American Airlines operated the most scheduled flights in the global September 2026 ranking, averaging about 6,182 one-way flights per calendar day. United, Delta, Southwest and Ryanair round out the top five. The daily figures below are averages calculated from each airline’s monthly schedule—not counts of flights completed on every day.
The five airlines with the most scheduled daily flights
OAG’s global scheduled-flight table reports monthly totals for September 2026. Dividing each total by the month’s 30 calendar days gives the approximate daily averages below; OAG reports the monthly counts, not these averages.

OAG defines its flight-frequency counter as one-way flights in the schedule. The ranking therefore compares scheduled flight movements, not passengers, seats, revenue, destinations, punctuality or overall airline size. OAG’s airline frequency and capacity statistics explains its counting approach.
What the daily averages do—and do not—tell you
They describe a month’s schedule, not a daily guarantee
The averages smooth out differences between days. Airlines change schedules by date and season, and a listed flight may be changed or canceled; these figures do not establish how many flights actually operated on a particular day.

For example, American Airlines said it had 6,995 flights on July 17, 2026, its most-traveled day of that summer. That airline-reported peak-day figure is not directly comparable to the September monthly average of about 6,182 per day. American’s summer 2026 announcement describes that period and peak day.
Rankings depend on the period and counting method
Other rankings can use a different geography, period, unit of analysis or data method. EUROCONTROL’s 2025 European snapshot, for instance, lists Ryanair as the busiest aircraft operator group in its regional ranking, with 3,184 daily flights. That regional figure is not a substitute for OAG’s global September 2026 monthly-schedule comparison. EUROCONTROL reports 30,474 average daily flights across its area. AeroCorner’s page, updated October 6, 2026, also names these five airlines, but its displayed daily totals are materially higher than the averages calculated from OAG’s monthly table. AeroCorner says it compiles active route observations and airline schedule datasets and counts directional service frequency. Its results should not be combined with OAG’s figures as if both providers used an identical method. AeroCorner’s daily-flight ranking describes its approach.
