What does Swiggy’s $606 million IPO headline mean?
It describes the value of Swiggy shares allotted to institutional anchor investors ahead of the public issue. The official basis-of-allotment notice records 130,385,211 shares allocated for ₹50,850,232,290 (approximately ₹5,085.02 crore) at ₹390 per share. The Economic Times used the rounded $606 million figure in its contemporaneous headline; the allotment filing states the amount in rupees. The NSE-hosted allotment notice is the primary record for the allocation.

Those shares went to 99 anchor investors through 151 applications. The allocation represented 60% of the qualified institutional buyer (QIB) portion, according to the notice.
How did the anchor allocation differ from the whole IPO?
The final prospectus set the total offer at ₹113,274.27 million (about ₹11,327.43 crore), also priced at ₹390 per share. It combined new shares issued by Swiggy with shares sold by existing shareholders:

The prospectus describes the book-built offer and its allocation framework. At least 75% of the net offer was available to QIBs; up to 60% of the QIB portion could be allocated to anchor investors, with one-third reserved for domestic mutual funds subject to the prospectus conditions. The actual anchor allocation was 60% of the QIB portion. See Swiggy’s final prospectus for the offer terms.
Who received shares in the anchor book?
The official notice establishes the aggregate allocation and investor count. ETtech’s November 5, 2024 report named BlackRock, Fidelity, Nomura, BNP Paribas and Allianz Global among participating investors. It also named SBI Mutual Fund, ICICI Prudential Mutual Fund, Kotak Mutual Fund, Axis Mutual Fund and HDFC Life, and reported that more than half of the anchor book went to domestic investors. Those names and the domestic-share description are attributed to ETtech, rather than inferred from the aggregate allotment figures.

When did the anchor and public bidding take place?
- November 5, 2024: Anchor bidding opened and closed.
- November 6–8, 2024: The public bid window was open.
- November 11, 2024: The basis of allotment was finalized with NSE.
- November 13, 2024: The allotment notice said trading was to commence.
This was a completed 2024 offer, not an open subscription opportunity.

The allotment notice recorded overall subscription of 3.60 times before rejections. QIBs excluding anchor investors subscribed 6.02 times their available allocation. These figures describe demand relative to the shares available in those categories; they do not establish whether the IPO was fairly valued or how the shares would perform after listing.

The notice explicitly cautioned: “THE LEVEL OF SUBSCRIPTION SHOULD NOT BE TAKEN TO BE INDICATIVE OF EITHER THE MARKET PRICE OF THE EQUITY SHARES ON LISTING OR THE BUSINESS PROSPECTS OF SWIGGY LIMITED.”
