The airline cited hurricane recovery for Asheville’s omission; it did not give a route-specific reason for the other four. These were seasonal schedule changes, not proof that all five routes were permanently discontinued.
Which Sun Country routes did not return for summer 2025?
- Asheville, North Carolina
- Billings, Montana
- Cleveland, Ohio
- Colorado Springs, Colorado
- Omaha, Nebraska
The November 1, 2024 report by Bring Me The News identified these five seasonal MSP routes as not returning for summer 2025. It did not specify flight dates or frequencies for the affected routes.
Why were the routes dropped?
Sun Country attributed Asheville’s omission to hurricane recovery. The November report did not identify individual reasons for Billings, Cleveland, Colorado Springs, or Omaha, so it would be inaccurate to say that hurricane recovery or weak demand explained all five decisions.
A Sun Country representative told Bring Me The News: “We continuously evaluate performance of routes and customer demand and adjust our network accordingly.” The statement describes the airline’s general approach; it does not establish a route-specific reason for each change.

Were the routes permanently discontinued?
Not necessarily. Sun Country described them as seasonal routes and said routes could return in the future. Asheville, in particular, was scheduled to return in fall 2025: the airline’s February 25, 2025 schedule announcement included the route in its fall plans. That later return shows why a summer omission should not be treated as a permanent shutdown. The announcement did not establish the later or current status of the other four routes.
In its fall 2025 schedule announcement, Senior Vice President and Chief Revenue Officer Grant Whitney said the airline was adding fall flights for sports fans despite lower seasonal leisure demand than around winter, spring break, or summer.

How the five omissions fit into Sun Country’s summer schedule
When Sun Country extended bookings through September 2, 2025, it said its summer schedule comprised 116 routes serving 102 airports. Those were the airline’s own announced network totals, not independent counts. A route is a city-pair service; an airport or destination count measures network reach, so the figures are not interchangeable.
The airline’s October 29, 2024 schedule announcement also described frequency increases in some markets and Saturday-only summer MSP flights to Miami and Sarasota. Its separate corporate update said more than 100 nonstop destinations were available from MSP Terminal 2 when the schedule opened through September 2025; that destination figure is a different measure from the 116 routes and 102 airports in the schedule announcement.
