What does a Steam seasonal sale mean for game prices?
A seasonal event is broad, but it does not mean every game is discounted. Valve says all released games can participate. Steamworks also says a discount of 20% or more triggers an email notification to users who have wishlisted a game. Which games appear in Steam’s special sale sections depends on factors including tags, popularity, and recommendations. See Valve’s Steamworks guidance on upcoming events.
Use wishlists to catch future discounts
Steam Support says wishlists can notify users when a game goes on sale. That notification is useful for future offers, but it does not preserve or confirm a past sale price. Steam Support’s wishlist FAQ also explains that sale discounts cannot be applied to purchases made before or after the sale period.
