That pattern is worth understanding, but it is not proof that earnings caused each move—or that a future sell-off will recover. The same article points to accelerating revenue growth, which Nvidia’s reported results largely confirm.
What the chart says about Nvidia’s post-earnings moves
In an October 5, 2026 article, Rick Munarriz describes a chart spanning five Nvidia earnings-report moments. The chart data is attributed to YCharts. Munarriz’s reading is that Nvidia shares initially declined after four reports, but regained those losses and more by the next report; after the fifth report, the stock rose immediately. The underlying price series has not been independently recalculated here, so this is best treated as the article’s interpretation of the chart, not a verified trading rule. Read the Motley Fool article.
“After earnings” describes timing, not cause. A stock can move around a report for many reasons, including how results compare with investor expectations, company guidance, broader market conditions, and changes in valuation. A five-event sample cannot isolate those factors or establish that a decline will reverse before the following report.
Revenue growth is the stronger fundamental part of the argument
The Motley Fool article presents a sequence of year-over-year revenue growth rates from Nvidia’s fiscal quarters. Four of the five figures below are confirmed in the company’s releases; the 63% Q3 FY2026 figure is attributed to the Motley Fool article and is not independently confirmed here.

| Nvidia fiscal quarter | Revenue growth year over year | Source |
|---|---|---|

| Q3 FY2026 | 63% | The Motley Fool article, October 5, 2026; not independently confirmed here |
| Q4 FY2026 | 73% | Nvidia, February 25, 2026 |
| Q1 FY2027 | 85% | Nvidia, May 20, 2026 |
| Q2 FY2027 | 106% | Nvidia, August 26, 2026 |
These are Nvidia fiscal-quarter labels, not calendar quarters. The figures show reported year-over-year growth—not a forecast of what revenue or the share price will do next. The latest quarter in the sequence, Q2 FY2027, had reported revenue of $96.2 billion, up 106% year over year. Its Data Center business generated $89.0 billion, up 117% year over year, according to Nvidia’s results release.
What the chart does—and does not—tell a potential investor
What supports the bullish case
- The reported revenue-growth sequence rises across the five quarters presented, with the latest growth rate confirmed in Nvidia’s Q2 FY2027 release.
- Data Center revenue accounted for most of Q2 FY2027 revenue and grew faster than the company total in that quarter.
- The chart’s reported price pattern illustrates that an immediate negative reaction does not necessarily persist through the next earnings report.
What it cannot establish
- It does not show that earnings reports caused the price moves or that the same pattern will repeat.
- It does not establish whether Nvidia’s share price already reflects high expectations, or whether future customer spending, competition, or growth will support the valuation.
- It does not turn analyst estimates into actual results. Forward estimates cited by the article are expectations, not company-reported earnings.
Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang said in the company’s Q2 FY2027 release, “AI has reached its inflection point. It’s doing useful work. Its tokens are productive and profitable. Now, compute is revenue,” Nvidia’s release. That is management’s characterization of the opportunity; it is not independent evidence that demand will remain durable or that the stock will earn a particular return. The release also identifies outlook and future-market statements as subject to risks and uncertainties.

Buyback authorization is not the same as a completed repurchase
The Motley Fool article says Nvidia’s board authorized an additional $150 billion in buybacks. An authorization permits the company to repurchase shares; it does not mean the full amount has already been spent. Nvidia’s Q2 FY2027 release reported about $99.0 billion remaining under its repurchase authorization at quarter end. That remaining balance is a company-reported figure, distinct from both the article’s stated additional authorization and repurchases already completed. See Nvidia’s Q2 FY2027 release.

- Check the price history. Consult a market-data or charting service and inspect the dates and price series around each earnings release rather than relying only on a chart summary.
- Separate reported results from expectations. Compare the company’s published revenue and other results with what investors expected at the time; a strong result can still disappoint if expectations were higher.
- Read the company’s outlook as guidance, not a guarantee. Nvidia’s Q2 FY2027 release provides reported results and management outlook, while explicitly noting risks around forward-looking statements.
- Decide whether the investment fits your plan. A short historical pattern cannot replace a view on business durability, valuation, risk tolerance, and how much exposure to one company your finances can bear.
Munarriz disclosed owning Nvidia shares, and The Motley Fool disclosed that it holds and recommends Nvidia in the article. That context does not invalidate the chart, but readers should consider it when weighing the article’s bullish interpretation. The article and its disclosures.
