In a July 24, 2024 report, GeekWire described three Pacific Northwest technology leadership moves: executive changes at RFID company Impinj, Sarah Gavin’s appointment as Zendesk’s chief communications officer, and Qumulo co-founder Neal Fachan’s leadership of startup Maelstrom Software. The report’s roles and financial figures are a snapshot from that date, not confirmation of who holds those positions today.
Who did Impinj promote?
Impinj said Gahan Richardson became an executive vice president and joined the company’s executive leadership team. Chief Technology Officer Alberto Pesavento also joined that team, while Christina Balam became senior vice president of human resources and was on the team. GeekWire described Impinj as a maker of radio-frequency identification devices businesses use to track goods ranging from apparel to medical supplies and food. GeekWire’s July 24, 2024 report covered the appointments.
Impinj’s reported financial snapshot
In the same July 2024 article, GeekWire reported Impinj revenue of $102.5 million for its “most recent quarter,” up nearly 20% year over year, and net income of $25.3 million. The article excerpt does not name the quarter, so these figures should not be assigned to a specific reporting period or treated as current results.
Who became Zendesk’s chief communications officer?
Sarah Gavin became Zendesk’s chief communications officer. GeekWire reported that she had led Google Cloud Storytelling and held executive roles at Expedia and WE Communications. Zendesk is a customer-support software company.

What is Neal Fachan’s new startup?
Neal Fachan, a Qumulo co-founder and former engineer at Isilon and Amazon, was leading Maelstrom Software. GeekWire described the startup’s product as an “open-source, clustered test runner,” placing it in developer tooling rather than customer-support software or RFID hardware.
