The 2026 Managed Service Provider 500: Official List, Categories and Buyer’s Guide

The 2026 Managed Service Provider 500 is CRN’s annual list of 500 North American managed service providers (MSPs) and managed security service providers (MSSPs). It is divided into the Elite 150, Pioneer 250 and Security 100—not presented by CRN’s public directory as one overall ranking from No. 1 to No. 500.

Open CRN’s official 2026 MSP 500 directory to search for a company, confirm its category and review its profile. Treat inclusion as a useful discovery and recognition signal, not as proof that a provider is the cheapest, most secure or best fit for your organization.

What is the 2026 CRN MSP 500?

The CRN MSP 500 is an annual industry-recognition project covering North American MSPs and MSSPs. CRN describes the companies as providers and consultants whose managed-services approaches demonstrate innovation and growth in the IT channel.

The official list combines an editorial feature, a searchable provider directory and company profile information. The public directory contains 500 organizations across three categories:

#1 Best Overall
Forvencer Server Book, 2 Zipper Pocket, Server Books for Waitress
  • Upgraded Two Zipper Pockets: Forvencer server books feature two secure zipper pockets for better organization of coins, cash, and receipts, ensuring that everything you collect has a safe and secure place
  • Smart Storage & Quick Access: Designed with 8 multi-functional compartments, the right side includes a guest receipt pad, while the left has a money pocket, ticket pocket, and credit card slot. Two small clear pockets store bills, receipts, and other visible items. A stitched pen loop ensures you always have your favorite pen ready
  • High-quality & Easy to Clean: Crafted from high-quality PU leather with heavy-duty stitching, this server book is built to last. It resists tears, scratches, and its waterproof surface makes cleaning easy with just a damp cloth or a non-chlorine sanitizer
  • Perfect Fit for Your Apron: Measuring 5” x 8”, this compact organizer is slightly smaller than other models, making it ideal for bending or sitting while carrying in your server apron. It holds everything a waitress needs—a place for everything
  • What's Included: This server organizer comes with multiple open and zippered pockets to store money, receipts, tips, etc. Clear sleeves are perfect for keeping menus or special lists while serving. Available in a variety of colors, allowing you to express yourself even when in uniform
  • Elite 150: 150 providers with broad managed-services portfolios serving primarily midmarket and enterprise customers.
  • Pioneer 250: 250 providers whose business models are largely focused on SMB customers.
  • Security 100: 100 providers emphasizing cloud-based security services.

These categories total 500 companies. The official directory does not display a single universal score or an overall rank order that places every provider from first through 500th.

Find the complete official list

Use CRN’s main 2026 MSP 500 page for the list and category definitions. CRN also provides a detailed directory with profile information.

  1. Open the official directory.
  2. Search for the provider’s name or filter by category.
  3. Confirm the provider’s category and previous placement, if shown.
  4. Review its location, stated business model and company description.
  5. Use the provider’s own website and LinkedIn page to continue your research.
  6. Independently verify services, geography, support coverage, certifications, references and contract terms.

Searching CRN’s directory is more reliable than relying on a provider’s press release or a third-party repost. Provider announcements can confirm recognition, but the official CRN directory is the better place to check inclusion and category.

What the three categories mean

Category Companies Primary emphasis Typical buyer
Elite 150 150 Broad hybrid, cloud and managed-services capabilities with a midmarket or enterprise orientation Midmarket and enterprise organizations
Pioneer 250 250 SMB-focused managed IT, cloud, productivity, support and security services Small and midsize businesses
Security 100 100 Cloud-based security-services expertise Organizations prioritizing managed security

Source: CRN’s category definitions.

Elite 150

Elite 150 providers are best understood as broad-service companies oriented toward more complex hybrid, on-premises and cloud environments. They may be relevant when a buyer needs integration, governance, enterprise service delivery, multi-cloud operations or large-scale infrastructure support.

Being in the Elite 150 does not guarantee that every provider is suitable for every enterprise. Confirm the provider’s experience with your platforms, industry, geography, compliance requirements and operating scale.

