Telefónica Tech UK&I appointed Martyn Bullerwell as chief executive officer in August 2025, succeeding Mark Gorton. Bullerwell founded data and AI consultancy Adatis, later joining Telefónica Tech through its acquisition and serving as vice president of its UK&I Data & AI business.
What Telefónica Tech UK&I announced
The leadership change was reported on 13–14 August 2025 by Techerati and ITPro/ChannelPro. Bullerwell took over the UK and Ireland regional technology-services business after Gorton stepped down as CEO.
This was a regional Telefónica Tech appointment, not a change to Telefónica Group-wide leadership. The reports describe a succession focused on building on the existing business rather than announcing a restructuring or turnaround.
Who is Martyn Bullerwell?
Founder of Adatis
Bullerwell founded Adatis in 2006. The consultancy specialised in data and artificial intelligence, and Telefónica Tech later acquired it. Bullerwell then moved into Telefónica Tech UK&I, where he served as vice president of the Data & AI business.

Why his background matters
His documented experience combines founding and scaling a technology consultancy with leadership of a data and AI practice inside a larger services company. That gives him a direct connection to both specialist analytics work and Telefónica Tech’s broader enterprise-services model.
It is reasonable to interpret his appointment as giving data, AI and analytics a prominent voice at the top of the regional business. It does not, however, establish that Telefónica Tech is abandoning cloud, cybersecurity or business applications, nor does it amount to a published AI-only strategy.
What happened to Mark Gorton?
Gorton stepped down from the CEO position after three years in the role and six years with the company, according to the contemporaneous reports. He joined Telefónica Tech UK&I in 2019 as vice president of sales and marketing before becoming CEO.
Telefónica Tech credited his period of leadership with growth across cloud, cybersecurity, business applications, data and AI services. The reporting also highlights the integration of Incremental Group in 2022 as part of the company’s expansion activity.
The announcement confirms that Gorton left the CEO role, but it does not say whether he left Telefónica Tech entirely, moved to another position or retired. Those outcomes should not be inferred from the succession announcement.
What Telefónica Tech UK&I does
The business described in the coverage is an enterprise technology-services operation rather than simply a telecommunications unit. Its capabilities include:
Rank #3
- Cloud consulting, implementation and managed services
- Cybersecurity
- Business applications
- Data and artificial intelligence
- Digital-transformation work
- Microsoft ecosystem solutions
That mix is important to understanding the appointment. A data-and-AI specialist can influence the company’s positioning while still selling integrated programmes that connect analytics with cloud platforms, security controls and business software.
What the change could mean for strategy
Continuity appears to be the stated direction
Telefónica Tech said Bullerwell would use his experience in business scaling and data and AI to lead the next phase of growth in the UK and Ireland. Bullerwell said he wanted to build on the foundation established by Gorton and the existing leadership team, with customer value and sustainable growth among his priorities.

Data and AI may receive greater emphasis
Bullerwell’s Adatis background and previous Data & AI leadership make it plausible that analytics and AI will remain central to Telefónica Tech UK&I’s differentiation. The likely opportunity is to connect those capabilities to the company’s cloud, cyber and business-application work, rather than treat them as a standalone offering.
This is an interpretation of the executive profile and the quoted priorities. The published announcement did not specify new acquisitions, products, investment levels, hiring plans or geographic expansion.
The wider UK&I context
The appointment followed the reported opening of a new UK&I headquarters at 20 Fenchurch Street in London in March 2025. Techerati reported the opening, while ITPro/ChannelPro also cited the new location.

Why enterprise customers and partners may care
Customers, suppliers and channel partners should read the change as a leadership transition within a multi-disciplinary services business. The practical question is not whether Telefónica Tech will suddenly become an AI company, but how effectively it can combine data and AI with cloud delivery, cybersecurity, Microsoft technologies and business applications.
Until the company publishes a fuller plan, the clearest evidence is its stated commitment to continuity, customer value and sustainable growth, alongside a CEO whose career is strongly associated with data-led transformation.
