Everbridge disclosed on May 30, 2024, that attackers accessed a limited number of files on its corporate network after obtaining information through a phishing attack against employees. The company said the files included business-related information such as some administrator and other user contact details, subscribed-service information, and “enabled access methods.”
The disclosure does not establish that Everbridge’s live emergency-notification platform was breached, that all customers were affected, or that alert messages and customer content were accessed. Customers should nevertheless verify their status, enforce multi-factor authentication (MFA), review logs, and rotate potentially exposed integration credentials.

Public reporting identified Mandiant and Stroz Friedberg as outside incident-response investigators. The available reporting does not identify the threat actor, the compromised employee accounts, the exact phishing technique, or how long the attackers had access before detection. BleepingComputer’s report contains the public timeline and the customer-notification details.
What information may have been exposed?
Everbridge said the accessed files included:
- Contact information for some administrator users.
- Contact information for a limited number of other users.
- Information about customers’ subscribed Everbridge services.
- “Enabled access methods.”
That last phrase requires caution. The public disclosure does not say whether it referred to authentication settings, integrations, API access, SSO configuration, or another type of account metadata. It should not automatically be interpreted as confirmation that passwords, API keys, tokens, or other credentials were exposed.
A source close to the investigation told BleepingComputer that customer information was included in the accessed corporate data and that affected customers were being notified. That adds weight to the possibility of customer-data exposure, but it is not the same as a publicly released forensic inventory from Everbridge.

What has not been confirmed
The available public material does not confirm exposure of:
- Payment-card information.
- Social Security numbers or government-identification numbers.
- Health or payroll data.
- Emergency-alert message contents.
- Customer contact lists, incident records, or message histories.
- All customer accounts or tenants.
There is also no published total for affected records or organizations, no confirmed public data leak, no confirmed extortion demand, and no confirmed ransomware deployment.

Was the live Everbridge platform compromised?
The public disclosure establishes unauthorized access to files on Everbridge’s corporate network—not a confirmed compromise of the production notification platform.
That distinction matters. Everbridge supports mass notification, crisis communications, and incident-management workflows. Corporate files may contain customer and administrative information without giving an intruder the ability to send alerts, change customer configurations, access live tenants, or view message histories.

The available reporting does not answer whether attackers accessed production systems, customer tenants, alert templates, contact lists, API keys, SSO settings, or connected integrations.
It also does not publicly establish whether Everbridge found unauthorized logins or configuration changes, whether data was copied or merely accessible, or whether any customer credentials and tokens were rotated.
How phishing fit into the intrusion
Everbridge’s description is consistent with a common enterprise attack path:

- Employees are targeted by a phishing campaign.
- Attackers obtain credentials or other authentication information.
- Those details are used to enter corporate systems.
- The intruders search internal files for business, user, and access-related information.
- The company investigates, contains the access, notifies relevant parties, and strengthens authentication.
However, phishing alone does not explain the complete intrusion. Everbridge did not publicly specify whether attackers stole passwords, captured session tokens, bypassed MFA, compromised an email account, used infostealer malware, moved laterally, or obtained privileged access. MFA reduces the risk of stolen-password reuse, but it does not eliminate token theft, compromised identity providers, recovery abuse, malicious insiders, or existing API credentials.
Everbridge’s response
Everbridge said it investigated the incident, engaged outside specialists, and notified law enforcement. It also advised customers to be alert for phishing that used knowledge of their Everbridge relationship or emergency-communications arrangements.
The company accelerated mandatory MFA. Everbridge told customers it would enable MFA for all accounts by June 3, 2024, and recommended that organizations using single sign-on enable SSO as soon as possible.
SSO can improve centralized policy enforcement, account deprovisioning, and access visibility. It also makes the identity provider a high-value target, so customers should pair SSO with phishing-resistant MFA where possible, conditional-access rules, device controls, and identity monitoring.

Immediate checklist
- Verify notifications: If your organization received an incident notice, contact Everbridge through a known, trusted channel rather than links in an email.
- Enforce MFA: Confirm MFA for every Everbridge account, with priority given to administrators and service owners.
- Enable SSO: If supported by your organization and Everbridge configuration, connect the service to your identity provider and apply existing access policies.
- Eliminate password reuse: Reset passwords for potentially affected accounts anywhere the same password was reused.
- Rotate access methods: Review and rotate API keys, integration credentials, service-account secrets, tokens, and other access mechanisms if they may have been stored in or referenced by exposed files.
- Review audit logs: Look for new administrators, password or MFA changes, SSO changes, API-key creation or use, unusual IP addresses or geographies, unexpected contact-list exports, and changes to alert templates, distribution groups, or integrations.
- Warn staff: Tell administrators and employees to expect convincing follow-up phishing involving the organization’s Everbridge subscription or crisis procedures.
- Preserve evidence: Retain relevant email, endpoint, identity-provider, and Everbridge logs in case an investigation is required.
Questions for Everbridge if you were directly notified
- Which account, tenant, business unit, or files were involved?
- What was the confirmed access date range?
- Which precise data categories were involved?
- Were production systems or customer tenants accessed?
- Were credentials, tokens, API keys, or SSO configuration exposed?
- Was data exfiltrated, or was it only accessible?
- Are indicators of compromise available?
- Which credentials or integrations must be rotated?
- Does the organization need to notify employees, customers, regulators, insurers, or other parties?
If you did not receive a notice
Not receiving a notification is neither proof that your organization was unaffected nor evidence that it was affected. Do not assume compromise solely because your organization uses Everbridge. Confirm your status through a trusted Everbridge contact and independently review account, identity, endpoint, and integration logs.

Why the incident matters to organizations and their finances
A corporate-network breach can create costs even when there is no confirmed outage or public release of data. Potential consequences include forensic investigation, legal advice, credential rotation, customer or regulator notifications, employee support, insurance coordination, and remediation of connected systems.
For an emergency-communications customer, the risk is also operational. If administrative metadata or access methods were misused, possible consequences could include unauthorized alert creation or modification, spoofed internal notifications, exposure of emergency contacts or escalation paths, or abuse of integrations with identity, IT-service, physical-security, or public-warning systems.
These are risk scenarios, not confirmed outcomes of the 2024 Everbridge incident. Organizations should assess them against their own configuration, permissions, connected systems, and recovery procedures rather than treating them as evidence that the live Everbridge service was compromised.
What remains unknown
- The number of affected organizations and individuals.
- The number of affected records.
- Whether accessed files were exfiltrated in full or in part.
- Whether production systems or customer tenants were accessed.
- Whether alert content, contact lists, or message histories were exposed.
- Whether any credentials, tokens, or access methods were usable.
- The identity of the threat actor.
- The final forensic findings and any later public report.
- The full scope of regulatory notifications or litigation.
As of August 16, 2026, the available source material does not provide a later public forensic report, final affected-record count, named threat actor, ransomware confirmation, or detailed technical indicators of compromise. The incident should therefore be described as a historical breach disclosure with an incompletely documented public outcome—not as a newly discovered 2026 attack.

An unexpected Everbridge-branded notification is not automatically evidence that the 2024 breach affected you. Individual organizations generally manage the recipient records used for their notifications. Everbridge’s support guidance on unfamiliar Everbridge notifications explains why someone might receive a legitimate message from an organization they do not recognize.
Even so, do not click links or provide credentials in an unexpected message. Verify the sender and the event through a known organizational channel, then report suspicious activity to your security team.