Pioneer 250

Pioneer 250 providers are primarily SMB-focused. Their offerings may include help desk support, endpoint management, Microsoft 365 or Google Workspace administration, cloud services, backup and strategic IT guidance. Some may be highly local or regional.

“SMB-focused” is a market orientation, not a guarantee that a provider serves only small companies or cannot support a larger customer.

Security 100

Security 100 providers emphasize cloud-based security services. Individual offerings can differ substantially: one company may focus on managed detection and response, another on cloud security, identity, compliance, endpoint protection or security consulting.

A Security 100 designation does not, by itself, prove that a provider operates a 24/7 security operations center, provides incident response or supports a particular compliance framework. Ask for a service-by-service explanation.

What appears in a company profile?

CRN’s detailed directory lists fields including:

  • Category and previous placement
  • CEO name and title
  • Location
  • Business model
  • Company description
  • Company and LinkedIn URLs
  • Factors affecting the 2026 outlook
  • The most significant change made during the previous year
  • An emerging opportunity
  • An expected challenge
  • Awards

CRN labels the detailed information “Unedited data provided by vendors.” That means company statements about growth, awards, AI, security capabilities or customer outcomes should be treated as attributed claims rather than automatically as independently verified editorial findings.

What CRN’s 2026 coverage says about the market

CRN’s accompanying coverage points to continued movement toward services-led IT. Businesses are seeking managed IT and security services while trying to control capital spending, handle multi-cloud complexity and compensate for difficulty hiring and retaining skilled technology workers.

Access, back up, organize, and share data across Windows, macOS, Android, iOS, web browsers, and compatible smart TVs—ideal for creators and advanced home users working across multiple devices.

The coverage also describes a shift beyond basic “IT-as-a-service.” Buyers increasingly want advisory services, governance, professional services and guidance that connects technology decisions to business outcomes. That distinction matters: an MSP that manages devices and tickets may not be the same as one that can advise on cloud architecture, compliance, resilience or technology strategy.

AI is an opportunity—but an ambiguous one

“AI services” can mean AI infrastructure, GPU hosting, consulting, Copilot deployment, machine-learning operations, security analytics, automated ticket triage, customer-specific large language models or AI governance. When an MSP advertises AI expertise, ask which of these it actually delivers.

Questions worth asking include:

  • Is the service consulting, infrastructure, operations, tool resale or some combination?
  • Can the provider support private or customer-specific models?
  • How are prompts, customer data, logs and model outputs governed?
  • Are AI services included in the recurring fee or billed as projects?
  • What human review is required before an AI-generated recommendation or automated action affects production systems?
  • Can the provider measure operational outcomes instead of simply describing support as “AI-enabled”?

For example, World Wide Technology’s vendor-submitted profile discusses AI and GPU-as-a-service opportunities, customer-specific LLM deployment and integration with remote monitoring and management and IT service-management systems. That is an example of one company’s positioning—not evidence that all MSP 500 members offer equivalent AI capabilities. See WWT’s profile.

Security and compliance require verification

Security-focused recognition can help identify candidates, but it does not replace due diligence. Ask whether security operations are performed in-house, whether monitoring is available 24/7, what incident-response commitments are contractual and which certifications or compliance frameworks apply to your environment.

Also examine privileged-access controls, multifactor authentication, vulnerability management, logging and retention, backup immutability, restore testing, cyber-insurance coverage and controls over subcontractors and cloud providers.

Acquisitions can expand capability—and add risk

CRN highlights acquisitions and organic expansion among MSP businesses. An acquisition can increase geographic coverage, staffing and service breadth. It can also produce inconsistent tools, support processes or account ownership while organizations integrate.

Ask whether an acquisition will change your service team, contract, escalation path, technology stack or pricing. A larger provider may have greater resources but less local attention; a smaller provider may be more responsive but less resilient during outages or staffing shortages.

