The conviction was reported under Indian Penal Code (IPC) Section 147 read with Section 109. Arguments on Hussain’s sentence were scheduled for November 16, 2026; as of October 11, 2026, the sentence had not been decided in the reporting and the detailed court order was awaited.
What the court decided
Additional Sessions Judge Praveen Singh convicted Hussain under IPC Section 147, which concerns punishment for rioting, read with Section 109, concerning abetment. The case involved 13 accused. PTI-syndicated reporting says Hussain was acquitted of the other charges, while the court acquitted his 12 co-accused of all charges.

The charges in the case included rioting, theft in a dwelling house, and mischief by fire or explosive substances. The available reporting does not establish the judge’s detailed reasoning: the written order was reported as awaited.
What happens next

This is separate from the Ankit Sharma case
Reports also refer to Hussain’s separate conviction in July 2026 in the case concerning the killing of Intelligence Bureau officer Ankit Sharma. Hussain and four others were convicted in that case. It is distinct from the October Dayalpur verdict described here; the cases, charges and verdicts should not be conflated.
The Times of India and India Today report that the separate Sharma case’s FIR was registered at Dayalpur police station after a complaint by Sharma’s father, Ravinder Kumar, and that the Aam Aadmi Party suspended Hussain after his name emerged in connection with that case. Those details relate to the Sharma matter, not to the procedural origin of the October verdict.

Context on the February 2020 riots
The Times of India and India Today/PTI coverage report that the February 2020 northeast Delhi riots left 53 people dead and also caused injuries and extensive property damage. The 53-death figure is reported context, not a finding attributed here to the October court order.
What is established—and what is not
- Established in current reporting: Hussain’s conviction under IPC Sections 147 read with 109, the acquittal of the 12 co-accused, and the scheduled sentencing arguments.
- Not established in the available coverage: the court’s full reasoning or the outcome of the future sentencing hearing.
The statutory provisions and the count of acquitted co-accused are reported by The Times of India and PTI-syndicated news coverage. Akashvani independently reported the conviction and scheduled sentencing hearing, but its retrieved report did not specify the sections or mention the co-accused acquittals.
