions. You can also lose money indirectly through repeated challenge purchases.

Does The5ers guarantee payouts?

No. Payouts are conditional on meeting the applicable profit, trading-day, consistency, verification, and risk rules. The current program terms determine eligibility.

Is The5ers regulated like a broker?

You should not treat it as a regulated broker simply because it provides trading software or account balances. Review the legal entity and regulatory disclosures, and do not assume broker-style client-money or compensation protections apply.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

What is the safest way to try a prop firm?

Use only money you can afford to lose, start with the smallest suitable program, read the current rules, test your strategy on demo first, and save screenshots and written support responses. Never use borrowed money or essential household funds.

The Bottom Line

Bottom line: The5ers is not best classified as a scam, but it is not a low-risk investment or a guaranteed income source. Treat it as a fee-based, rules-heavy performance contract. Only proceed if you understand the current drawdown and payout terms and can afford to lose the entire fee.
