Dropbox completed its acquisition of Reclaim.ai on July 26, 2024, and Reclaim announced the deal publicly on August 20. Reclaim is not a replacement for Google Calendar or Microsoft Outlook. It is an AI scheduling layer that places tasks, habits, focus blocks, buffers, and meetings around the commitments already stored in those calendars.
For customers, the acquisition initially meant continued operation, support, and product development rather than an immediate migration to a new Dropbox calendar. Since then, Reclaim has continued expanding its calendar integrations and Dropbox has connected it to broader AI workflows, including a Reclaim app for ChatGPT.

The short version
- Acquisition completed: July 26, 2024, according to Dropbox’s regulatory filing.
- Public announcement: August 20, 2024.
- Purchase price: Not disclosed.
- Product: An AI calendar assistant and scheduling layer, not a standalone calendar provider.
- Supported calendar systems: Google Calendar and Microsoft Outlook.
- Customer continuity: Reclaim said at the time of the acquisition that its product, team, support, roadmap, and pricing would continue without immediate changes.
Reclaim’s purpose is to automate the difficult part of calendar management: deciding when work should happen and moving that work when the schedule changes. That can be valuable for people with frequently changing priorities, but it also means giving third-party software access to calendar data and some control over how time is blocked.
Reclaim’s acquisition announcement says the company was founded in 2019 by Henry Shapiro and Patrick Lightbody. TechCrunch reported that Reclaim had more than 320,000 users across more than 43,000 companies and had raised more than $9.5 million at the time of the announcement. Those user and funding figures are reported figures, not independently verified measurements.

What Reclaim actually does
A conventional calendar primarily records events. Reclaim tries to optimize the space between those events.
Tasks and focus time
Users can give Reclaim work to complete and a deadline to meet. The service attempts to place time blocks before the deadline, then move those blocks if meetings or other priorities change. Focus-time goals work similarly: Reclaim reserves periods for uninterrupted work instead of leaving open time to chance.
Habits
Recurring routines—such as exercise, planning, reading, or a weekly review—can be entered as habits. Reclaim looks for suitable time according to the rules and priorities the user sets.

One-click scans. No signup required.
Meetings, buffers, and scheduling links
Smart Meetings can help manage recurring meetings and conflicts. Buffer time can be placed before or after appointments for preparation, travel, or recovery. Scheduling links show bookable availability while accounting for constraints and priorities, rather than simply displaying every technically open slot.
Calendar synchronization
Reclaim can synchronize availability across connected calendars. This is useful when someone has separate work and personal schedules, but it requires care: synchronized events may create copies on destination calendars, and users need to understand which calendar is authoritative and how event privacy is handled. Reclaim describes this behavior in its calendar-sync documentation.
Reclaim’s newer product language also emphasizes automated planning, chat-based control, and specialized AI agents. Its documentation says AI or MCP changes can be staged in Preview Mode before being applied to the live calendar, which provides an additional review step for some actions.
Does Reclaim replace Google Calendar or Outlook?
No. Google Calendar or Outlook remains the underlying calendar system and source of truth. Reclaim connects to it, reads availability, and writes scheduling blocks or other events back to the connected calendar.

Reclaim supports both Google Calendar and Microsoft Outlook. Its Outlook integration became generally available on May 12, 2026, according to Reclaim’s support documentation. That makes the service relevant to Microsoft 365 organizations as well as Google Workspace users, although compatibility can still depend on tenant policies, administrator restrictions, delegated access, Teams links, categories, and free/busy settings.
Reclaim says connected personal-calendar events can appear as private busy blocks rather than exposing their details. That is a product control, not a universal security guarantee. Employers should check their organization’s third-party OAuth, data-access, and calendar policies before connecting a work account.
Why did Dropbox want an AI scheduling company?
Dropbox has not publicly disclosed a complete list of acquisition motives. The likely rationale is strategic rather than a confirmed statement from Dropbox’s deal team.

Reclaim gives it a product focused on time and coordination rather than files alone.
- Owning a high-frequency workflow: People check and update calendars constantly. Scheduling is a recurring problem with obvious opportunities for automation.
- Connecting information to action: Dropbox organizes files and work context; Reclaim acts on time, availability, deadlines, and meetings. In principle, those capabilities could connect documents, tasks, meetings, and schedules.
- Buying specialized expertise: Reclaim brought an existing scheduling product, integrations, team, and user base instead of requiring Dropbox to build that capability from scratch.
- Competing in workplace AI: Dropbox’s later announcements about AI apps and conversational workflows support the view that Reclaim fits a larger productivity strategy. That is an inference from the product direction, not a disclosed acquisition valuation or guaranteed integration plan.
Dropbox later described a Reclaim AI calendar app for ChatGPT. The app can help users add events, find meeting times, resolve conflicts, analyze productivity, search contacts, and understand their schedules. Dropbox positioned Reclaim alongside Dropbox and Dropbox Dash apps in a broader effort to bring work context and actions into conversational AI.
What changed for Reclaim customers?
The immediate change was ownership and branding: Reclaim became “Reclaim.ai from Dropbox.” Reclaim said the product, support, team, and roadmap would continue, with no immediate pricing or support changes.
That was an acquisition-period commitment, not a promise that pricing, features, branding, or account policies can never change. The more concrete later developments include the ChatGPT integration and expanded Outlook support.
Reclaim remains useful to people who do not use Dropbox. The underlying calendar integrations—not ownership of Dropbox storage—are what determine whether the scheduling product fits a user’s workflow. There is no requirement described in the supplied product information to replace Google Calendar or Outlook with a Dropbox calendar.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsHow the scheduling model works
The basic workflow is:
- Connect a Google Calendar or Outlook account.
- Set working hours, availability, priorities, buffers, and other constraints.
- Add tasks, habits, focus-time goals, meetings, or scheduling links.
- Let Reclaim identify open periods and place time blocks around existing commitments.
- Allow the system to adapt when meetings move, priorities change, or a task needs to be rescheduled.
- Review changes and adjust rules when the results do not match your preferences.
This is not a magic “schedule everything” button. The quality of the result depends on the instructions and hierarchy supplied by the user. If every task is marked urgent, working hours are unrealistic, or meeting flexibility is undefined, the system still has to make trade-offs.

