T-Mobile Is Moving Some Longtime Customers to Pricier Plans—Here’s Who Is Affected and What to Check

Some longtime T-Mobile customers are being moved to Experience plans in 2026. Here’s how to check your account, calculate the real increase and protect valuable discounts.

T-Mobile’s 2026 legacy-plan change is already underway. Some customers on older Simple Choice, T-Mobile ONE, Magenta, Sprint-era and related plans are being migrated to new Experience plans. The reported increase is generally up to about $6 per affected phone line per month, but the real impact can be different—and potentially larger—if the change removes KickBack, alters discounts, or changes the economics of free lines and device promotions.

This is not one universal surcharge. Your account-specific migration notice and bill are more important than the name of your old plan.

What T-Mobile is changing

T-Mobile is retiring or migrating at least some customers from legacy rate plans to newly created Experience variants. T-Mobile says older plans were designed nearly 15 years ago, before its current 5G network and present-day usage patterns. The company says the replacement plans preserve existing benefits while adding newer features and a five-year price guarantee.

Independent reporting published June 29 and July 1, 2026, found that the program covered multiple target plans—not a single replacement plan. Reported destinations included Experience Signature Select, Experience Signature, Experience More, Experience Beyond and migration-specific home-internet plans. The reported effective date for many migrations was July 13, 2026, although customers should rely on the date shown in their own notice and account.

Who may be affected?

Reports identify customers on several broad categories as possible targets:

  • Simple Choice plans
  • T-Mobile ONE and ONE Plus plans
  • Magenta and Magenta MAX plans
  • Some grandfathered Sprint plans
  • Plans older than Simple Choice
  • Certain 55+, military and first-responder variants
  • Some tablet, wearable and home-internet lines

That list does not mean every customer on one of those plans will pay more or will be migrated. Two customers with the same plan name can have different line counts, discounts, tax treatment, free-line credits and device promotions. Some customers reportedly received a notice about KickBack ending without receiving a migration notice.

T-Mobile’s notice—not the plan family alone—determines whether your account is included and what happens to your bill. The Mobile Report’s migration analysis provides the most detailed independent account of the reported target plans and pricing structure.

How much could the bill increase?

The clearest reported figures are:

Change Reported recurring impact
Affected phone line Up to approximately $6 per line per month
Certain tablet or wearable lines About $3 per month
Certain home-internet lines About $6 per month
Loss of a qualifying KickBack credit Potentially $10 per line per month, separate from the plan-price change

These are reported examples and maximums, not a promise about your bill. For illustration, four affected phone lines could mean as much as $24 more per month before considering other account changes. If one line also loses a $10 KickBack credit, that line’s economic increase could exceed the advertised plan adjustment.

The household total can also be affected by:

  • Free-line and BOGO credits
  • Insider, military, first-responder or 55+ discounts
  • AutoPay treatment
  • Taxes and fees
  • Device-installment credits
  • Streaming and other paid add-ons

Early pricing reports changed during the rollout, including reports that T-Mobile lowered many migration-plan prices by about $5 per line. Do not use an old spreadsheet or a headline estimate as your final calculation.

Why KickBack matters

KickBack was a legacy T-Mobile ONE feature that could provide a $10-per-line credit when a qualifying line used little data during the billing cycle. The Mobile Report reported that KickBack was being eliminated for affected customers.

Simply insert a SIM card and get all your Wi-Fi devices connected to the internet, convenient for places where cable internet is unavailable, such as holiday cabins or remote cameras. Fully supports 4G LTE Frequency Band: B2/B3/B4/B5/B7/B8/B12/B13/B17/B25/B26/B66/B41 WCDMA: B2/B4/B5/B8 (Verizon requires TTL set to 64 or 65 based on different data plan)
  • High-Speed Connectivity: 4G LTE Cat4 with cellular download up to 150Mbps and N300 dual-band wireless speeds reaching 300Mbps for smooth streaming, lag-free online gaming, and quick file sharing

  • Simple Setup Process: Built-in standard SIM card slot with plug-and-play functionality allows immediate cellular internet access without configuration, featuring user-friendly web interface for effortless management

That does not mean every ONE customer had KickBack or that every customer loses it. But if you did receive the credit, losing it is financially different from a $6 base-rate increase. Review the last several bills and identify whether the credit actually appeared, then compare that amount with the new line-level charge.

What could change besides the monthly price?

A replacement plan can be better in one respect and worse in another. Compare the complete account, not just the advertised base rate.

Taxes and fees

T-Mobile’s migration information indicates that customers on tax-inclusive plans remain tax-inclusive and customers on tax-exclusive plans remain tax-exclusive, subject to the terms shown on the account. Confirm the treatment in the migration comparison and on the first new bill. A $5 lower service price is not necessarily cheaper if taxes and fees are newly added.

Hotspot, roaming and streaming

Reported plan descriptions generally associated Experience Signature with 60GB of hotspot data, Netflix with Ads, 15GB of high-speed data in Canada and Mexico, and 5GB of international high-speed data. Experience Beyond was reported with 250GB of hotspot data, Hulu with Ads, 30GB in Canada and Mexico, and 15GB abroad.

Those descriptions are not a substitute for your account’s offer. T-Mobile’s April 22, 2025 Experience-plan announcement describes public Experience benefits, but it does not enumerate every 2026 legacy-customer migration variant.

Discounts, free lines and device promotions

Ask whether every free-line, BOGO, Insider, military, first-responder and 55+ credit remains attached to the same line. Also verify that device-financing credits continue under the replacement plan. A free line or promotional credit can be worth more than a small difference in the plan’s headline price.

