Sunderland’s individual player salaries are not officially published. For 2025–26, SalaryLeaks estimates that Granit Xhaka is the club’s highest-paid player on about £110,000 a week—an estimate, not a confirmed contract figure. The club’s filed accounts disclose company-wide wages and salaries, but they do not identify individual players or isolate the first-team wage bill.
Who is Sunderland’s highest-paid player?
SalaryLeaks names Granit Xhaka as Sunderland’s highest-paid player for the 2025–26 season, estimating his pay at £110,000 per week, or £5.7 million annually. These are the publisher’s estimates; Sunderland has not publicly confirmed Xhaka’s individual salary in the sources available.
SalaryLeaks estimates total Sunderland first-team salaries at £63.6 million for 2025–26. It also lists the highest-paid player in three positions: Brian Brobbey at £3.9 million annually, Nordi Mukiele at £4.7 million, and Robin Roefs at £1.3 million. Those figures are estimates from the same publisher, not individual amounts reported in the club’s accounts. SalaryLeaks’ Sunderland estimates
What Sunderland’s accounts actually report
Sunderland Limited’s financial statements report £46.816 million in wages and salaries for the year ended 31 July 2025. This is an aggregate company-level accounting figure: it does not say how much any player earns, nor does it establish the cost of the first-team squad alone. The accounts separately report £6.849 million in social security costs, another company-level expense rather than an individual salary. Sunderland Limited filing history and accounts

The £46.816 million accounting figure and SalaryLeaks’ £63.6 million estimate should not be treated as competing measures of the same thing. They cover different reporting periods and scopes: one is a company accounts line for the year to 31 July 2025; the other is a publisher’s estimate of first-team salaries for the 2025–26 season.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. Why Sunderland wage estimates differ
Salary websites do not necessarily measure the same thing. Capology describes its figures as estimates of gross fixed salaries and excludes bonuses. Its 2026–27 result estimates Sunderland’s gross fixed salaries at £63.076 million, or £1.213 million per week, and lists Xhaka at £110,000 per week. SalaryLeaks’ 2026–27 result also names Xhaka as its top earner and gives a £5.7 million annual base estimate. These are separate estimates for a different season, not confirmation of the 2025–26 figures. Capology Sunderland salary estimates SalaryLeaks Sunderland estimates

Squad changes, loan arrangements, bonuses, season coverage and each publisher’s estimation method can all affect a wage table. Capology explicitly excludes bonuses from its gross fixed salary estimates; the methodology behind every other publisher’s figures is not established in the sources cited here. To compare tables responsibly, keep the season and publisher attached to each figure, check whether bonuses or loan players are included, and do not combine figures from different lists into a single ranking.
