The most expensive drink in a 2023 list from Wealthy Gorilla was a reported $148.99 “Super Venti Flat White,” described as containing 170 espresso shots. That figure is an anecdotal price reported by a secondary publisher—not a verified Starbucks record or a current menu price.
What the reported top ten actually represents
Wealthy Gorilla published its list on April 10, 2023, compiling unusually elaborate customer custom orders rather than official Starbucks menu drinks. The publisher presents these as reported prices; the list does not establish independently verified receipts, a consistent pricing method, or a current all-time record. Some customers reportedly used rewards or coupons, so a listed order total is not necessarily the amount ultimately paid out of pocket. Wealthy Gorilla’s 2023 list

Several entries are extreme custom orders built around dozens—or, as described in some cases, more than 100—espresso shots. Their names should not be read as standard drinks available to select from Starbucks’ regular menu.

Are these the most expensive Starbucks drinks ever?
The list’s top entry is the highest-priced drink in that particular 2023 compilation. It does not verify that the order holds a world record, or that no more expensive Starbucks order has been placed. There is no authoritative, independently audited all-time price record established by these sources.
Reports of costly custom orders predate the list. In May 2014, TIME described a different custom order priced at $54.75 with 60 espresso shots. That is a separate historical anecdote, not confirmation of a single record or a like-for-like price comparison. TIME’s 2014 report

How official Starbucks customization differs
Starbucks does offer ways to personalize beverages, but that does not make the 2023 challenge orders official menu items. In a July 14, 2025 announcement, Starbucks said Rewards members could find selected featured customizations in the app’s Rewards tab, select one, and have the modifications populate their order at participating stores. Its launch examples included “Cookies on top,” “Dragonfruit glow-up,” “Lemon, tea & pearls,” and “Just add white mocha.” Those were examples at launch; check the app for current availability. Starbucks’ customization guidance describes options such as choosing milk, adjusting syrup or sauce sweetness, requesting less or no whipped cream, and choosing cold foam. One dated pricing exception: Starbucks announced that company-operated stores in the United States and Canada would stop charging extra for nondairy milk beginning November 7, 2024. What to check before ordering a customized drink
- Use your local Starbucks app or menu to confirm ingredients, nutrition details, customization options and the price shown for your store.
- Check whether a featured customization is currently available at a participating location rather than assuming a past app example can still be ordered.
- Treat the shot counts in the 2023 list as descriptions in a secondary article, not verified caffeine measurements or health guidance.