How the five-year price guarantee works

T-Mobile says customers activating or switching to an Experience plan from April 23, 2025, receive a five-year guarantee covering the monthly price of on-network talk, text and 5G data. The guarantee is not a freeze on the entire bill.

According to T-Mobile’s Price Lock FAQ, the guarantee excludes items such as:

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  • Taxes and fees
  • Per-use charges
  • Discounts
  • Third-party services
  • Some network-management matters
  • Device payments, insurance and other add-ons
  • Promotional-credit changes

Think of it as protection for defined covered service pricing, not a guarantee that the total amount withdrawn from your bank account can never change.

What about older Price Lock promises?

Eligibility depends on when the account was activated, the qualifying plan and whether the account later changed plans. T-Mobile’s FAQ distinguishes among:

  • Un-contract Promise: generally associated with accounts activated before April 28, 2022.
  • Original Price Lock: potentially applying to certain accounts activated from April 28, 2022, through January 17, 2024.
  • Last Month Price Lock: potentially applying to certain accounts activated through April 22, 2025.
  • Five-year Experience guarantee: applying to Experience plans activated or switched to from April 23, 2025, subject to its terms.

The Un-contract Promise does not necessarily mean T-Mobile can never raise a covered price. T-Mobile’s stated remedy is that an eligible customer who leaves after a covered recurring-service increase may have the final month’s recurring service charge covered, provided the customer meets the applicable conditions and follows the required process. Confirm your eligibility and remedy directly with T-Mobile.

How to check your own account

  1. Search your text messages, email and T-Life or T-Mobile app notifications for a migration notice.
  2. Sign in to your T-Mobile account and open the plan or rate-plan migration section.
  3. Review every line individually rather than accepting the account-level headline.
  4. Write down the old and new plan names, recurring service charges and effective date.
  5. Record whether taxes and fees are included.
  6. Check hotspot, streaming, international and Canada/Mexico benefits.
  7. Verify every free-line, BOGO, Insider, military, first-responder, 55+ and device credit.
  8. Look specifically for KickBack or another legacy discount that disappears.
  9. Save screenshots or download the migration details and your last bill.
  10. Compare the first post-migration bill line by line with the prior bill.

If the notice, account page and bill disagree, contact T-Mobile and ask for the exact effective date, target plan, line-level price and treatment of every discount. Preserve the chat transcript or request the answer in writing.

Can you refuse the migration?

The available reporting does not establish a universal opt-out process for the 2026 program. It also does not establish that every customer must accept the assigned plan without any alternative.

Ask T-Mobile three specific questions:

  1. Can I retain my current plan?
  2. Can I move to a different available plan instead?
  3. Does my Price Lock or Un-contract Promise provide a remedy if I do not accept the change?

Do not assume that a representative’s informal answer is the final policy. Save the transcript and ask how a proposed change would affect free lines, device credits, tax treatment and your eligibility for any legacy protection.

Should you stay, change T-Mobile plans or switch carriers?

Staying with the migrated T-Mobile plan may make sense when:

  • The increase is small after all credits are included.
  • You use the added hotspot, streaming or international benefits.
  • Your devices are financed through T-Mobile and promotions remain intact.
  • You value avoiding porting, account disruption and new activation work.
  • The five-year covered-service guarantee is valuable to you.

A different T-Mobile plan may be better when:

  • The assigned plan adds benefits you will never use.
  • A current public plan preserves your important features at a lower effective cost.
  • You can retain valuable free-line, tax-inclusive or account-specific economics.

Before accepting a voluntary plan change, get the complete post-discount total and ask whether the move is reversible. Changing plans can affect older protections and promotions.

Another carrier may be better when:

  • Your main priority is reducing service cost rather than preserving T-Mobile-specific benefits.
  • You do not need extensive international service or premium postpaid perks.
  • Your coverage needs are better served by another network.
  • You have confirmed the long-term price after promotions, taxes, fees and device payments.

Possible alternatives include Verizon, AT&T, Visible, Mint Mobile, US Mobile, Cricket, Metro by T-Mobile and T-Mobile Prepaid. Prices and promotions change frequently, so compare current offers rather than relying on a static headline.

Before canceling T-Mobile

  • Check each device’s remaining installment balance.
  • Confirm whether bill credits require continued T-Mobile service.
  • Verify that the phone is unlocked and compatible with the new carrier.
  • Calculate the post-promotion price, not only the introductory price.
  • Check activation charges, taxes, fees and international add-ons.
  • Port your number before canceling the T-Mobile account.
  • Recalculate the remaining family-plan lines if one line leaves.

A cheaper advertised plan can be more expensive after you pay off a phone or lose promotional credits.

A practical break-even calculation

Use this formula:

Real monthly change = new service charges + new taxes and fees − old service charges − old taxes and fees + lost discounts and credits − value of benefits you will actually use.

For example, compare a four-phone account’s old and new totals after free-line credits, KickBack, AutoPay and device promotions. Then assign a realistic value—not the retail value—to new streaming, hotspot or roaming benefits. If you would not otherwise buy or use a benefit, count it as little or nothing.

Do the same calculation for switching carriers, adding any device payoff, lost credits, activation fees and temporary promotional pricing.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Bottom line

T-Mobile is not raising every longtime customer’s bill by one identical amount. It is migrating some legacy customers to multiple Experience plans, with reported increases of up to about $6 per affected phone line and different amounts for some tablets, wearables and home-internet lines. The real change may be smaller, equal to the estimate or larger if KickBack or another valuable discount disappears.

Open the account-specific migration comparison, audit every line and credit, and review the first changed bill. Only then compare staying with T-Mobile, choosing another T-Mobile plan or switching carriers. The plan name and headline price are not enough to determine whether your account is getting a bad deal.
