How much did Supercell’s revenue and profit fall in 2023?
In its February 14, 2024 results commentary, Supercell reported €1.7 billion in revenue for 2023, a 4.2% year-over-year decrease, and €580 million in EBITDA, down 8.2%. The company’s figures are rounded. Yle independently reported the €580 million EBITDA figure and 8.2% decline.
The headline figure of $1.82 billion comes from School World News, which reported revenue as both $1.82 billion and €1.698 billion. It is a dollar rendering of the euro-denominated total, not a separate figure reported by Supercell. What does “profits dip 8%” mean?
The 8.2% decline refers to EBITDA: earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization. It is a profitability measure, but it is not the same as net income or cash flow. The headline’s word “profits” is therefore broad; EBITDA is the precise measure Supercell reported alongside the decline.
For financial comparisons, keep the measure attached to the figure: Supercell’s reported 2023 EBITDA was €580 million, down 8.2% year over year. Do not read that percentage as a change in net profit.

Why did Supercell’s results decline?
Supercell said its games declined in the first half of 2023 while the mobile-games market overall continued to decline. The company also said each quarter of 2023 was better than the preceding quarter for its live games, pointing to Brawl Stars’ player growth as an example. These are Supercell’s account and characterization of the year; the company-wide figures do not establish how much any individual game contributed to the decline.
CEO Ilkka Paananen described financial results as a means to support the company’s work, not an end in themselves: “We see them as something that enables us to do more of what we’re passionate about.” The sentence appeared in Supercell’s February 14, 2024 post.

Why do later figures for 2023 differ?
In a 2025 post about its 2024 results, Supercell retrospectively listed 2023 revenue before deferral as €1.6 billion and EBITDA before deferral as €492 million. The company said it had changed its presentation to show results “without deferral.” Those later comparative figures use a stated reporting basis different from the amounts in the February 2024 results commentary; they should not be treated as direct replacements without noting that basis.

What else did Supercell report?
Supercell said it paid €110 million in corporate taxes in Finland for the 2023 financial year. That tax figure is separate from revenue and EBITDA and should not be interpreted as a measure of either.
