A TechTimes report published November 8, 2024, said Stic-branded vehicles appeared in Times Square following a launch at NYC Ad Week. That report describes a specific presence; it does not independently establish the campaign’s reach, results, or legal status.
What the Times Square report says—and what it does not prove
The TechTimes article reported that Stic connected brands with drivers through a mobile platform and that participating drivers displayed campaign stickers while going about their normal routines. It also described Stic-branded vehicles in Times Square after a launch at NYC Ad Week. The specific event and campaign presence are attributed to that November 8, 2024 report; Stic’s official pages reviewed for this article do not independently verify them.
That distinction matters to advertisers and readers evaluating a “takeover.” A reported appearance in a high-profile location is not, by itself, evidence of how many people saw the vehicles, whether they noticed the ads, or whether the campaign changed customer behavior.
How Stic’s vehicle-advertising model works
Advertisers plan the campaign
Stic’s advertiser page describes a managed service in which brands choose markets, neighborhoods, routes, event zones, and vehicle surfaces, including editable geofenced zones. It lists three placement formats: Stic Reach for modular placements, Stic Elite for cross-door placement, and Stic Duo for a two-vehicle combination. These are company-described offerings, not independent evaluations of their performance. See Stic’s advertiser information.

Drivers apply and display campaign materials
Stic says drivers create a profile, apply for campaigns available in their area, and review each campaign’s brand, payout, and requirements. After acceptance and installation, drivers continue their ordinary routes. Stic describes its stickers as non-permanent and says it logs normal routes without requiring detours or extra trips. These are Stic’s published descriptions of its service and may change. Its home page provides the company’s overview.
Stic’s current driver description says eligible cars can be around ten years old or newer, have four doors and original paint, and have no wraps or exterior damage. Actual campaign availability and requirements vary, so these criteria should be checked against the current terms rather than treated as universal eligibility guarantees.

Stic describes tracking and reporting tools
Stic advertises Stic Vision reporting with daily and lifetime impressions, audience age and gender mix, campaign views, live GPS tracking, and campaign monitoring. The advertiser page is evidence that Stic offers or describes these features; it is not independent validation of a campaign’s impression counts, audience estimates, or results.
On the advertiser page checked October 8, 2026, Stic listed a network of 28,638+ vehicles and 3,480 active vehicles in New York. These are company-published fleet figures, not audited counts, and they may change. They describe claimed network availability, not the number of vehicles deployed in Times Square or the audience reached by the 2024 campaign.

Mobile ads compared with fixed Times Square media
Vehicle media and fixed outdoor advertising offer different kinds of presence. The available sources do not establish a common measurement standard that makes their audience figures directly comparable.
| Consideration | Branded vehicles | Fixed Times Square inventory |
|---|---|---|
| Mobility and geography | Stic describes routing campaigns through selected markets, neighborhoods, routes, and event zones. Actual routes depend on participating drivers’ ordinary travel. | Displays and other placements occupy fixed locations; the Times Square Alliance lists digital displays, street-pole banners, BigBelly panels, movie-screen advertising, and seasonal event sponsorships. |
| Creative surface and visibility | Stic lists modular, cross-door, and two-vehicle formats. Visibility depends on placement, vehicle location, and viewing conditions. | Available formats vary by inventory, from digital displays and banners to sponsorships. The Alliance’s page describes its offerings. |
| Targeting and concentration | Stic says advertisers can select routes, neighborhoods, event zones, and editable geofenced zones. The sources do not establish how consistently vehicles appear in any selected area. | Advertisers select among particular locations and inventory; the supplied Alliance information does not provide comparable route-level targeting. |
| Measurement claims | Stic describes GPS tracking and impression, audience, and campaign-view reporting. The reviewed sources do not independently validate those measures for a specific campaign. | The Times Square Alliance says it has more than 200 street-pole banners and that they are photographed more than 100 million times annually. Those are Alliance-published claims, not independent audience measurements. |
| Permitting and operations | Vehicle advertising is subject to NYC rules, and the applicable requirements may depend on vehicle type and campaign details. | Fixed media has its own inventory and operating arrangements; the cited Alliance page lists offerings but does not establish a like-for-like regulatory comparison. |
The Alliance’s inventory and banner figures were checked October 8, 2026. For fixed-media options, consult the Times Square Alliance advertising page; its promotional figures should be understood as the Alliance’s claims.

New York City Administrative Code §19-175.8 states: “No person shall operate, stand, or park a vehicle on any street or roadway for the purpose of commercial advertising.” The New York City Council legislative record reproduces the provision and describes exceptions, including business-related notices on vehicles used for normal delivery or business purposes when the vehicle is not used merely or mainly for commercial advertising, subject to limits. It also allows advertising on TLC-licensed vehicles under TLC rules. The Council record states a civil penalty of not less than $500. See the New York City Council legislative record for Int. No. 75.

A separate rule applies to covered for-hire vehicles. Under 35 RCNY §59B-29(e), a covered vehicle may not display advertising inside or outside unless the Commission has authorized it and issued the vehicle owner a permit. The rule also addresses rooftop advertising and requires separate authorization and provider licensing for interior advertising. This TLC framework should not be assumed to apply to every privately owned passenger car. See the TLC rule.
The statutory and regulatory texts do not establish whether a particular Stic campaign falls within an exception, whether a specific vehicle had a required permit, or whether the cars in the reported Times Square presence were private or for-hire vehicles. The TechTimes report and the company’s general service descriptions are not enough to determine that campaign’s legal status.

How to assess a vehicle-media campaign before budgeting
- Ask what is being counted. Request the definition of an impression or view, how it is calculated, and whether the figure is modeled or directly observed.
- Separate deployment from exposure. A vehicle’s GPS location can document where it traveled; that does not by itself prove that anyone saw or noticed its advertising.
- Confirm campaign-specific delivery. Ask for the actual vehicle count, covered dates and areas, route or placement records, and the reporting period—not just a company-wide network figure.
- Clarify audience estimates. If age or gender mix is reported, ask how those attributes are estimated and what uncertainty applies.
- Check permissions and vehicle types. Determine which rules apply to the specific vehicles and campaign, and obtain appropriate legal review rather than inferring compliance from a general service description.
- Compare on a consistent basis. Evaluate mobile and fixed placements using clearly defined measures, comparable campaign periods, and costs supplied directly by the sellers. The sources here do not establish equivalent measurement standards or prices.
