The best swing depends on what will make it useful in your home: the UPPAbaby Mamaroo Smart Swing was The Bump’s overall pick, the Ingenuity Comfort 2 Go was its budget choice, and the Munchkin Swing was its travel pick. The Bump’s review, updated February 6, 2026, tested nine swings with nine families and named five winners—not ten. The comparison below covers those five, so it does not claim that ten models were independently tested.
How the parent testing worked
Nine parents tried swings with babies from newborn to 5 months in everyday situations that included soothing, chores and travel, as well as homes with pets, toddlers and limited space. They scored each product from 1 to 10 on eight criteria: ease of use; portability and storage; motion quality; additional features; baby reaction; design and quality; ease of cleaning; and value. Two board-certified pediatricians were interviewed for safety context. This is a parent-tested comparison, not a guarantee that a particular motion will soothe every baby. Which swing is the best fit for your household?
For a fussy newborn: start with the Mamaroo, but expect to learn what your baby prefers
The Mamaroo offers the widest stated range of motion among these picks, making it the most flexible option to try if you do not yet know what kind of movement your baby likes. The Bump tester reported that an 11-week-old settled for 20 minutes during one session. That is one family’s experience, not a typical result or a guarantee. Dina DiMaggio Walters, MD, a board-certified pediatrician and AAP spokesperson quoted by The Bump, said: “Most I find like side to side or up and down, but there is no one ‘it’ motion.” A baby who dislikes movement may not benefit from a swing; you do not need to keep one that your child does not tolerate.
For the lowest listed price: consider the Comfort 2 Go
Among these five, the Comfort 2 Go had the lowest listed price and the clearest combination of lightweight portability, flat folding and a washable pad. The Bump tester reported six-minute, tool-free assembly and smooth motion. If you need a swing that plugs in, or want side-to-side movement, this model’s battery power and front-to-back motion may not suit your preferences.

For a home with pets or a toddler: treat elevation as a buffer, not protection
The Winnie the Pooh model’s elevated seat was useful to its tester in a home with dogs and a 2½-year-old. Height can create some distance from household activity, but it does not make a swing a safe place to leave a baby unattended or within reach of a child or pet. Its seat also does not lock when switched off, and its lap bar does not pivot—limitations worth considering when handling the baby.
For room-to-room use: check the folded footprint first
The Inlighten’s wheels and remote are aimed at moving and operating it around the home, but its large footprint even when folded may make it awkward in a small room or storage area. Consider where it will stand and where it will go when not in use, rather than relying on wheels alone to make it a compact choice.
Rank #3
- Compact baby swing designed to save space in the home, making it ideal for any room
- Carry handle makes it easy to move from room to room
- Easy, compact fold to store between uses or when extra space is needed in the home
- Adjustable swinging speeds allow you to find the right pace
- Overhead toy bar with 2 soft toys to keep baby entertained
For travel: decide whether flat disassembly beats a low seat
The Munchkin packs into two flat pieces and was the review’s travel pick. Its low seat can be less convenient for lifting a baby in and out, and the mobile is sold separately. The review reports its weight and packed form, but does not establish that it is suitable for every vehicle, airline or destination; check your travel setup before relying on it as portable gear.
How to choose without overbuying
- Choose the motion your baby accepts. There is no universally soothing direction or pattern, so features and speed options are not a promise of success.
- Match the format to your actual space. A folding frame, wheels and flat disassembly solve different storage and transport problems; compare the folded footprint with the place you intend to keep the swing.
- Check the power source where you will use it. The models listed here differ in battery and plug-in power. For the Inlighten, the battery is for vibration while the swing uses plug-in power.
- Use the weight limit and product label, not a guessed age window. The listed capacities vary, and the review details here do not establish a single age-based cutoff. Follow the specific model’s instructions, restrictions and warnings.
- Weigh convenience against a short-use purchase. The Bump’s pediatrician guidance favors short sessions. If you are unsure whether your baby will tolerate a swing, consider borrowing one or checking a retailer’s return policy before paying for extra features.
Can a baby sleep in a swing?
No. A swing is not a safe sleep surface, even if the baby falls asleep while being soothed. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission says inclined products with an angle greater than 10 degrees—including swings—should never be used for infant sleep. Its guidance also says not to leave a baby unsupervised in a product not designed for safe sleep. The American Academy of Pediatrics’ 2025 update advises using a crib, bassinet or portable play yard with a firm, flat mattress and fitted sheet, and avoiding sleep in a swing or other seating device.

The ASTM F2088-24 warning reproduced in the 2026 Federal Register says: “Stay near and watch baby during use. This product is not safe for sleep or unsupervised use. If baby falls asleep, remove baby as soon as possible and place baby on a firm, flat sleep surface.” Follow the product’s manual, keep the baby supervised, and move a sleeping baby to an appropriate sleep surface as soon as possible.
Quick Recap
Safety checks before and during use
Before buying
- Check the swing’s model label, current instructions and current recalls. In 2026, the CPSC warned consumers to stop using Bimuva Infant Swings because of suffocation risks and violations of the mandatory standard; that warning concerns Bimuva, not the five picks in this comparison.
- In the United States, infant and cradle swings are governed by 16 CFR part 1223, which incorporates ASTM F2088. CPSC guidance says products manufactured after September 14, 2024 must meet ASTM F2088-24. The requirements cover matters including structural integrity, stability, restraints, labeling, registration and certification.
- Confirm the listed weight limit and any model-specific age, position or use restrictions on the product itself. The capacity numbers in the comparison are not substitutes for those instructions.
During use
- Place the swing on a flat floor, away from cords and other hazards, and use the harness as directed.
- Stay close and watch the baby. Keep toddlers and pets from interfering with the swing; an elevated seat does not replace supervision.
- For infants under 4 months, The Bump’s pediatrician guidance advises using a more reclined position. Make sure the baby’s neck remains stable and the chin is not bent toward the chest: Walters warned that neck bending can compromise the airway.
- Keep sessions short and do not use the swing for sleep. If the baby falls asleep, transfer them to a firm, flat sleep surface.