How to choose an MSP from the list

Use the MSP 500 to create a candidate pool, then evaluate providers through an RFP, technical review, reference checks and contract analysis.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

1. Match the service scope to the actual need

Confirm whether the provider covers the services you require:

  • Help desk and end-user support
  • Endpoint and device management
  • Network monitoring
  • Cloud administration
  • Microsoft 365 or Google Workspace
  • Backup and disaster recovery
  • Identity and access management
  • Compliance support
  • Security monitoring and incident response
  • Strategic consulting or virtual CIO services
  • Hardware procurement and lifecycle management

2. Test customer fit

Compare providers against your organization’s size, user count, locations, industry, regulatory obligations, remote-work model, cloud platforms, internal IT staffing and growth plans. A provider that is excellent for a 40-person local business may not be equipped for a regulated, multinational environment—and the reverse can also be true.

3. Read the SLA, not just the sales summary

Require contractually defined initial response times, resolution targets, severity definitions, after-hours coverage, escalation procedures, service credits, planned-maintenance notices, outage communications and exclusions. Clarify which responsibilities remain with your staff.

4. Request security evidence

Ask for applicable certifications or attestations, employee screening practices, access controls, vulnerability-management procedures, incident-response plans, backup and restore evidence, insurance information and subprocessor controls. Do not accept a category label as a substitute for evidence.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

5. Compare the commercial model

Pricing may be per user, per device, tiered or customized. Compare minimum commitments, onboarding fees, project charges, after-hours rates, hardware and software markups, contract length, annual increases, termination assistance and data-export obligations.

CRN’s list material does not provide a standardized price comparison. Obtain comparable proposals directly from providers and make sure each proposal includes the same service scope.

6. Check operational transparency and exit terms

Ask which monitoring, ticketing, asset and configuration tools the MSP uses; who owns the data; whether you can export it at termination; how often business reviews occur; whether you receive a named technical account manager; and how much work is performed by subcontractors or offshore teams.

The contract should explain transition assistance, documentation delivery, credential handling, data deletion and the cost of leaving. An attractive monthly fee can become expensive if the exit process is unclear.

What the MSP 500 does not tell you

Inclusion does not, by itself, prove:

  • The lowest price
  • The fastest response or resolution times
  • The highest customer satisfaction
  • The strongest security controls
  • Superior uptime or resilience
  • Suitability for your geography or technology stack
  • A specific staffing ratio or support model
  • Compliance with your required framework
  • Favorable contract terms
  • Absence of complaints, outages or service failures

The public material also does not appear to standardize pricing, SLA performance, employee or customer counts, security audit results, geographic coverage, tool-stack compatibility or customer-satisfaction data. Use those gaps to shape your questions rather than assuming the recognition answers them.

CRN MSP 500 vs. Channel Futures MSP 501

Do not confuse CRN’s 2026 MSP 500 with Channel Futures’ separately produced MSP 501. They are different recognition programs with different category structures and, based on published program descriptions, different evaluation approaches. Placement on one list does not automatically predict placement on the other.

When comparing the programs, verify the methodology and scope for the relevant year rather than treating “500” and “501” as competing versions of the same ranking. A provider announcement discussing the Channel Futures program can provide context, but it is not the CRN list itself. See the example discussion at Fisch Solutions.

How to interpret the list as a buyer

The most sensible use of the 2026 MSP 500 is as a structured starting point:

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  1. Filter for the category that best matches your organization.
  2. Shortlist providers with the right geography, service scope and customer profile.
  3. Ask each finalist for a proposal using identical requirements.
  4. Validate security, staffing, references, SLA terms and exit provisions.
  5. Select the provider that offers the strongest documented fit—not simply the most prominent recognition.

CRN’s list can reduce the time required to discover potential providers. It cannot determine whether an MSP will protect your data, meet your response targets or deliver value under your specific contract.

Product prices and availability are accurate as of the date/time indicated and are subject to change. Any price and availability information displayed on Amazon at the time of purchase will apply.
