Three of the most consequential Pacific Northwest technology leadership changes reported on May 9, 2025, involved Microsoft AI, WatchGuard Technologies, and Hims & Hers. Mark D’Arcy joined Microsoft AI as corporate vice president and global creative director; WatchGuard CEO Prakash Panjwani moved to the board and became a strategic adviser while Vats Srivatsan took over as interim CEO; and former Amazon executive Nader Kabbani became chief operating officer of Hims & Hers.

Mark D’Arcy joined Microsoft AI to strengthen consumer positioning
Microsoft appointed Mark D’Arcy as corporate vice president and global creative director for Microsoft AI. He reported to Mustafa Suleyman, then CEO of Microsoft AI. Microsoft confirmed the appointment after it was first reported by The Information, according to GeekWire’s coverage.
D’Arcy’s background was concentrated in creative, brand, and marketing leadership rather than artificial-intelligence model research or engineering. He spent more than a decade at Meta in creative and marketing roles and nearly seven years at Time Warner, where he served as chief creative officer and later president.

His expected remit cut across engineering, design, and advertising. The goal was to help strengthen the marketing strategy for Copilot and related consumer AI products. That distinction matters: D’Arcy was not being named Microsoft’s AI chief, nor was the announcement a statement that he would oversee all Copilot product management or model development.
The appointment suggested that Microsoft viewed consumer adoption, positioning, and trust as strategic challenges alongside technical capability. Copilot had already been integrated into products including Word and Bing, while Microsoft was also promoting features such as memory across conversations. D’Arcy’s role therefore pointed to a push to make Copilot a recognizable consumer product, not only an enterprise productivity feature.
That is an interpretation of the appointment’s strategic significance, not evidence of a particular marketing campaign or a subsequent Copilot turnaround. Product lineups, reporting structures, and responsibilities may have changed after the May 2025 announcement.

WatchGuard’s CEO transition was not a complete departure
Prakash Panjwani stepped down as CEO of WatchGuard Technologies after about a decade in the role. He did not sever ties with the company: he moved to WatchGuard’s board and became a strategic adviser.
Vats Srivatsan, an operating partner at WatchGuard’s majority owner, Vector Capital, became interim CEO while the company searched for a permanent successor. The original report did not establish whether the transition was planned, performance-related, connected to a possible sale, or part of a restructuring. It should not be presented as any of those without separate evidence.
During Panjwani’s tenure, WatchGuard completed six strategic acquisitions. The most recent was its acquisition of ActZero in January 2025. The deal fit the company’s broader expansion in managed security and threat-analysis capabilities, although the available report did not disclose the purchase price or detailed integration plans.

GeekWire also reported, citing Vector Capital, that WatchGuard more than tripled its annual recurring revenue and global employee headcount during Panjwani’s tenure. Those figures are company-performance claims, not audited figures supplied with the article, so they should be understood in that context.
The leadership change created two separate questions for WatchGuard: how the company would complete its permanent CEO search and whether its acquisition-led growth strategy would continue under new leadership. The May 2025 report did not answer either question.
Nader Kabbani brought Amazon operating experience to Hims & Hers
Nader Kabbani joined Hims & Hers as chief operating officer, not CEO. He arrived after more than 18 years at Amazon, where his experience spanned health initiatives, pharmacy, logistics, and consumer operations.

His recent work included Amazon’s vaccination task force, Amazon Pharmacy, and PillPack. Earlier, he held vice president roles involving last-mile operations, logistics, and Kindle.
The relevant through-line was operational scale across health, pharmacy, logistics, and consumer services—not merely the fact that he was an “Amazon veteran.” That background could be relevant to a telehealth company managing customer acquisition, clinical and pharmacy relationships, fulfillment, and a direct-to-consumer service model. It does not, by itself, prove that Hims & Hers planned a particular expansion into pharmacy, logistics, or international markets.
GeekWire described Hims & Hers as a telehealth company offering direct-to-consumer treatments for conditions including erectile dysfunction and hair loss. Health offerings, prescription availability, regulatory status, and product positioning can change by market and over time, so that description should not be treated as a complete or current catalogue of the company’s services.

Read together, the appointments show how Seattle and the broader Pacific Northwest technology ecosystem draw talent across large technology companies, startups, venture firms, services businesses, and health companies. The pattern also suggests three themes:
- AI companies needed more than technical talent. Microsoft’s D’Arcy hire highlighted the importance of brand, creative direction, consumer trust, and go-to-market execution in addition to model development.
- Cybersecurity remained acquisition-oriented. WatchGuard’s ActZero deal and leadership transition came after a period the company described as substantial growth through acquisitions and expanded recurring revenue.
- Amazon continued to supply operating talent. Kabbani’s move to Hims & Hers illustrated how experience in logistics, pharmacy, health initiatives, and large-scale consumer operations can transfer to a technology-enabled health company.
