If you timely requested an extension for your 2025 federal individual income tax return, the usual extended filing deadline is October 15, 2026. But an extension does not give you more time to pay, and the $45 TurboTax Deluxe price in the headline is not supported by the official product pages reviewed on October 8, 2026. Those pages listed Desktop Deluxe at $80 and online Deluxe at $79 for federal preparation; state charges differ.
Who has a federal tax deadline on October 15?
For most calendar-year filers who requested an automatic extension by April 15, 2026, October 15, 2026 is the deadline to file a 2025 federal individual return. The IRS says the extension adds time to file, not time to pay. IRS extension guidance explains the distinction.
The usual April 15 deadline applied to most calendar-year filers who did not obtain an extension. Different dates or relief may apply to disaster-area taxpayers, certain people abroad, fiscal-year filers, and some military situations. Check the IRS guidance that applies to your circumstances rather than assuming October 15 covers everyone.
Does an extension give you more time to pay?
No. Any tax due was generally still due by the original deadline. The IRS advises estimating your tax, subtracting payments already made, and paying the remaining balance by that deadline to avoid or reduce penalties and interest. Filing by October 15 does not erase charges that may have accrued on an unpaid balance.

Can you request a new extension now?
For a tax-year 2025 return, the IRS says the extension route through IRS Free File was available only through June 15, 2026. October is therefore not a chance to request another extension for the usual October 15 deadline. The practical step for someone with a valid extension is to complete and submit the return by the applicable due date.
The IRS also identifies Free File Fillable Forms and Form 4868 as ways to request an extension when available and filed on time. For 2025 returns, the IRS says Free File guided preparation is available to taxpayers with adjusted gross income of $89,000 or less; Free File Fillable Forms are intended for people comfortable preparing their own returns. Check current eligibility and availability at the IRS extension guidance and IRS Free File page.

How much is TurboTax Deluxe?
The two official Intuit product pages reviewed on October 8, 2026 did not confirm a $45 offer. They showed different prices for different products:
| Product | Displayed price | State details |
|---|---|---|
| TurboTax Desktop Deluxe 2025 | $80 | Includes one state download; state e-file is sold separately. |
| TurboTax Do It Yourself Deluxe online | $79 for federal | State is additional. |
These are the displayed prices on Intuit’s Desktop Deluxe page and online Deluxe page, respectively, not a guarantee of the amount you will pay. Intuit says online pricing varies by product and date or time and may change. Confirm the edition, tax year, state preparation and e-file charges, eligibility, and checkout total before buying. A $45 price should be treated as an unverified offer unless the exact product and conditions are shown.

Does TurboTax Deluxe include state filing?
It depends on the version. The Desktop Deluxe 2025 page says the product includes one state download, while state e-file is an additional charge. The online Deluxe page lists a federal price and says state is additional. A state download, state-return preparation, and electronic filing of a state return are not interchangeable; check the product and checkout details for the service you need.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Should you buy Deluxe to meet the deadline?
A software purchase does not create or extend a filing deadline. Choose based on your return and the exact product terms, not the countdown alone. Intuit describes Desktop Deluxe as offering guidance for deductions and credits, including homeowner and donation features; those are vendor-described features, not a promise of a particular refund or tax result.
