The often-quoted pay of about $6,000 a month comes from reporting about an earlier vacancy—not a salary Tesla states in the current listings reviewed. Check the live posting for the specific location before treating its pay or requirements as current.
Is Tesla currently offering more than $6,000 a month?
That figure is not confirmed by the current Tesla listings reviewed. A 2024 article by El Popular reported an earlier vacancy at $25 an hour and described that as roughly $6,000 per month. Tesla’s current listings reviewed here do not publish a salary, so the older hourly figure should not be treated as a current or guaranteed offer.
A monthly estimate based on an hourly rate depends on the hours worked and how a month is calculated. Without a current posted rate and schedule of paid hours, there is no reliable way to confirm a monthly amount for a particular opening. Ask Tesla or the recruiter handling the vacancy to confirm compensation and employment terms.
What does a Data Collection Operator do?
The job supports data collection for Tesla’s Optimus robotics development. Operators gather information that can help train or evaluate robotic systems; it is not simply a job walking for a set number of hours.

Tesla’s duties for the Draper, Utah vacancy include:
- Manipulating objects and carrying out tasks in Tesla facilities and public environments.
- Walking predetermined routes while wearing motion-capture equipment.
- Starting and stopping recording devices and collecting data.
- Troubleshooting minor equipment or software issues and reporting observations.
- Analyzing and uploading collected data, and writing daily reports.
How strenuous is the walking and equipment requirement?
Tesla’s Draper listing says: “Must be able to walk 7+ hours a day while carrying up to 30 lbs. of various types of equipment”. That is the requirement stated for that vacancy. It does not establish an eight-hour walking requirement for every Data Collection Operator opening.

The job also involves wearing equipment and performing repeated data-collection tasks. Anyone considering the role should read the full posting and assess whether they can meet its stated physical requirements over the scheduled workweek.
Which requirements and schedule apply?
Details vary across Tesla vacancies. The Draper posting lists a height range of 5 feet 7 inches to 6 feet and a full-time schedule of 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Sunday through Thursday. Those are details for that role, not universal requirements for every location.

Compare the live vacancy’s terms before applying or making plans:
- Location: Confirm the work site and whether duties include public environments or travel.
- Schedule: Check the listed days and hours; the Draper schedule may not match another site.
- Physical and height requirements: Read the exact limits and equipment-carrying expectations in that posting.
- Compensation: Confirm whether pay is disclosed and, if it is not, ask the employer for the rate and pay basis.
