“Domestic” and “international” are geographic box-office categories; neither should be confused with an opening-weekend figure. The film was directed and written by James Gunn. DC says its nationwide release was July 11, 2025, with the international rollout beginning July 9. DC’s official film page.
What “passes all other 2025 superhero movies” can—and cannot—mean
The phrase needs a measurement and a comparison set. A film’s opening weekend is a short, domestic snapshot; a worldwide gross is a reported total across markets and the theatrical run. They answer different questions and cannot establish the same ranking.

Opening weekend: a supported year-leading claim
Box Office Pro’s 2026 retrospective says Superman had the largest domestic opening among 2025 superhero movies, with a rounded $125 million opening. It names Captain America: Brave New World, Thunderbolts, and The Fantastic Four: First Steps among the films it opened ahead of. This is a domestic opening-weekend comparison, not a final worldwide ranking. Box Office Pro’s 2025 retrospective.
Worldwide totals: ahead of two named comparators
The Numbers lists Captain America: Brave New World at $415,101,577 worldwide and Thunderbolts at $382,436,917. Both listed totals are below Superman’s $618,723,803. The Numbers: Captain America: Brave New World; The Numbers: Thunderbolts.
The available sources do not establish one complete, same-source final worldwide table covering every superhero release in 2025. So the evidence supports the biggest-superhero-domestic-opening claim and a higher listed worldwide gross than the two named films, but not an unqualified claim that Superman beat every 2025 superhero movie in final worldwide gross.

- Opening weekend refers to a specific early time window; Box Office Pro’s comparison is domestic and its $125 million figure is rounded.
- Worldwide gross combines reported domestic and international receipts over a film’s run; The Numbers’ precise figures are listed database totals.
- Year cohort means superhero films released in 2025, not all superhero films or all films released in 2025.
DC describes Superman as DC Studios’ first feature film to reach the big screen. The Numbers lists a July 11, 2025 wide domestic release, a PG-13 rating, a 129-minute running time, and an August 15, 2025 video release by Warner Home Video. These details identify the release and film, but they do not change what the box-office comparisons measure. The Numbers’ film listing.
