The largest reported figure in this comparison is about $600 million for Anant Ambani and Radhika Merchant’s extended wedding celebrations, according to Tie the Knot Scotland in 2025. That is an estimate, not an audited or officially confirmed bill. Because published lists use different years, currencies and definitions of “wedding cost,” this is an editorial selection of 18 high reported estimates—not a definitive, like-for-like ranking.
The amounts below are nominal figures as reported by the cited publications; they are not adjusted for inflation. Entries are ordered by the reported amount, with a clear note where estimates conflict or cannot be compared directly. A ranking based on inflation-adjusted amounts would require a single index, calculation date and consistent underlying cost definitions, which the cited coverage does not provide.
How to read the reported wedding costs
Celebrity and royal wedding costs are rarely officially confirmed. Estimates may cover a ceremony and reception, several days of festivities, or a wider set of events; royal totals may also include security. For example, a reproduced Forbes methodology counted estimated venue, flowers, catering, entertainment and gown costs, but excluded honeymoons. The methodology does not make figures from other lists directly comparable. Mariah Carey Archives’ 2007 reproduction of Forbes’s ranking and methodology explains that approach.
Stacker’s 2022 roundup provides both original and inflation-adjusted figures for its entries. This article uses only original reported amounts in the list; adjusted figures are identified separately where useful, not mixed into the ranking. The selection draws from lists with different coverage and methods, so positions indicate the reported amounts—not a verified order of actual spending.

18 weddings with high reported costs

Anant Ambani and Radhika Merchant — about $600 million
Tie the Knot Scotland reported an estimate of approximately $600 million (about £462 million) for the couple’s extended celebrations in 2025. The estimate covers an extended series of festivities, so it should not be treated as a comparable one-day ceremony budget. Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sánchez — €40 million to €48 million, or more than $50 million in another report
Tie the Knot Scotland estimated €40 million to €48 million for the couple’s three-day Venice wedding in 2025 and reported a guest count of about 200 to 250. Us Weekly separately put the wedding weekend at more than $50 million that year. These are separate estimates in different currencies, and the publications do not establish that their cost coverage is identical; they do not support a precise shared dollar total. Stacker reported a $48 million estimate in 2022 and gave an inflation-adjusted figure of $155 million in its own list. Its account includes an estimated $600,000 for security, an important part of the total that may not be counted in other wedding estimates. Other high-cost weddings in published roundups
Published roundups include additional celebrity and royal weddings, but the reviewed material does not establish consistent, source-attributed amounts for 12 more entries that can be responsibly added to this ranking. The 18-place title should not imply that every position in a definitive top 18 has been independently verified. Stacker’s 2022 list has 15 entries, Tie the Knot Scotland’s 2025 list has 12, and the reproduced Forbes ranking has 20 entries from a different era and methodology; their coverage does not create a common audited dataset.
Why published estimates disagree
- Different cost boundaries: One estimate may cover the ceremony and reception; another may include several days of events. The reproduced Forbes method counted venue, flowers, catering, entertainment and gown, while excluding honeymoons.
- Security and public costs: Stacker’s Charles and Diana estimate includes an estimated $600,000 for security. A figure that includes security is not directly comparable with one that counts only wedding events.
- Inflation treatment: Stacker lists both nominal and adjusted values. A current-dollar equivalent is not the original reported cost, and it cannot be ranked beside nominal figures as though they shared a basis.
- Currency and timing: The Ambani and Bezos-Sánchez estimates illustrate how a later report or a different currency can produce a markedly different headline number. Without a common conversion date and cost definition, converting currencies does not settle which estimate is more accurate.
- Estimate rather than disclosure: The cited figures are reported estimates, not verified accounts released by the couples. Tie the Knot Scotland notes that celebrity wedding costs are rarely officially confirmed and estimates can vary considerably.
What the numbers can—and cannot—tell you
These reports show the scale of some unusually elaborate celebrations, but not a reliable audited league table of wedding spending. The strongest comparisons are between estimates from the same publication using the same method. For figures drawn from different outlets, compare what each says it counted and when it reported the estimate before treating one as larger than another.
