The figures were reported by MobileSyrup and included a $5 monthly autopay discount; they are a historical snapshot, not current TELUS prices.
Why did TELUS plans get more expensive after Black Friday?
MobileSyrup reported that TELUS replaced Black Friday offers with a set of higher-priced plans. The increases were not uniform: some comparisons kept the data allowance and travel geography similar, while others changed the allowance or were restricted to customers bringing their own phone (BYOP).
The contemporaneous summary from Tech Talk described the new range as about $15 above pre-sale prices. That is a broad summary, not a precise like-for-like increase for every tier.
What were the reported post-Black-Friday prices?
MobileSyrup’s December 5, 2024 report listed the following plans and comparisons. All listed monthly prices included a $5 autopay discount.

| Reported offer | Comparison in the report | Important condition |
|---|---|---|
| $105/month for 200GB 5G+ in Canada, the U.S. and Mexico | Previously $90/month | Described as TELUS’s top-line plan. |
| $95/month for 200GB 5G+ in Canada, the U.S. and Mexico | Previously $60/month | BYOP only. |
| $85/month for 175GB 5G+ | New tier; $15 above a $70/175GB plan offered November 18 | No former price for this exact tier was stated. |
| $75/month for 175GB 5G+ | Previously $55/month for 200GB | BYOP only; the earlier plan included 25GB more data. |
| $75/month for 100GB 5G+ | New tier | No prior price was stated. |
| $65/month for 100GB 5G+ | No prior price stated | BYOP only. |
| $30/month talk and text | Unchanged | No data allowance was specified in the report. |
These prices and comparisons were reported by MobileSyrup on December 5, 2024. The reported $105-to-$90 comparison for 200GB in Canada, the U.S. and Mexico, and the $85-to-$70 comparison for a 175GB plan, are the clearest same-allowance examples. The $75 BYOP comparison is not like-for-like because the earlier plan offered 200GB rather than 175GB.
Are TELUS plans more expensive now?
The figures above answer what was reported after Black Friday in 2024; they do not establish current prices. TELUS’s current plans page describes 5G Standard and 5G+ Complete options, but the page content reviewed does not provide a usable current rate table. TELUS describes current plans as unlimited, with speeds reduced to a maximum of 512 Kbps after the plan’s high-speed data threshold for the rest of the billing cycle. Its page advertises maximum download speeds of up to 250 Mbps for 5G Standard and up to 2 Gbps for 5G+ Complete; actual speeds depend on device, network, traffic and other conditions. A plan label alone does not guarantee 5G access: a compatible device and coverage are required. See TELUS’s plans page for its current terms.

For a personal-finance comparison, look beyond the headline monthly price. A BYOP offer may not be available if you are financing a phone, and a discount or roaming feature can change the total value of a plan.

- Monthly price: Check whether the displayed amount assumes autopay, and how long any discount lasts.
- Data: Compare the high-speed allowance, not just the word “unlimited.” Confirm what happens after that threshold.
- Coverage and travel: Check where talk, text and data apply. TELUS lists Easy Roam from $5 per day and says its 5G+ Complete Explore plan includes roaming in 68 destinations; terms and destination lists can change.
- Phone eligibility: Confirm whether the offer requires BYOP or allows a financed device. TELUS says an existing device balance must be paid off before it can be combined with a new 5G+ Complete plan.
- Total cost: Add the service price to any device payments and account for discounts, usage needs and travel charges.
TELUS says its newer plans separate device costs from the service plan through Easy Payment. Its page also says customers using their own phone, or paying for a phone in full, can access additional 5G Standard and 5G+ Complete deals. Check the terms shown for your account before changing plans.
