Tencent completed its acquisition of a controlling stake in Techland, the studio behind Dying Light. Techland announced the deal as in progress on July 24, 2023; a January 2024 report later said the acquisition had been completed. The studio’s transaction adviser reported that Tencent acquired approximately 67% of its shares, while the purchase price was not disclosed.
When Tencent’s Techland deal was announced and completed
On July 24, 2023, Techland CEO and founder Paweł Marchewka announced that Tencent was “in the process of becoming Techland’s majority shareholder.” That described a transaction still underway, not a completed acquisition. Techland’s announcement

On January 10, 2024, Game Developer reported that Tencent had completed the acquisition of a controlling stake. The two dates describe different stages of the deal.
How much of Techland did Tencent acquire?

What did the deal cost?
The price was not disclosed in the sources reporting the transaction. TechCrunch’s contemporaneous coverage said the terms were undisclosed, so there is no supported figure for the amount Tencent paid. TechCrunch’s July 2023 report
What Techland said about its independence
In the July 2023 announcement, Marchewka said: “We will retain full ownership of our IPs, maintain creative freedom, and continue to operate the way we believe is right.” This was the studio’s stated commitment when it announced the partnership; the statement alone does not establish how every later decision was made.

Marchewka described the partnership as a way to advance Techland’s plans, naming the Dying Light franchise and a fantasy action RPG then in development. That announcement-day description does not establish the RPG’s current development status or show that Tencent directed either project.