A sensible starting configuration is one focus-time goal, one to three recurring habits, a single scheduling link, realistic working hours, and a small number of task integrations. Expand only after the calendar behaves predictably.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Privacy, control, and calendar clutter
The main trade-off is convenience versus access and control. Before connecting an account, check:
- Which calendars Reclaim can read and which it can write to.
- Whether copied personal events are private or show details.
- Whether coworkers can see blocked time or event titles.
- Whether your employer permits third-party calendar access.
- What happens if an account connection is revoked.
- Whether AI-generated changes can be previewed before they affect the live calendar.
Automatic scheduling can also create a busy-looking calendar filled with task, habit, focus, buffer, or synchronization events. That is not necessarily a defect—the events make the planning logic visible—but users should deliberately choose event titles, calendars, visibility settings, and scheduling windows.

Google and Outlook environments are not identical. Reclaim says its Outlook experience is designed to work similarly to Google Calendar, but an organization’s Microsoft 365 configuration can affect the result. “Supports Outlook” should not be read as a guarantee that every enterprise setup will behave identically.
Current Reclaim pricing and plan limits
The Reclaim pricing page currently displays the following plans. Pricing and limits are volatile, so confirm the live page before signing up or budgeting for a team.
| Plan | Displayed price | Notable limits or features |
|---|---|---|
| Lite | Free | One user, a one-week scheduling range, one calendar sync, one scheduling link, and limited integrations. |
| Starter | $12 per seat per month | Up to 10 seats, an eight-week scheduling range, three calendar syncs, and three scheduling links. |
| Business | $18 per seat per month | Up to 100 seats, a 12-week scheduling range, unlimited calendar syncs and scheduling links, plus team features. |
| Enterprise | Contact sales | More than 100 seats, SSO/SCIM, delegated access, organization-aware scheduling, and enterprise support. |
Reclaim offers a 14-day trial for new accounts. Its support documentation says accounts that do not upgrade can move to the free Lite plan, subject to the free plan’s limits. A promotional policy displayed on the pricing page offered free attendee users through July 31, 2026; because that date has passed, readers should not assume the promotion is still active.
For personal-finance purposes, the important question is not whether $12 or $18 per seat sounds inexpensive in isolation. It is whether the automation replaces enough manual scheduling, missed focus time, or paid administrative effort to justify a recurring subscription—and whether the free plan is sufficient for your actual calendar.
Who is Reclaim a good fit for?
Reclaim is more likely to be useful when:
- Your meetings and priorities change frequently.
- You need focus time protected automatically.
- You want tasks, habits, meetings, and personal commitments coordinated in one planning layer.
- You work across multiple Google or Outlook calendars.
- You need booking links that account for priorities and constraints.
- Your team wants shared scheduling or out-of-office coordination.
It may be a poor fit when:
- You prefer a simple calendar with manual control.
- You dislike software moving time blocks automatically.
- Your employer prohibits third-party calendar integrations.
- You need native Apple Calendar or iCloud support rather than a Google- or Outlook-based setup.
- Your schedule is mostly static.
- You need a full project-management system rather than calendar-based time blocking.
- Your team is unwilling to define priorities, working hours, buffers, and meeting flexibility.
How Reclaim compares with alternatives
| Tool | Best understood as | Key difference from Reclaim |
|---|---|---|
| Motion | A broader task, project, and calendar-planning product. | Potentially better for buyers who want project planning tightly coupled to the calendar. |
| Calendly | An appointment-booking and scheduling-link service. | Stronger for external booking workflows, but not a direct substitute for adaptive task, habit, and focus scheduling. |
| Google Calendar | A native, familiar calendar with Google Workspace integration. | Better for low-complexity, manual scheduling; it does not provide the same described optimization layer. |
| Microsoft Outlook Calendar | The native calendar foundation for Microsoft 365 organizations. | Reclaim can add AI scheduling on top, while some organizations may prefer to keep scheduling inside Microsoft’s own tools. |
| Clockwise | A historical competitor, not a current buying option. | Reclaim’s migration FAQ says Clockwise ended service on March 27, 2026. |
Bottom line
Dropbox’s Reclaim acquisition was a move into time and workflow orchestration, not the purchase of a replacement calendar provider. Reclaim remains most compelling for people whose calendars change often and who are comfortable delegating some scheduling decisions to software. It is less compelling for users who want a simple, manually controlled calendar or who cannot approve third-party access to work and personal schedules.
Reclaim’s claimed productivity benefit should also be treated cautiously. The company says it saves users an average of 7.6 hours per week, but that is a vendor-reported claim with no methodology established in the supplied material. The practical benefit will depend on the user’s schedule, priorities, privacy constraints, and willingness to maintain the rules that guide the automation.
