The $71.5 million figure in the T.I. and Tiny toy-maker lawsuit was the OMG Girlz’ original 2024 jury award—not the amount left in the latest judgment. After a 2026 retrial on punitive damages, the amended judgment kept $17,872,253 in compensatory damages, plus post-judgment interest. Enforcement is stayed until 30 days after an appellate mandate; the mandate status has not been confirmed.
What the lawsuit was about
MGA Entertainment filed suit in 2020 seeking a declaration that its L.O.L. Surprise! O.M.G. dolls did not violate intellectual-property rights asserted by the OMG Girlz. The group and related entities, T.I., and Tiny brought counterclaims. The dispute concerned particular dolls and claims involving trade dress and the use of name, likeness, or identity—not a finding that every doll in the product line infringed.
The case went through three trials. The first ended in a mistrial in January 2023, and a second jury found for MGA in May 2023. A third trial produced the September 2024 verdict for the OMG Girlz on specified claims, as recounted in the district court’s amended judgment. The Associated Press also summarized the earlier trial history.
Which dolls were covered by the 2024 findings?
The amended judgment identifies dolls involved in both the counterclaimants’ claims and MGA’s declaratory-judgment claims. Its findings are limited to the products and theories listed below.

Dolls related to the OMG Girlz’ counterclaims
The jury found trade-dress infringement and misappropriation of name, likeness, or identity with respect to Chillax, Roller Chick, Metal Chick, Bhad Gurl, Prism, Miss Divine, and Runway Diva.
Dolls on MGA’s declaratory-judgment claims
The judgment lists Downtown B.B., Punk Grrrl, Virtuelle, Honeylicious, Miss Independent, City Babe, Shadow, and Miss Glam as infringing trade dress and/or misappropriating identity. The findings were narrower for two dolls: Shadow was found to infringe trade dress only, while Miss Glam was found to misappropriate identity only.

How the $71 million award changed
The $71,489,012 total combined compensatory and punitive damages in the original award. The punitive portion was later retried; the jury returned a verdict for MGA on punitive damages on July 1, 2026. The July 22, 2026 amended final judgment left the compensatory award in place.
| Amount or rate | What it represents | Source and timing |
|---|---|---|
| $71,489,012 | Original total: $17,872,253 compensatory damages plus $53,616,759 punitive damages. | U.S. District Court for the Central District of California, original final judgment in 2025. |
| $53,616,759 | Punitive damages in the original judgment; this amount was not retained in the amended judgment after the 2026 retrial verdict for MGA on punitive damages. | U.S. District Court for the Central District of California, original judgment and July 22, 2026 amended final judgment. |
| $17,872,253 | Compensatory damages left in the amended judgment. | U.S. District Court for the Central District of California, July 22, 2026 amended final judgment. |
| 3.99% | Post-judgment interest, compounded annually from July 22, 2026. | U.S. District Court for the Central District of California, July 22, 2026 amended final judgment. |
| $71.5 million | Associated Press’ rounded description of the original jury award, not the later operative damages total. | Associated Press, 2024 coverage. |
The earlier April 2025 judgment set interest at 3.972% from April 15, 2025. That was the rate in that earlier judgment; the amended judgment sets a 3.99% rate from July 22, 2026.

What the amended judgment means now
As of October 4, 2026, the district court’s amended judgment provides for $17,872,253 in compensatory damages, with interest at the rate and from the date stated above. The judgment defers attorneys’ fees and costs until after the appellate mandate and stays enforcement until 30 days after that mandate. A judgment amount is not, by itself, confirmation that money has been paid or that the award has been distributed.
The appellate proceedings should not be conflated. The Ninth Circuit denied MGA’s petition for permission to appeal under 28 U.S.C. § 1292(b) in appeal 25-7523 on January 26, 2026. That was separate from merits appeal 25-3448. The available listing for 25-3448 was last retrieved July 14, 2025, so it does not establish whether that appeal has since concluded or whether a mandate has issued.
