Symmetry Systems announced a $17.7 million funding round on August 9, 2023, to scale its data-security platform. ForgePoint Capital and Prefix Capital participated again; W11 Capital Management and TSG (The Syndicate Group) joined as new investors. The announcement did not disclose the company’s valuation.
What Symmetry Systems announced
The company described the financing as an inside round, with returning investment from ForgePoint Capital and Prefix Capital. W11 Capital Management and TSG (The Syndicate Group) were new participants; Symmetry characterized TSG as a channel-focused strategic investor. The amount and participants are reported in Symmetry Systems’ announcement.
Symmetry did not state a valuation, revenue, customer count, or detailed allocation of the proceeds in that announcement. The $17.7 million figure is the amount the company announced for this round, not a valuation or measure of the company’s market size.
What the platform is designed to do
Symmetry identifies DataGuard as its data-centric security solution. The company says it helps organizations determine what sensitive data they have, where it is stored, who can access it, and how it is being used. The aim is to give security teams visibility into data exposure, excessive permissions, and unusual data flows, rather than treating regulated information as either locked away or left unmanaged in cloud and data-lake environments.

In practical terms, data security posture management (DSPM) focuses on finding and classifying data stores, then understanding the access and activity around sensitive information so an organization can assess and address risk. Symmetry’s descriptions of DataGuard’s coverage and capabilities are vendor claims, not independent comparative testing.
What the funding was intended to support
Symmetry said the financing would help scale its AI-powered data-security platform. Its August 2023 announcement also described an LLM-based natural-language interface as something the company was building, intended to help non-specialist business users understand data and action risks. That was a development plan stated at the time, not evidence that the interface shipped.
Rank #2
The company’s current website presents a broader Data+AI Security Platform, with vendor-described functions that include data discovery and classification, detection and response, access governance, AI-agent governance, remediation, and multiple deployment models. Product claims and offerings can change; the website’s presentation should not be read as independent validation of efficacy.
How the round fits Symmetry’s earlier financing
The $17.7 million announcement was not Symmetry’s first disclosed institutional financing. On June 23, 2021, the company announced a $15 million Series A led by Prefix Capital and ForgePoint Capital, with participation from Accenture Ventures. Accenture separately described its investment and Symmetry’s participation in Project Spotlight.
The 2021 Series A and the 2023 inside round are separate financing events, announced on different dates and with different stated amounts and participants. The earlier announcement is available from Symmetry Systems, and Accenture’s account is at Accenture Newsroom.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. What the announcement does—and does not—tell readers
- It establishes: Symmetry announced a $17.7 million round on August 9, 2023, and named the participating investors.
- It does not establish: the company’s valuation, revenue, customer count, exact use of proceeds, or how its product performs relative to competitors.
- It is not a consumer investment or product recommendation: the announcement concerns funding for enterprise security software.
For organizations evaluating DSPM platforms, useful points of comparison include the data stores and cloud environments covered, classification and discovery methods, identity and permissions context, remediation and response tools, deployment options, and integration with existing security operations. The available company descriptions do not support a neutral ranking of Symmetry against competing products.
