The Supreme Court of India’s 2026–2027 Law Clerk-cum-Research Associate application window is closed. Applications opened on 20 January 2026 and the last date was 7 February 2026—not today. The recruitment notice scheduled written tests for 7 March 2026, and the court’s listings later displayed exam-stage notices.
What was the last date to apply?
The last date for online registration was 7 February 2026. The official advertisement, dated 20 January 2026, said: “The starting date for online registration of application is 20.01.2026 and last date thereof is 07.02.2026.” Applications opened on 20 January.
The Supreme Court’s recruitment and judicial-clerkship listings subsequently showed 2026 exam-stage materials, so the expired application link is not a route to apply late. Check the court’s official recruitment listings and judicial-clerkship page for official updates; a future recruitment cycle would have its own dates and conditions.
Was this recruitment for 90 posts?
The notice sought a panel of approximately 90 candidates for short-term contractual engagements for the 2026–2027 assignment term. That figure described the intended panel, not 90 permanent posts or a guarantee that every candidate on the panel would be hired.

Who was eligible for the 2026–2027 cycle?
Applicants had to be 20–32 years old as of 7 February 2026. They also needed a Bachelor’s degree in Law, including an integrated law degree, from an institution established by law in India and recognized by the Bar Council of India for enrolment as an Advocate before taking up the assignment.
Some students could apply before completing their law degree: eligible applicants included fifth-year students in a five-year integrated course and third-year students in a three-year law course after graduation in another stream. They had to provide proof of acquiring the required qualification before joining.

The notice also called for research and analytical skills, writing ability, and computer knowledge, including the ability to retrieve legal information using tools such as e-SCR, Manupatra, SCC Online, LexisNexis and Westlaw. These are the published criteria for this closed cycle; they should not be assumed to apply unchanged to a later notice.
How did selection and testing work?
The stated selection process had three phases:
- Multiple-choice test: Questions assessed understanding and application of law, as well as comprehension.
- Subjective written test: The paper assessed writing and analytical ability. The notice scheduled the written tests for 7 March 2026, with Part I online and Part II answers written on paper.
- Interview: Candidates progressing through the written stages were to be assessed at interview.
The advertisement specified a penalty of 0.25 marks for each incorrect multiple-choice answer. That test format and marking rule belong to the 2026–2027 notice; do not rely on them for a future cycle without checking its advertisement.
What were the fee and engagement terms?
For this cycle, the application and test fee was ₹750, plus applicable bank charges. Applications were online only, through a link on the Supreme Court website. Both details apply to the closed application window.
The role was full-time and contractual. The recruitment notice described the engagement as “a full time assignment, purely contractual in nature.” Initial consolidated remuneration was ₹1,00,000 per month. The engagement did not create a right to regular appointment or continuation.
Rank #4
The amended engagement scheme provides for a possible extension, subject to approval. If extended after the first 12 months, the monthly remuneration is ₹1,10,000. This is a conditional extension provision, not a guaranteed second-year term.

What should applicants do now?
- Do not try to submit a late application or treat the 2026–2027 cycle as open.
- Use the Supreme Court’s official recruitment and judicial-clerkship listings for notices about this cycle or any subsequent recruitment.
- For a later cycle, verify its own deadline, eligibility cutoff, fee, test format and engagement terms in the official advertisement rather than carrying forward details from 2026.
