Small businesses can join the Super Bowl conversation without buying a TV ad. Build a modest campaign around your existing customers, a clear offer, and what your staff can reliably deliver. The seven ideas below are practical options—not proven sales drivers—and the best fit depends on your audience, budget, time, and capacity.

Seven ways to market around the Super Bowl without a TV ad

1. Run a short-window special

Offer a specific product, service, or discount for a defined period. State the dates, total price, availability, eligibility, and any limits so customers can decide without guessing. Avoid suggesting the promotion is officially connected to the league or event unless you have authorization.

2. Offer a preorder or pickup bundle

A restaurant, bakery, grocery, or local maker could bundle products customers already buy for a gathering. Set an order cutoff that gives your team enough preparation time, and cap orders at a level you can fulfill. The bundle is a convenient offer to test, not a guaranteed way to increase sales.

3. Email existing customers

Send a concise, relevant message with the offer, dates, and a clear way to order or respond. The Federal Trade Commission says businesses that use email need to know the CAN-SPAM Act; consult its CAN-SPAM Act compliance guide before sending.

#1 Best Overall
Undated Business Planner for Entrepreneurs, 220 Pg, A5 Beige Linen
  • KNOW WHAT IS WORKING AND WHAT IS NOT Each quarter opens with a structured review across revenue, time, clients, marketing, and content, so you understand what actually happened in your business before you decide what comes next.
  • QUARTERLY PLANNING SYSTEM Break your annual vision into four focused 90-day plans using the 12-week-year structure that coaches and entrepreneurs rely on, giving you a strategic layer that sits above your daily calendar and holds the direction your scheduling tools cannot.
  • TRACK REVENUE-GENERATING ACTIVITIES EVERY MONTH Every month gets a dedicated spread to set priorities, track revenue and the activities driving it, and review results against plan, keeping the business moving between quarterly reviews.
  • A5 LINEN HARDCOVER, FULLY UNDATED A5 size (5.8" x 8.3") in linen with gold foil stamping, reinforced binding, and thick lay-flat pages built to hold a full year of planning. Organized by quarter and fully undated, so you start in any month without wasting a page. For business owners who invest in tools that match what they're building.
  • A THOUGHTFUL GIFT FOR ENTREPRENEURS, COACHES AND CREATORS A quarterly planning system makes a purposeful gift for someone building a business alongside a full life, useful long after a birthday or a business milestone has passed because they will reach for it at the start of every quarter and every month.

4. Publish a short series of original social posts

Use your own products, staff, location, or generic football-and-gathering imagery. The San José Downtown Association’s Super Bowl LX examples offer generic wording and hashtags, but its materials are local event guidance, not a complete legal opinion for every location or use. Review its sample social media posts and promotion checklist for that event’s examples.

5. Partner with a nearby complementary business

A food business might coordinate with a local delivery or party service, with each business sharing the offer with its own customers. Agree on the terms and responsibilities in advance, and get permission before using a partner’s name or marks.

6. Host a small in-store or community activity

Choose an activity your team and venue can manage well, such as a simple gathering or customer participation prompt. If commercial promotion uses event names, logos, team marks, or branded materials, check authorization and applicable local rules first. For example, USA Football’s commercial and brand usage policy says commercial entities should not use its intellectual property without express consent; that is USA Football’s policy, not an NFL policy.

7. Follow up after the event

Give participants a reason to return, such as a separately stated offer or a useful next step related to your business. Track a straightforward measure—such as offer redemptions or repeat visits—and treat it as your own campaign result, not a general prediction about what other businesses will achieve.

How to choose an idea you can deliver

Compare the options against the realities of your business before committing. No cited source establishes which tactic performs best, so prioritize an idea you can fulfill accurately and well.

  • Audience fit: Does the idea suit the customers you already serve?
  • Cash cost and staff time: Can you afford the promotion and the work it creates?
  • Operational capacity: Can you handle the expected orders, messages, or visitors without disrupting normal service?
  • Measurability: Can you count responses, orders, redemptions, or return visits?
  • Value beyond game day: Will the customer relationship or offer remain useful after the event?

Keep the offer accurate and the event branding cautious

The Federal Trade Commission’s Advertising and Marketing Basics states: “Under the law, claims in advertisements must be truthful, cannot be deceptive or unfair, and must be evidence-based.” Apply that standard to prices, dates, inventory, eligibility, and limitations; describe only what your business can substantiate.

For Super Bowl LX promotions, the San José Downtown Association recommends general phrases such as “the Big Game” or “Football Championship,” generic sports imagery, and generic hashtags, while advising against promotional use of NFL, event, and team marks. These are local materials for a particular event, not a definitive rule for every place or circumstance. More generally, FIFA’s explanation of brand protection describes ambush marketing as attempts to associate a brand with an event through advertising or promotions, including indirect associations through images or text; it is context about event branding, not a rule for NFL events.
