There is no single winner for every saver. As of 11 October 2026, the latest six-month Singapore T-bill had a 1.90% cutoff yield; the upcoming SBNOV26 Savings Bond (SSB) offers a reported 1.67% in its first year and a 2.45% average annual return if held for all 10 years; and a targeted six-month fixed-deposit offer quoted 2.43% p.a. for eligible CIMB Preferred customers placing S$250,000 in fresh funds. Those figures cover different terms and eligibility, so compare the rate for the period you actually expect to hold your money.

Which option pays the most for your holding period?
If you can place S$250,000 for six months
The reported 2.43% p.a. CIMB Preferred offer is the highest listed six-month rate, but only if you meet the fresh-funds and customer-eligibility conditions. It is not an all-customer rate. A quoted annual rate for a six-month deposit does not mean you receive 2.43% of your principal in six months; actual interest depends on the term and the provider’s calculation.

If you want a six-month government security
BS26120W’s 1.90% cutoff yield is the relevant recent T-bill benchmark. It is determined at a particular auction, not promised for later auctions. The preceding issue, BS26119F, had a 1.92% cutoff yield, illustrating that results can move from one issue to another.
If you may hold savings for years but want access before maturity
SBNOV26’s reported 2.45% is the average annual return over the full 10-year term, not the first-year rate. Its year-one rate is 1.67%, rising to 3.08% in year 10. It may suit someone who values the option to redeem monthly, but the 10-year average is not a like-for-like substitute for a six-month deposit or T-bill rate.

How the three products work
T-bills: auction yield, six-month maturity
BS26120W is a Singapore Government Treasury bill with a six-month term. The auction took place on 8 October 2026; the bill is issued on 13 October 2026 and matures on 13 April 2027. MAS lists an S$8.3 billion total amount offered and an S$1,000 minimum denomination. T-bills do not pay periodic coupons: they are sold at a discount, and the return is reflected in the price paid and the amount received at maturity. The 1.90% figure is the auction cutoff yield; an investor’s outcome depends on allotment and the price/yield terms. See MAS Treasury bills and the BS26120W issue page.

SSBs: stepped coupons and monthly redemption
Singapore Savings Bonds are Singapore Government Securities for individuals aged 18 or older, with terms of up to 10 years. Rates are set for each issue and step up by year; interest is paid every six months. The SBNOV26 schedule reported by DLCuration begins at 1.67% in year one, reaches 3.08% in year 10, and gives a 2.45% average annual return if held for the full decade. MAS explains that SSB rates are linked to average SGS yields for corresponding holding periods, with adjustments possible to preserve the step-up feature. Consult the MAS SSB guide and the MAS issue calendar.
MAS states that SSBs are fully backed by the Singapore Government. The minimum investment is S$500 and the maximum individual holding is S$200,000. SSBs are non-transferable and are not traded on the open market. You can redeem in any month without a penalty; principal and accrued interest are returned, typically by the second business day of the following month. SBNOV26 applications close on 27 October, with allotment on 28 October and issuance on 2 November 2026.

Fixed deposits: term-specific offers and eligibility
A fixed deposit commits money for a chosen term at a rate and under conditions set by the bank or finance company. Minimum placement, fresh-funds rules, customer tier, maximum placement and available tenure can all affect whether a headline offer applies to you. For example, the reported CIMB Preferred rate requires S$250,000 in fresh funds and an eligible new-to-bank or new-to-Preferred relationship; the other examples in the table have different terms and minimums. The roundup says rates are checked weekly, but offers can change or close, so verify the institution’s terms before applying.

- Set your likely holding period first. Compare six-month options with each other; do not rank a 10-year SSB average against a six-month rate without accounting for what happens after the shorter product matures.
- Check what the quoted rate measures. The T-bill figure is an auction cutoff yield, the SSB figures are annual coupons or a full-term average, and fixed-deposit quotes are annual rates tied to a stated placement term.
- Confirm you qualify. Review fresh-funds definitions, customer status, minimum and maximum placement, application deadline and any channel-specific conditions.
- Decide how much access you need. SSBs allow monthly redemption without penalty. A fixed deposit is committed for its term, and early access terms depend on the provider. A T-bill has a maturity date; check the specific issue and channel if you may need money sooner.
- Account for reinvestment risk. A six-month deposit or T-bill matures sooner, but the rate available for the next placement is unknown today. An SSB’s step-up schedule is fixed for that issue, though its coupons vary by holding year.
Bottom line by saver
For a saver who qualifies for the targeted S$250,000 six-month CIMB Preferred offer, the reported 2.43% p.a. is the highest listed six-month fixed-deposit rate in this comparison. For a six-month government-security option, the latest cited T-bill cutoff yield is 1.90%. For a government-backed option with monthly redemption flexibility, SBNOV26 offers that access, but its reported 1.67% first-year rate is below its 2.45% full-term average. The right choice depends on your amount, eligibility and expected holding period—not the largest percentage in isolation.
